Hi GNMQ,

I know it has been asked before in the past but please could we now have all the OP's posts highlighted in colour rather just the first one? It would make such a difference to the pleasure of using the site.

If the answer is no would you mind explaining why it is not possible?

I'm on a Samsung tablet and they are highlighted in green.

Can someone please tell me what OP means as that is not in the Acronym list.

These sites are a business. As such they need revenue from advertising.
How many members click on the adverts on the right hand side, not many I would think.
Now, if you look at the shopping on MN it is full of links put up by members. I click most of them because I’m nosey and want to see members recommendations 😄
These clicks mean money.
Tech updates/ changes cost money. This site doesn’t warrant that expenditure.
Mumsnet membership 8 million.
Gransnet membership 5,000.
As a business owner would you spend this money 🤷‍♀️

Well I ve just gone over to the mobile site on my iPad to see and NO the original posters subsequent posts are NOT in any colour at all just white
So no posts on either mobile or desktop have colour past the very first original post and then mine own are in pink
BigBopper OP means original post or original poster

Another one here with no highlights on mobile site or desktop other than original op in green and my posts in pink.

mokryna Wed 28-Aug-24 15:01:16

It has been done on Mumsnet, so why not here. Moreover, there is a new app called ‘thanks’ , which allows you to give your appreciation of a message which only the author can see.

Nothing highlighted from what I see on my phone or tablet thingy.

Leanetta Wed 28-Aug-24 13:32:47

Yay! Scrolled down and changed to mobile site - that works - thank you!

I've just discovered something. My tablet's memory is full and it keeps logging me out of my favourite web sites. When I looked at a thread on GN in unlogged-in mode - tada! .... The OP posts further down the thread were green!

The great disadvantage was that all the threads I had hidden were visible in "Active"!

The forum heading "Site Stuff" is misleading as it sounds like a direct line to the web admin. Dream on!

Oh. I got that wrong. I assumed it was.

Does GN ever answer on any of the threads on the Site Stuff Topic?

I dont read all of the threads. But on the ones I have read, I dont think I have seen any response.
I have been here since the beginning of ths year.

No, they don't read the threads under "Site stuff". The only way to get their attention is by reporting a post. The forum heading "Site Stuff" is misleading as it sounds like a direct line to the web admin. Dream on!

I really don't know what they do all day. I suspect they spend most of their time working on the various sections of the site with cooking, beauty and grandparenting topics, which nobody reads.

I am sure I am not the only one for whom Gransnet is solely about the forums and the conversations. The site Administrators seem to consider the conversations an annoying sideline. They should have people monitoring the conversations continually. (A) it would provide them with topics that might actually interest their members and attract them to reading the articles that they spend so much time on and (b) they might find out what is wrong with the site.

Ironically, there have sporadically been questions thrown out by GNHQ, asking us what we would like to have changed or implemented, but nothing has ever come if it.

The regular requests include

- edit function
- "Like" button
- OP posts coloured green like the initial OP post
- @ function to work (at least they have removed the line at the bottom of the message box which says how this is supposed to work)
- Active conversation list to display the most recent activity in the proper order
- the daily newsletter to include the current topics and not those being discussed three days ago (I have unsubscribed, it is useless)
- return of the book of the month

(I do not necessarily personally endorse all of these, but some reaction or interim report from GNHQ would be nice now and again)

The site seems to generally have deteriorated and there is little outside involvement nowadays. What happened to the competitions? (Not that that interested me because it's only applicable to UK residents)

When was the last time we had an online we chat where we could post questions for an expert to answer?

nanna8 Wed 30-Aug-23 09:54:59

The fact that nothing changes is probably because they trust us so much that they don’t bother to check what we write. Take it as a compliment! At the moment there are no ‘controversial’ posters on here, thank goodness.

Do you not have the option to scroll to the very bottom of this page where there is view mobile site Then reverse that to view desktop site no logging in and out.

I’m already on the mobile site. As with Marydoll and others, it makes no difference which site I’m on, or what device I’m using.

Marydoll Wed 30-Aug-23 09:04:56

Whether I use the mobile site or desktop, the Op's posts are not highlighted. I used a an android phone, tablet and PC!

Patsy70 Wed 30-Aug-23 08:59:53

That would make sense, and something quite simple to execute I would imagine. I would also like the facility to ‘like’ a comment or ‘thumbs up’, as I know has been suggested before. How difficult would that be GNHQ?

Grammaretto Wed 30-Aug-23 08:36:45

I haven't logged on since I joined the site and now I wouldn't know how.
I also saw the OP posts highlighted back then but not recently.
I would appreciate having that back

Fairislecable Wed 30-Aug-23 08:31:02

Thank you Rachel75 I have just changed to the mobile site and it switched easily.

I am not keen on the layout of the mobile site on my iPad but for some threads it will be helpful to switch over.

Just how long has GNHQ been promising to look into this? We’ve been asking for this feature for many years. And yet we’ve never even been given an explanation for the fact that Mumsnet has it and we (well, many of us) haven’t.

It’s not the case that it works for everyone on the mobile site, though it obviously does for some. I’m on a 3 year old iPhone and it doesn’t work for me. Perhaps it would if I logged out, as someone suggested, but what a pain it would be to have to log back in every time I wanted to comment.

I spend more time on MN where this has been done for years.
Might be back here a bit more now as it's become very ageist on there.

Hasn’t it just? Absolutely vile comments. MNHQ wouldn’t tolerate any other kind of ‘ism’ so it’s about time they got to grips with it.
