I just wanted to let everyone know that during this last week, I have had several links to discussions on this sire appearing on my Facebook page. Anyone ( who has access to my FB page ) can click on the links and see the whole discussion.

So far, they haven’t been anything ‘contentious’ at all but I’m not sure we are being aware that this is happening. Some of the discussions on this page are quite emotive and I don’t think I would like these made public.

Anyone else aware of this happening?

I haven't noticed it but I will certainly keep an eye on my Facebook page. With people being arrested for saying something contentious these days, you can't be too careful.

Gransnet has a Facebook page so if you are following that then you will likely see what is posted there on your Facebook feed. You would have to click on the link to access this Gransnet site.

This is a public site as is MN. What is the difference between the millions of views on FB and the 2 sites mentioned?
Answer: nothing.

When you join GN, by accepting the terms and conditions, you agree that the company many reproduce elsewhere any content that you post.

The GN FB page only has 16,000 followers which is comparatively small by commercial standards. Many of the followers are commercial entities whose businesses are catering for elderly needs: care homes, accessible holidays, mobility aids etc.

I suspect their interest is more to do with marketing opportunites. If they become aware of chats say, about chosing a care home, accessible holidays and mobility aids it might encourage them to place some advertising on this site.

Gransnet is not a private, members only group. Literally anyone can access and read any thread on here - no registration required. Important to keep this in mind and make sure you don't input any identifying or personal information you're not prepared to share with the entire internet!

I'm not quite understanding the problem.
Is it me?

Is anyone NOT aware that NOTHING posted on GN is private ? The entire world can read it online, free, without having a GN account.

Anyone can register an account on GN. Then click on any poster-name ,open that persons posting history on GN, and scroll through it logging all personal information ; location, property, age, mentions of birthday, marriage, deaths, anniversary dates, children, GC, pet names, property details, financial, medical and career history, legal stuff, online activities; school and university attended, degrees, professional qualifications. Arrangements to meet up IRL with total strangers (who post on GN).

People don't even have to register an account with gransnet which might give a measure of traceability. Only need to Google the user name followed by the word Gransnet and all previous posts will come up!

It’s a bit confronting really. I wouldn’t want to follow GN on Facebook and now I most certainly will not even look at it. Another thing is why do we get these messages on GN from unknown persons - presumably they must have registered to be able to send them. I don’t like it at all.
