Is it just me ( using quote function)

Is it just me or do other posters get lost sometimes when a quote has multiple posters names at the beginning and then a previous post is quoted. I scroll through to get to the actual new post but by the time I do I don’t know what comment by whom and when is being addressed.

It can be confusing, but I like to reply directly to posters and love the “quote” facility.

I agree - I sometimes now just copy and paste the bit of the original post I want to respond. The quote bit is now sometimes really long and may have 3/4 posters names.

I think the quote function avoids confusion, as readers will know exactly which post one is commenting on.

I know what you mean and that’s what frequently happens but there are some that I’ve found confusing - I think it’s when there are several posters names at the top of the quote. When a thread moves quickly it’s particularly helpful to have the quote facility so I’m not at all criticising it, more a comment on my getting confused sometimes ow who is being responded to.

Maybe it depends what you use.

Me, I am on an old-fashioned and more or less outdated, computer. With keyboard.
I have no problems at all.

Cant see anything being altered now, as GN will likely get sold. This year?

As a newbie I avoid those multi layered posts, I think they usually appear at the end of a thread and I can’t make head nor tail of it.
I just copy and paste as someone else has said. But then my post gets ignored and they continue with the confusing multi layered responses. Am thinking I should just not reply at this point and leave well alone.

I find nested quotes annoying especially when someone uses the function to add some silly one-line quip at the end of a pageful of the things.

Sadly though, it’s what happens, particularly when a thread had branched off in several directions. It ends up as one big fat muddle, a result of the refusal by Justine Roberts to spend any money on improving the site. All investment goes into Mumsnet.

Instead of the linear presentation, it would be easy to branch-thread the conversations so people could reply to a specific post without having to copy-paste relevant paragraphs, pages after others have been talking about something else entirely.

I know exactly what you mean Fallingstar. It tends to happen more frequently towards the end of a dying thread when nobody is reading or listening anymore, even if they ever were very much. It's very, very noticeable that many people don't bother to read what has gone before. One can try to bring a derailed thread back on track but it rarely works.

It’s a moribund site which I can see being closed:

a. because it’s massively loss making and
b. for the same reason Saga was closed.

I think it can be useful for short answered post but when you get a long post within a long post I totally avoid as it takes half the page up
So no I m not over keen on the whole
