The best beauty tip came not from my mother but from the problem pages of a teen mag (no I can't remember which one!) Someone had written bewailing the fact that she was plagued with spots. The reply included the comforting statement that if you get a lot of spots you're less likely to get dry skin & hence wrinkles later. I've no idea if this was true, but I was the only girl in my class who didn't get spots, so I decided I must have dry skin & should moisturise. Believe me most teenagers in those days couldn't bother less about skin care, a beauty routine was all about slapping on a thick layer of max factor pancake to cover up the blemishes - but I started moisturising when I was 14 & have kept it up ever since. Approaching 70, the wrinkles are definitely taking over - but until a few years ago nurses and interviewers regularly looked at me and said, I think I've got the wrong file, you can't really be....? So it has worked!
