We've been asked by L'Oreal to find out from gransnetters about beauty tips that have been passed between the generations.

So, what beauty tips did you get from your mother? Maybe she had some great skincare tips that you've followed for years? Or perhaps you have some beauty tips that you've shared with your daughter? Or maybe some tips that you definitely won't be handing down!

Whatever your top tips are - L'Oreal would love to hear about them!

Everyone who adds a comment to this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will receive a L'Oreal goodie bag worth £200.

Please note your anonymous comments may be included on L'Oreal's social media channels, and possibly elsewhere, so please only post if you're comfortable with this.

My mum swore by this as her mother passed it down to her, face dunk into ice water it works wonders on a tired face. of course you have to be able to handle the cold, it tightens skin and pores. My mum would do this and look amazing, i use this now when the stresses of life get to me, i will pass this on to my daughter as well!

My granny who passed away at the ago of 90 last month was so elegant. She always wore perfume, make up and nail polish. Her hair was always styled so beautifully. She was and still is my hero. The best bit of advice she gave me was wear sun protection everyday on my face and treat my neck and chest just as well as my face. Good luck everyone.

Mum told me to always take off any make up before you go to sleep and look after your skin!

I was always taught to always were sunscreen on my face all year round whether winter or summer and even if raining/cloudy. Its done more to stave off wrinkles than any cream on the market.

Cleanse, tone, moisturise - morning and night. Her skin has always looked lovely so I still follow that routine smile

My mother always told me to moisturize every day.

My mum drilled into me to always remove all make-up before going to bed, no matter how drunks or tired after a night/day out, and also to drink loads of water each and every day as it would hydrate you from the inside out. I drink a lot of water and find I don't have problems with dry skin or other problems with my skin. The other thing was to moisturise, especially if you've been out in the sun, and to use aftersun after being out in the sun as it works well to replace lost moisture and help to repair any damage, it's always worked for me.

My mum told me to always use factor 50 on my face and neck as sun damage is very ageing and to rub a silk scarf down my hair for extra shine.

My mum always told me to wear sunscreen on my face, even in winter

HeyerFan Mon 23-Feb-15 00:18:40

My mother's advice was to wear suncream in the summer and moisturise my elbows!!!!!

My advice is to never go to bed without removing makeup, to moisturise (the face) twice daily, protect the lips with petroleum jelly and to use hand cream on a regular basis.

My mother always said to have a good beauty regiment that was stuck to consistently as otherwise it would be just a waste of time and she was right.

Two top tips I've passed to my daughter. Firstly, no matter how late you get in, take off every scrap of makeup and moisturise before you go to bed. Secondly, stay out of the sun!
