Take Five, have launched their new ‘Too Smart To Be Scammed?’ test, as part of Take Five to Stop Fraud week and they would love you to take the test and share your result and your thoughts.

Here’s what Take Five have to say: “Take Five to Stop Fraud is a national campaign that offers advice to help everyone protect themselves from preventable financial fraud. It educates individuals to help them spot scams and urges people to stop and consider whether the situation is genuine – to Take Five and think if what you’re being told really makes sense. Remember, ‘My money? My info? I don’t think so.”

It is becoming increasingly difficult to spot a scam as criminals are more sophisticated than ever; however there are still steps you can take to protect yourself and learn how to spot a scam before you have given away any personal details. Take the test, find out if you’re too smart to be scammed and let us know what you think. How did you score? Did you learn a new way to protect yourself from scams and frauds? What did you find the hardest about spotting a scam? Were there any bits you were surprised you got wrong or right?

Everyone who takes the quiz and posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one GNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

I was surprised to get them all correct but it highlights how vigilant you need to be and always be suspicious of the messages.

7 out of 8 for me too but I would never call any numbers purporting to be from the bank or respond to texts. I'd use the numbers I have for my bank to check anything- suspicious or not! Like others here, I'm a great one for spotting poor grammar. Some phishing emails I've received would be hilarious if they weren't so evil.

I got 8 out of8 which surprised and frankly delighted me, as I was nearly scammed once by a fake windows message. My OH came in at just the right time to stop me. I was very embarrassed, but at least I didn't lose any money.

7/8 for me too. Again over cautious on the one I got wrong. I think we are learning to be very cautious on line after reading about so many frauds.

I use a VPN when the Wi-fi is not secure and never store credit card details online.

After having cards scammed recently while abroad, I now keep cards in the little foil envelopes that prevents scamming. I also check every statement carefully and query anything not recognised.

I was shocked that I only got 6/8 right!! Thought I was really savvy . An elderly very intelligent friend was rung up by her " supposed" bank and was conned into transferring £4000.00 by Post Office bond. Luckily the Post Office picked this up and stopped the scam. She is still very distressed . Thanks for the quiz! I shall be more aware now.

7/8 for me. It was a text message which looked ok, but was fraudulent. A lesson learnt! I don't get text messages from my bank - will check whether they have my mobile number.

As someone who always banks online I'm going to have to be more careful in the future. I only scored 5. What do they say about pride coming before a fall? So far I haven't experienced any fraudulent activity on my account but this will certainly make me more aware.

I got 8/8. Sometimes there are questions of the form: which of these two is the scam? and my answer is I don't trust either. Better to phone your bank using the genuine number and find out the message is from them than risk it.

Likewise I got one wrong by being over suspicious. I would always check first whether a message was genuine by calling a number I knew to be correct or even pop into the bank in person myself. I haven't registered to receive text alerts and never click through from emails either.

I scored 6/8 by being over cautious (no bad thing). If I had actually received the messages & recognised the transactions mentioned I might have trusted them more but, either way, I believe it better to call/log in independantly rather than instructed in an email
