Take Five, have launched their new ‘Too Smart To Be Scammed?’ test, as part of Take Five to Stop Fraud week and they would love you to take the test and share your result and your thoughts.

Here’s what Take Five have to say: “Take Five to Stop Fraud is a national campaign that offers advice to help everyone protect themselves from preventable financial fraud. It educates individuals to help them spot scams and urges people to stop and consider whether the situation is genuine – to Take Five and think if what you’re being told really makes sense. Remember, ‘My money? My info? I don’t think so.”

It is becoming increasingly difficult to spot a scam as criminals are more sophisticated than ever; however there are still steps you can take to protect yourself and learn how to spot a scam before you have given away any personal details. Take the test, find out if you’re too smart to be scammed and let us know what you think. How did you score? Did you learn a new way to protect yourself from scams and frauds? What did you find the hardest about spotting a scam? Were there any bits you were surprised you got wrong or right?

Everyone who takes the quiz and posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one GNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

I got 8 out of 8. Sadly My mum was defrauded years ago before on line banking !! I trust one one and and I am suspicious of anything a little out of the ordinary. I actually assume things are scams when they may be Innocent. Although i knew the 2 about the bank calling or texting I would still probably visit the bank rather than call.

8 out of 8 - yay!!

MSHGW Sat 03-Feb-18 19:58:23

I got "You scored 8 out of 8!".

sc00ter Sat 03-Feb-18 19:35:33

oh well only got 5 out of 8....As an old auntie used to say "If in doubt, get out".

hutchina1986 Sat 03-Feb-18 19:34:25

I got 7 out of 8 because I didn't trust a genuine one. Better to be safe than sorry. I recently had a call from someone claiming to be my "broadband provider" and I was going to be disconnected but I needed to go through security, I didn't trust it at all if they were my provider they would know their own name at least.

I got 7 out of 8. It taught me how to be more observant

CHIiNTZ Sat 03-Feb-18 18:32:42

I got 7/8 - as mentioned in previous posts, this is because I would ring the bank direct to make sure.

Narnian Sat 03-Feb-18 18:21:57

I scored 7 out of 8

barbarajane22 Sat 03-Feb-18 17:51:14

8/8 I have never been scammed and I would like to think I’m quite smart when it comes to scams.

LeeR1985 Sat 03-Feb-18 16:51:01

I got 7/8. Think I was being overly cautious with the one I got wrong but so far i've never been hit by any scams so I think i'm good smile

Lisapaige24 Sat 03-Feb-18 16:30:40

7/8 For me better to be over cautious than not cautious enough

compy99 Sat 03-Feb-18 16:25:16

I got 6/8 I don't trust any message in general!

Maggiemaybe Sat 03-Feb-18 15:55:32

7/8. Hmm. It's not that I think I'm always right (honest!), but I'm not the only one that didn't want to reply to the text in Q6. I don't think I'd ever answer a text purporting to be from my bank directly - I'd ring them instead. And there was something odd about the amount they claimed to have blocked - it came up as £.10, with a full stop. Looked amateurish to me!

Hedleync Sat 03-Feb-18 15:39:27

7/8. Not bad. I think I'm pretty clued up on fraud and scams.
There is a lot of it going around!

hellywellyt Sat 03-Feb-18 15:32:46

I scored 5/8 I wouldn't get scammed but wouldn't realize the real messages

BlueNile57 Sat 03-Feb-18 15:26:13

Little worried taking this test as I am a retired bank official and would have been mortified if I got any wrong. Fortunately I'm pleased to say I got 8/8.

jtunnard Sat 03-Feb-18 14:49:09

8 out of 8. Seemed fairly obvious and I have received most of the genuine ones.

wildchild Sat 03-Feb-18 14:31:34

Yes, same as most others here, I got 7/8 from being overcautious - which I don't think is a bad thing at all!

alsproject Sat 03-Feb-18 14:28:55

I got 7/8. I think I'm fairly cautious

JoGibbons Sat 03-Feb-18 14:27:46

6 out of 8 ?

JSRSYMONDS Sat 03-Feb-18 14:19:28

I got 8smileSome were tricky though!

travelsafar Sat 03-Feb-18 13:46:24

i only scored 5 out of 8 which is a bit worrying. So glad i took the test i will be on my guard from now on. Thank you Gransnet for this opportunity to test myself.

drewett93 Sat 03-Feb-18 13:43:02

5 out of 8, not as savvy as I thought I was!

Galen Sat 03-Feb-18 13:37:39

7/8 I misread the question, didn’t realise the it told you to click on a link, which incidentally I would never do.

Daphne01 Sat 03-Feb-18 13:31:20

I scored 7/8 because I was over cautious on number 6. I think I'm pretty good at spotting phishing emails and fake texts. I worry more about the elderly being targeted
