On my ideal cruise, I’d want lots of stops
To interesting places; at sea for short hops,
Then on land exploring magical sights,
I’d work off my intake of foody delights.
And as to the place, most venues would fit
On our beautiful planet. Let’s see all of it!
But if I must choose, if you will pin me down,
I’d like to be warm, I’d like to turn brown.
So the Med would suit me: the Greek Islands beckon,
Full of classical history. What do you reckon?
Temples and urns, goats, an olive tree,
Think of it now – I'm all at sea:
I see Mykonos on the horizon: we’ll be there in record time,
And I’m sitting in a deck chair, slowly sipping a gin and lime.
Next we’re going to Naxos: Zeus’s childhood home,
Here I pick up some pretty shells. Here, there’s time to beachcomb.
Santorini comes later, a vision in blue and white
Where a rhyolitic eruption put the Aegean to flight.
I’d like to call in at Athens to clock the Coliseum,
No doubt the site will cause me to burst into a Te Deum
There are so many places, and there is so little time
But I’ll have to leave it here because this daydream’s run out of rhyme.
I really like to go to Finland/Iceland to see whales in the Fjords and the Northern Lights. Staying in an igloo would also be fantastic, going back to nature is something I've always wanted to do
