What do you think about the Gransnet site?

We want to improve our users experience of using Gransnet and would love to know what you think about the site, including how it looks and functions, and if there are any aspects of the site that you really like, would change, or get rid of?

Do you have any ideas for how we could make the site look nicer or easier to use? Do you find the site easy to navigate around? Do you prefer using Gransnet on desktop, mobile, or tablet? Are there any new features or functions you’d like us to add to make your experience of the site better?

We can't wait to hear your thoughts and ideas.

Thanks

The problem I see with an edit button is that posts will be changed and following conversations will no longer make sense.
I’m not sure about the like button either which could turn the forums into a bit of a battlefield. “ I like yours” and yours and yours but not yours etc. Which could get silly. I can’t see whats wrong with just posting the words if you particularly like or support a previous comment .

An edit button would achieve being able to correct mistakes-I know we have a preview button, but who wastes time with that? I know I don't.

I love 'aged, toothlesscrones.net' shinyredcar I think it should be adopted immediately

I really don't get what an 'edit' button would achieve. There is the 'preview message' button right next to the 'post message' button. Is it that you are all too quick to use keyboard short cuts?

A 'tick' button might show original posters a level of support without the need for responders to post a message themselves, but wouldn't the forums lose a lot of the character of the individual messages?

I do look at the rest of the site and the various forum threads.

I have no problem with Gransnet as a name, either. We already have not-grans, and grandpas, taking part. What else would you call it? By the time it has become 'older people's net' or 'senior views' net, or 'aged, toothless crones' net, I can't see that we have gained much! I wouldn't click on it, for sure!

Another one here who wishes, in hope, for an edit button.

Is this site trying to be a clone of 'social media'? ,that to my mind is mainly used by youngsters, Grans too keeping up with family goings on.

What was the original thought behind the inception of this site, except making money for the owners?.

I add my farthings worth now and then, but it is noticeable how posters seem to drop off, not a good sign in MHO.

We are not a bunch of oldies reading the Peoples Friend [ apologies to those who are] with holes in our stockings, but a sprightly lot with brains which do work.
To ask for our opinions now demeans GCHQ who should have taken on board so much sooner our comments.

Hi everyone, just to let you know we're making a note of all these suggestions and the ones you've made on previous threads. We really appreciate the input. thlsmile

Same ole same ole Calling HQ what are our chances of any of these much mulled over changes Come on now between zero and zilch
Of course I ll happily eat my hat if anything comes of this unless it’s a little change HQ have had up their sleeve like the font that everyone hated but got anyway
Cynical nah not I

Edit function - on other forums that I use it says 'this post has been edited'.
Facility to view my previous posts.
Option to delete 'I'm on' threads when they have been inactive for some time or I've lost interest.

On our local English-speaking forum in Switzerland, on the right-hand side at the bottom, there are three buttons :
Quote.....Groan.....Thanks
A website is only as good as its contributors of course and sometimes I feel the questions are a tad "samey" and even a little superficial, but by and large, it is a pleasure to belong.

I only use the forums. I agree with someone upthread who commented on the fashion items as being unsuitable for a lot of gnetters. However, there will no doubt be some who find them interesting.

The options being requested by many can all be easily programmed into forums and is not beyond the competence of basic programming. I think maybe it is perhaps a reluctance to do so that is delaying change(s.) I am unsure why we are being asked for opinions again unless of course GN is looking at a new, innovative and bespoke CMS system.

sodapop Mon 29-Oct-18 09:03:07

I like that idea too MissA must admit I have been thinking twice about posting certain comments in case they appear elsewhere.
I agree with BlueBelle & mcem we have been here before with no change. Is it just lip service to keep the punters happy ?

MissAdventure Sun 28-Oct-18 22:59:09

I would like one forum which is private, so that the contents aren't free to be used elsewhere.

Chicklette Sun 28-Oct-18 13:14:46

I am unable to login via the daily emails so can’t take part in the discussions, and on the website I can rarely find the discussion I want. This is really annoying as I used to be able to join in otherwise I do like the daily emails.

mcem Sun 28-Oct-18 11:12:52

This is the 3rd day of this thread which has attracted 60+ comments.
As yet, no input from GNHQ.
Many of the posts point out that we are going over old ground and that many previous requests and comments have been summarily dismissed. So direct question!
Are we wasting our time (again) ?

CassieJ Sun 28-Oct-18 10:17:01

A like button. I don't like links to facebook or twitter. Due to this, I rarely post anything as I don't want it going onto social media sites.

Blencathra Sun 28-Oct-18 06:17:44

I am here now because I saw a discussion elsewhere and decided to come across and contribute. Does NannyGla know that she asked the people on Twitter for suggestions?

Blencathra Sun 28-Oct-18 06:14:42

I don't like the links with Facebook or Twitter. I think that discussions should be on Gransnet only - fair enough that other parts of the site get links. I bet that most people don't realise that they are posting their thoughts on other social media sites.

Blencathra Sun 28-Oct-18 06:10:53

I would like my discussions to stay on the I'm On heading longer. They have always gone by the next time I visit and I can't see the rest of the discussion- having forgotten what I did contribute to.

Blencathra Sun 28-Oct-18 06:06:27

I agree with Elegran I come on the forum once every few weeks and have never looked at anything else.

NanKate Sat 27-Oct-18 21:10:19

A bold key so that we don’t have to go to the faff of putting a star before and after a name.

lemongrove Sat 27-Oct-18 19:50:42

A quote facility, other sites have them.
In essence, this means when answering a post you click on it and it appears in a quote bubble, so everyone knows what and who you are replying to, saves so much time!

kittylester Sat 27-Oct-18 17:46:35

Mine is an android, Kate! I have it bookmarked on the laptop too!

mcem Sat 27-Oct-18 17:35:54

Was emmagransnet around when we had the last 'discussion'?
If not, then I suggest reading that long and ultimately pointless thread.
If yes, then why are we repeating the same requests and suggestions only to have them ignored because GNHQ knows best?

Melanieeastanglia Sat 27-Oct-18 17:31:44

I also wonder if the 30 or 90 day thread option would be a good idea. I believe this means that your posts don't end up on the internet for all time but perhaps I am wrong in this.

I never write things that would embarrass me in the future but I think other people have done so or may do so at some point.

NanKate Sat 27-Oct-18 14:25:37

Thanks Nina and Kitty. I realise now that it relates to your Iphone. Don’t have GN on mine which is just as well as I spend far too much time on GN as it is.
