We want to improve our users experience of using Gransnet and would love to know what you think about the site, including how it looks and functions, and if there are any aspects of the site that you really like, would change, or get rid of?

Do you have any ideas for how we could make the site look nicer or easier to use? Do you find the site easy to navigate around? Do you prefer using Gransnet on desktop, mobile, or tablet? Are there any new features or functions you’d like us to add to make your experience of the site better?

We can't wait to hear your thoughts and ideas.

Thanks

Thanks nina, it was Kate. I couldn't remember how I did it. sunshine

Whoever asked how to 'pin to start'

Open active page and at the very top of the page where the page address is on my phone there are 3 dots in right hand corner.
Click for a drop down menue and select 'add to home page'

I agree, an edit button would be vauable

I have friends who are not Grans and I find I am often telling them about things on here, but I think the name “ gransnet” puts them off. Sorry

NanaMacGeek, you have just said what I have been thinking all along, re the edit button. Why can’t you just go back and write a new, short amendment? I nearly always select Preview message, before Posting, but it doesn’t always mean that I have Posted exactly what I wanted to say.
But, there is the facility to amend your text before pressing Post.
I agree with having a separate place for the many Games threads.

Rubbish I should think Melanie by their lack of response. ?

Melanieeastanglia Fri 26-Oct-18 22:41:28

What does Gransnet think of our suggestions so far please?

Alima Fri 26-Oct-18 20:46:13

Snap Pamela, I also hit acronyms instead of active. Ok, so I’ve got fat fingers but could you separate the headings on the screen. Similar wants of a like button and edit facility. Also wonder why our opinion is being asked, that has happened before and nothing happens. Why, is it just a “tick- box exercise?

PamelaJ1 Fri 26-Oct-18 16:54:07

I’m always pressing acronyms instead of active. It would also be nice to have an active button at the bottom of threads so I don’t have to scroll to the top again.
I wonder if we could number the posts to make it easier to refer to them. We, of course, would be responsible for quoting the number of the post we are mentioning.

BlueBelle Fri 26-Oct-18 16:29:36

I thought an empathy button was a like button isn’t it ?

Atqui Fri 26-Oct-18 16:24:32

I agree with putting games somewhere separate.

Maggiemaybe Fri 26-Oct-18 16:08:56

So yes, perhaps a pop up to remind us might be useful.

Maggiemaybe Fri 26-Oct-18 16:07:59

An edit button could cause problems though if a post changed significantly after you'd replied to it. Even in a very small window of opportunity that could happen, and once did to me when I commented on a GNHQ post that was rewritten. My post then didn't make any sense!

I just wish I could remember to check posts before submitting them.

Pittcity Fri 26-Oct-18 14:44:26

What about a pop up reminding you to check your post before it goes live? It's usually autocorrect causing spelling mistakes that people want to edit.

NanaMacGeek Fri 26-Oct-18 13:59:28

If posters only have a 5 minute window to correct/edit their posts, perhaps they'd be better off spending that 5 minutes re-reading their post in ‘Preview message' before pressing 'Post message'.

I guess I wouldn't get a 'Like' from BluBelle!

NanaMacGeek Fri 26-Oct-18 13:45:59

I didn't mention an empathy button. If that were to be brought in, we'd probably see threads with little content and lots of empathy!

BlueBelle Fri 26-Oct-18 13:39:18

It’s nothing to do with pleasing an audience NanaMac but about showing agreement, a nodding head if you like, and an edit feature can be as little as a five minute slot which is not a problem on any other site I ve ever been on, this is the only one that refuses it As for leaving if we had an empathy button that’s a bit childish isn’t it ? throwing your toys out of the pram
Anyway no need to worry as I ve been on here long enough to know that Monica is totally right this is just a tick box thread that will give no changes All totally pointless

NanaMacGeek Fri 26-Oct-18 13:15:08

I'm out of step with most of the above, if there was a 'like' button, I don't think I'd bother with GN. I only post when I think I have something to contribute not because I feel the need to please an audience. I might just as well post on Twitter and Instagram and feel miserable when my posts are not 'liked'.

As to an 'Edit', button, the idea of being able to go back and change your post after posting could cause all sorts of confusion. I suppose that if editing changes were shown alongside the original text, that would appease some but somehow, further posts would have to reference the new 'changed' text or the original.

My positive suggestion for GN would be similar to book characters on Kindle, the X-ray function, where you select the name of a poster and you can see all their postings chronologically in a thread. So often, I see a reference to another poster but spend ages looking to see what they posted previously (that would include being able to see the original poster's updates too).

However, such a function should ever only apply to a single thread. I'm grateful that GN don't allow us to search all postings by individuals (at least, I don't think they do - I've never tried), their privacy would be severely compromised.

kittylester Fri 26-Oct-18 13:09:26

I can't remember how I did it Kate but I've always had it like that on my smart phone.

Maybe nina can remember.

Karanlouise Fri 26-Oct-18 12:38:15

I agree about and an empathy button and the ability to edit after posting. I access the site from my Android tablet and it's normally open all the time on the active forums. I like the daily emails as they give me a taste of what's happening. Even though I don't comment that often the site helps me feel in touch with people. smile

Caro6699 Fri 26-Oct-18 12:38:10

I like the idea of the empathy and edit buttons.
I don’t read the Forum every day so by the time I get to them mostly everything that can be said, advised is all ready on there. Empathy button would be nice to add when you feel there is nothing you could add to the conversation but want add support.

NanKate Fri 26-Oct-18 11:14:51

What does pinned mean, how do I do it and do I need it ? Thanks.

M0nica Fri 26-Oct-18 11:03:23

Its called consultation. It doesn't mean that they are listening. It is just so that they can tick a little box and say virtuously 'We consulted our members'.

At least that is what it means where I live, where Thames Water is planning a reservoir bigger than Kielder Water and every new housing development is preceded by a 'consultation' with local people.

henetha Fri 26-Oct-18 10:42:35

Please don't change it too much or make it too 'clever, as I might then not be able to understand it!
I agree about having an edit button though.

kittylester Fri 26-Oct-18 08:28:45

I agree with Elegran and nina. I also have the 'active' page pinned. I might look at competitions but rarely.
