What do you think about the Gransnet site?

We want to improve our users experience of using Gransnet and would love to know what you think about the site, including how it looks and functions, and if there are any aspects of the site that you really like, would change, or get rid of?

Do you have any ideas for how we could make the site look nicer or easier to use? Do you find the site easy to navigate around? Do you prefer using Gransnet on desktop, mobile, or tablet? Are there any new features or functions you’d like us to add to make your experience of the site better?

We can't wait to hear your thoughts and ideas.

Thanks

GNHQ

Perhaps have a “well said “ button as opposed to likes and dislikes etc .

As this thread was begun in October 2018, just under 8 months ago, it seems the ideas and the participants are, once again, being ignored.

There was one, brief, almost condescending comment by GN at the end of October. And then - nada, kahore, nowt, لا شيئ, rien, কিছু না, ничего.

I seems GN bought a whole software package specifically made for fora and clearly, this platform, with all its imperfections, is now outdated and in many ways unfit for purpose.

So if changing things infringes the copyright of the software (which I know can often be the case and prevent improvements) or to change things would be technically difficult and expensive, why on earth don't you say so?

As Mums, Grandmas, Teachers, we have always known that the best and most respectful way of treating children, grand-children, students and friends, is to explain - not simply ignore as if you are dealing with people who don't matter.

We do and we're your bread and butter. (gluten and cholesterol free) grin

So why 8 months procrastination and NO results?

I'd like it to be easier to find a thread which seems to have 'disappeared' - it's there somewhere (has been on within 24 hours) but can't be found again without difficulty.

Just come back to this thread, and realised I had posted in Oct 2018!
But, I would really like a save button. If I want to look back to a previous page, to check on a name etc, the text that I had written, has gone, maddening.

I have no understanding how a like button encourages bullying or herd mentality it’s just a very easy way of saying ‘I agree’ if you have nothing extra to add to the conversation On fb the like button is just literally a thumbs up and does no harm whatsoever, however comments can be very bullying and hurtful
As for an edit button I cannot see why anyone would be against that especially if it was a five or even two minute duration no time for much answers but when your brain remembers something important just as you press the send button it’s maddening
BUT this is all totally pointless as it’s over six months since we were asked the question and not even a curtesy answer of thanks but no we won’t be doing anything you asked for

rosecarmel Mon 29-Apr-19 04:39:24

And no to the edit feature too ..

rosecarmel Mon 29-Apr-19 04:37:25

Consider the dynamics of the sites with Like buttons - I prefer the level playing playing field - The like button invites group think, leader and followers, bullying when people disagree or present a different view .. Blech .. Not to say that stuff doesn't happen without the Like button feature .. But with it, it's 100 times worse .. !!!

I would like there to be a proper app. Mumsnet has one so why don't we? Also agree about an edit button and maybe a function to delete a post after posting in case you change your mind.

Gonegirl Fri 19-Apr-19 18:28:32

That's ok toscalily grin I just felt a bit daft when I realised I as answering questions no one was going to bother to listen to.

toscalily Fri 19-Apr-19 15:44:22

Gonegirl sorry you did not realise, I chugged it back in again blush. To be honest I would like an edit button & wouldn't a response from GNHQ be appropriate because otherwise what is the point of asking for thoughts & ideas?

Gonegirl Fri 19-Apr-19 13:11:46

OMG!!! This is an ancient thread!!! WTF is it coming up again? hmm The train has left the station.

Gonegirl Fri 19-Apr-19 13:10:38

I like to use my desktop the most. Followed by ipad.

I would not like an edit button. Could well make it confusing.

I think a thumbs up emoji would be good, just to show we agree with the previous post.

The colours and layout are fine.

toscalily Fri 19-Apr-19 11:19:43

An edit button, 5 minutes would be enough. Has been requested so many times, every other site I have contributed to has had one.

I notice that GNHQ has not responded to this thread since 30 October 2018.

no notice* ?

Faye Fri 01-Mar-19 03:45:20

You took notice last time Gransnet moderators. I have never liked the dull grey look, it was better before. You knew best of course, when we asked you to change it back. ?

We don’t like the fussy print. Could you make it plainer. We know you know best, but whoever chose it has no taste. ?

Please highlight the Original Posters posts. I don’t always want to read every single post but want to know what the OP has posted. ?

Another thing at the bottom of the page a Go To The Top of the page link would be appreciated. I use saved which takes me to the last post. Sometimes I like to check the original post. I then have to scroll all the way back to remember what was originally posted. ?

I don’t think there should be a like button. Too many people not commenting because they can easily like the comment. MNs not posting because no one likes their posts. ?

Having read the book "The Circle" by Dave Eggars, I think a "like" button is a very bad idea. It encourages a sort of social tyranny in which people become obsessed with how many "likes" their posts get and become anxious and depressed if they get few or no likes.

It seems several Gransnetters are very dissatisfied with Gransnet and I wonder why they continue to use it if that is the case. Personally, I find it OK as it is.

Tangerine Thu 28-Feb-19 22:37:40

I don't use my phone. The word games are what I enjoy most of all.

It would be good to have an edit button, perhaps a like button and to have the OP's posts in a different colour. I believe green has been suggested.

I enjoy using Gransnet but limit myself to a maximum of 60 minutes per day.

sroge Thu 28-Feb-19 22:14:30

Why isn't there an app for this site? That would be so much easier than going to the website each time you wanted to have a browse. Other than that I can't think of any other improvements it's a great site.

varian Fri 25-Jan-19 10:19:59

It would be good if we could use the search facility, either for a poster or a subject, then get all the relevant posts in chronological order, starting with the most recent.

Culag Fri 25-Jan-19 10:00:43

And what is the point of the Add Comment button? It’s position seems to indicate that you can comment next to a particular post, but if you use it, your post just goes to the end. Or am I missing something?

Culag Fri 25-Jan-19 09:52:23

I usually Preview before I post, but surely there could be an Edit function that allows you to correct for up to 15 minutes or so. After that it disappears. It can be done cos I’ve seen it on another forum.
Perhaps Gransnet could do with a completely new website.

aggie Fri 25-Jan-19 08:05:24

I agree that the preview bit is better than an edit button and a Like button would be good

BradfordLass72 Fri 25-Jan-19 07:48:17

Dare I say it but the Preview facility is effective as an Edit button. All you have to do (and I admit I often forget) is read your Preview and correct anything you got wrong.

EllanVannin Wed 31-Oct-18 08:43:18

An emoji highlight instead of the written word.

Bathsheba Wed 31-Oct-18 08:39:59

I know we have a preview button, but who wastes time with that?
I do. Would any less time be wasted going back to edit your post?
