Tell Collette Tours what’s stopped you from travelling to certain locations

I should love to visit Paris to see the beautiful sights and pay respects to where Princess Diana died. I have never been there or on many other holidays as caring for both crippled Mum and also Mum-in-law takes up my time with housework, shopping and many house renovations. Sadly Mum-in-law has recently died. I am delighted to say that after several miscarriages my daughter is expecting twins so the home renovation starts again but I love it and cannot wait for their arrival in July

Apart from the cost which makes many places prohibited, I would love to go to South America but am too scared due to the horror stories of what can happen to tourists who visit there.

I’d love to visit Australia but the long journey there and back has put me off!

i want to visit Kenya as i was born in that country but my Children (all grown up) have made me promise i wont go because they are worried i would be killed.
Also i wont visit any Arabic countrys as i dont agree with the way women are treated

The only long coach journey I have ever done, other than day trips, was to Paris, and I swore I would always fly to my destination in future, as I hate being on coaches for a long time. The places I would most to go to now are too cost prohibitive-Australia, to visit Ayers Rock and New Zealand, to visit Hobbiton. I lived in the States for a while but there are still places there I would still like to see and couldn't manage to fit in before like Yellowstone Park- before it blows up!. I've done a lot of Europe, as I have also lived in Belgium, and have holidayed in a lot of exotic places already but, I think, with my knee replacement last year and another pending, I will have to stay closer to home for a while.

The only thing I worry about is the safety of the country I would be visiting.

I have always wanted to visit Egypt but it is the safety aspect that concerns me. That said a couple of friends have been 2 years running and say my fears are unfounded but I just don't know.
Also I would like to go to India but it would have to be on my own as my husband and various friends have all said they will never go there.

It's mainly money that is my biggest barrier to travel at the moment! I'd love to travel to India, but it's a rather overwhelming prospect as it's such a huge country, and somewhere I've never been so I'd like to go on a guided holiday, but that works out more expensive than independent travel. I'm saving up!

Travelling across Russia from Moscow to Vladivostok on the Golden Eagle was a fantastic lifetime experience.

Our dream was to go to Machu Picchu but then a friend went and ended up with altitude sickness and in hospital and that's put us off a bit. I wonder if we've left it too late. Other than that we would like to go most places, particularly Australia where my mother in law lived for much of her childhood , but only just being free of caring responsibilities, we have only just begun our adventures. We would follow safety advice and avoid those places not considered safe.

I would love to go to the West Coast of America, but the journey puts me off because I cannot cope with a long haul flight in cattle class, and also, I have this worry that the west coast is now over due for a very large earthquake.

I'd like to go to Australia but I worry about the length of the flight (my OH has to be careful as he's had a DVT in his leg, although not caused by flying). Would also be interested in going to India but I'm put off by the thought of all those injections required and also the inevitable 'Dehli Belly'!

Having to travel alone

I would love to go to China but I’m worried about the toilets because the arthritis in my knees means I cannot squat, so need a western style loo.

I always thought I needed some one to go with, i now realise I was enough company for myself, I’d love to do some travelling now alone and get to know myself better, it’s not just about the destination it’s the experience.

I would love to go to India but the prospect of a long flight, having to have injections and dodgy food put me off. I always wanted to visit the US but again a long flight.
Anyway the OH won't fly anywhere more than 4 hours so my dreams are just that dreams!

I love to visit Turkey and have been doing so usually twice a year for about 12 years now. However, I would love to visit some of the less "touristy" areas, especially some of those close to the border with Syria. Unfortunately, because of the current political situation in that area, the Government advises against travelling to those parts of the country. Maybe one day...

What puts me off travelling in some cases are the lack of information on staying in the more middle of the road type places. I don't want to stay in top notch hotels as it's just not me, and I definitely am not into camping, although caravanning would be fine.

Dundee is on an extinct volcano. Might get OH to drive there. There are many lovely places around there to visit too.

Kathward, I'm envious. Travelling across Russia from Moscow to Vladivostok on the Golden Eagle would be my dream once-in-a-lifetime holiday, but we could never justify the cost, I'm afraid, and I don't feel we'd be up to doing the Trans-Siberian on the cheap now. The older we get the more we're put off by budget travel, and I'm afraid that's the sort we can afford! I've been lucky enough to travel to many places, usually economy all the way, including a lot of very long coach journeys, but occasionally in pure luxury when I've won a competition or two. I just wish I could win that Golden Eagle trip now!

Like other posters though, I'm much more conscious of my carbon footprint these days. I'm drawn towards companies that advertise more sustainable travel.

The only barrier I have to travelling is the cost

Would love to cross Canada by train. What stops me? Lack of funds, a reluctant husband and a fear of doing stuff on my own!!

Terrorist attacks on tourists and the support for terrorism from a number of governments in the middle east in particular. I refuse to put a penny in to the economy of any country which condones or supports terrorism.
