I have dry itchy skin, especially on my hands. I have to moisturise regularly throughout the day and always after washing them. I have tried many different creams, lotions and ointments, some prescribed and some more effective than others!
It affects my everyday life because my hands are always either dry and irritated making it hard for me to concentrate or I've just moisturised them so they are greasy, sticky or slippery.
I'd love to find a product that works, that will give me some relief and that I can rely on.

I have decided to tackle mine from the inside. I started using Irish moss as a basis for smoothies and my skin has improved immensely.
It is soaked overnight, strained boiled and when cool, is placed in the fridge for future use.

I get really bad dry and itchy skin but find that the answer is to moisturise, moisturise and moisturise some more. My skin thanks me for it!

I have always had very dry skin on my elbows and it gets super itchy,It took a while to find something that helped but E45 seems to work the best for me,I get through so much.

Having been on antibiotics for 2 months, I am really itchy, strangely savlon seems to help

I get horribly dry itchy patches on my neck that go an angry red. I think it is caused by hair products, although it comes and goes without an obvious pattern. There are only a few brands of hair mousse, spray etc that I can use and even these occasionally give bad flare ups. When it is bad I have to constantly cake the patches in E45 or similar otherwise I am clawing at it. As soon as it has all been absorbed I have to put more on. I have it so thick my hair gets stuck to it.

I have to be very careful what products I use as my skin is very sensitive. I use Infracare in the bath as that doesn't irritate it and make it even drier. In the winter I get a very itchy patch at the bottom of my back - I can't work out any reason why this happens - and my fingers sometimes get so dry they crack and bleed. I use E45 and that does help a bit.

My itching comes and goes, mostly on my stomach in the winter, I've discovered that ezcmae cream works well

blahblahblah1 Thu 29-Aug-19 19:58:03

My skin gets terribly itchy after a bath, so I moisturise all over and wait a while before putting any clothes back on.

wef1984 Thu 29-Aug-19 19:34:34

My skin is really itchy at the moment and there is nothing I've found that will soothe it

nabob Thu 29-Aug-19 17:47:23

I bathe in Epsom salts and it is very soothing. Also aloe vera gel works for me. I never use any soap on my face as it is so sensitive.

Minnibix Thu 29-Aug-19 16:00:23

I have to be very careful what products I use, at the moment I am using baby wash which doesn't seam to dry out my skin so much. I use E45 but some nights its just not enough and the itching drives me crazy (I use Germoline as it has a local anaesthetic

I quite often get itchy, dry skin on my hands and my head.
All I can really do is moisturise, stay away from perfumed products and take an anti histamine.
Occasionally I have to use a bit of steroid cream on my head to completely clear it up.

I have itchy skin it is so sensitive I have to wear gloves to cook ie cut up onions peppers etc I have to moisturise more than most and I cant even use normal off the shelf shower gels etc its a pain.

I have to moisture regularly as my skin feels tight and itchy becoming worse in winter. I usually have showers as baths tend to dry it out even more. I also make sure I drink plenty of water as I find this seems to help

florrie01 Wed 28-Aug-19 17:06:37

I have discoid eczema on my arms. Sometimes its worse than others. I use an e45 moisturiser twice a day and this it ok for the most part. I have to make sure i dont miss doing it though or my skin becomes flaky and people can stare. I wish i could find something a bit more effective

My hands get so sore and dry in the winter - they crack and bleed. I haven't found anything that really stops this (help me out if anyone knows what can) - I just have to try and wear gloves as often as practical when outside and use lots and lots of good hand cream - Aveeno probably the best for me.

My legs are always quite dry and a little flaky - moisturise very time I've showered with a nice Vaseline lotion.

I have had a problem regarding itchy skin for a while. It is always on my back and when I mentioned it to my Doctor he suggested that it was dry skin which needed to be moisturised. It's very annoying at times and difficult to reach. I am not sure what cream to use.

cobwebqueen Wed 28-Aug-19 11:58:10

Bathe in warm water with either Oilatum or E45 bath formula or use something like Neutrogena or Oilatum soap. Pat skin dry then use Oilatum, E45 or Aveena on your skin. Himalayan bath salts help sometimes and if skin gets itchy there is a good antibacterial cream you can get on Amazon that works for me.

cobwebqueen Wed 28-Aug-19 11:47:58

Aveeda is pretty good. Bathe in warm water with Oilatum or E45 in water. Can use Oilatum or Neutogena if soap needed. Pat skin dry and moisturise whilst slightly damp with good moisturiser for dry skin. Again Oilatum or E45 are good and so is Aveeda for me!

Suffered terribly with dry skin on my hands when I worked as a painter. Coming into contact with harsh solvents contained in paints and thinners was not good for the skin. Rubbing Vaseline into my hands at the start of the day as a barrier was routine. My hand would itch like mad and it was hard not to scratch them which made them worse. There was a product at the time called Eurax lotion which relieved the itching.

I have come to realise that my skin just won’t tolerate the lovely smelling luxurious creams I really want it to. They often make my skin drier and sometimes I have huge flare ups (angry rashes!) I have managed to combat my problems by using products which are natural. I am always on the hunt to find other products which work for me - I’ve stopped spending lots of money on the “most expensive” hoping that will mean it’s the best. Everyone’s skin is different; and products will work differently for everyone. X

I spent about half an hour yesterday putting various creams on various parts of my body; HC45 round my eyes that have reacted to some make up; antihistamine cream on all my mosquito bites [also calamine lotion]; Arnica on a bruise on my leg. Daktacort on my athletes foot. Voltarol on my arthritic knee. Tend to use E45 as a hand cream these days as it lasts a long time; also put it on my legs as I know dry skin on legs can cause problems as you get older. Shower using Aveeno oil or Oilatum [also use their baby bath/shampoo]. Used to have quite greasy hair and skin; not sure when that changed ! Try not to use Betnovate very often but would hate to be without it

Johnson's baby lotion (other makes are available!) works on dry heels for me. Also you get that lovely 'new baby' smell

Jilly1967 Tue 27-Aug-19 19:36:52

Hemp hand cream works for me
