We have moved 14 times in 50 years. Some of the moves were work related and a few because we fancied a change. The last very big move was 2 years ago when we moved from Spain to rural Oxfordshire. We had a very spacious villa in Spain and have moved to a standard three bed house here so a lot of de-cluttering. I found it easier to do the move in two halves. We sold in Spain and moved to rented in the UK and then bought the house we are in now. It saved a lot of stress but still very hard work.

We have now bought a holiday home in Spain so are going through the furnishing and refurbishment from a distance. We never learn.

We decluttered when I retired. Morning housr and down sizing was an option but we just found it daunting. Now I’m so pleased we stayed put. The family can come to stay and there’s plenty of room.

My husband and I moved from NYC to London a few years ago (I packed up out apartment myself because my husband wasn't able to get time off!)and we moved again 2 years ago and are moving again next year. All our moves have been successful and stress free for the most part. It involves a lot of planning and forward thinking. I feel more put off moving now we are a family but sometimes life has different plans and there is no choice in whether you can move or not.

I don't enjoy moving house, all the upheaval, packing and then unpacking at the other end trying to find a home for everything. What it does do though is make sure you have a good clear out, all the pointless stuff we keep in our loft, if we'd moved house all those broken kettles and other rubbish up there would have been discarded years ago.

I've moved 12 times and the worst parts are the fear of a sale falling through, the worry that you've bought problems and solicitors and estate agents that do little and cost loads.

As newly-weds 50 years ago we built a house just for the two of us but with strengthened joists and windows on the upper level for if we ever wanted more space and could afford it. After two children we needed a third bedroom and put one in. Later when I returned to work we added another. Since becoming empty nesters and retiring we are now making our home into an OAP friendly zone. Easy to clean and maintain both inside and out. We would hate to move anywhere else and the thought of being with lots of other elderly people is not us. If anything happens to one of us we have decided we will stay in our home on our own unless health issues force us to move. Our daughter has already said they would be willing to convert part of their house should it be needed. Still not sure how I feel about that though!!!!

Yes I stayed in my flat for way too long because of the worries over moving. wasn't quite as hard when I finally did it mind

The first time I moved house, I hired a van and did it myself and it was a nightmare. The second time, I used a proper removals firm and they were amazing - quick and efficient. I'd never try it on my own again. We had only two days notice of the move, and managed to pack the whole house up before 10am on moving day. On day two in our new home, we hired a skip to get rid of all the junk we had transported with us. Therefore, my three top tips would be preparation, preparation and preparation!

WE have put off moving house, sometimes its the unknown thats the challenge, we love where we live but just want to update our house ..... do we don't we?

We moved a couple of months ago, it was the best thing we did, we got rid of so much stuff that we don't need. There were boxes from a previous house move 10 years ago that hadn't even been unpacked. If I could I would move every couple of years just so that I would be forced to have a big declutter.

Have you ever put off moving because it seemed too difficult?
No, I love the house we live in now and I've no intention of moving again

What do you least look forward to about moving house?
All the admin, and ridiculous amounts of money going to solicitors, land registry, purchase tax (I forget the proper term!)

Does the thought of decluttering when moving house fill you with dread, or does it feel like an exciting new start?
A bit of both. I long for streamlined well organised 'Stuff' but I have too much that may one day 'Come in Handy!@ LOL!

What would make you consider moving house in the future?
Ummmmm, If we won the lottery maybe a home on the beach... Nearby houses for family too!

Perhaps you have tips for moving house that you’d like to share?
Try and declutter before putting your house on the market. You won't have those panicky tidy sessions before a viewing and packing will be much easier.

I said last time I moved it wouldn't be happening again but I'm afraid it is and we are moving in 2 weeks time - I absolutely hate it and really hope this will be the last time in a very long time.

My mum has lived in the same road all her life, most of my family have lived in the same town. I hope that my parents will stay in their home for the rest of their life. I have moved 5 times. I hope not to do it again for a long time. I like sorting through stuff and fining precious things and also things that I can add to the declutter pile as they no longer mean something to me.
I dislike the uncertainty of waiting for contracts to be exchanged and the living out of boxes sometimes for months.

Moving is always stressful, even when you believe that you are on top of everything. Having moved 3 times before finding this house, it feels good now to be in a home that we are proud to remain in and spend the rest of our lives in.

I have no choice but to move with my current situation. Luckily this will be beneficial for myself and my whole family but; I'm dreading it. Moving house is the single most stressful experience I can think of. I really struggled last time.
I think if the benefit outweighs the stress then it makes it easier, if you have no choice & it's negative then it's going to be seriously tough.

I'm moving again! Grrrrr. Anyone who says they enjoy moving must be fibbing. I packed up and put everything in storage in the north east of eng. to come and stay at my sons in portsmouth. We planned on finding somewhere then bringing belongings down.
Unfortunately my hubby of 15 years left me last christmas so a fresh start was the reason. My relatively new partner wanted to come with me which he did. So his house was another house to pack up and put tenants in his . Point being my OH hates it and wants to go back. I'll explain that he is 12 years older than me so he is 60yo and I am 48yo. The age doesn't bother us. We don't even notice the staring or whispering if there is any. You see i suffer so much pain and lack of sleep i behave more of an older person than he does.
What i was wondering was do these living villages have age limits or in retirement villages . Because if that was the case it just wouldn't be fair for us. Afterall why should my OH lose out because I am too young. Is anyone else came across this situation or have any answers for us.

I hate moving house, the stress of whether or not everything will complete in time, will the buyer pull out (had this happen twice)? Not to mention how physically draining the actual move is - I was so exhausted the last time we moved that I was afraid I'd made myself really ill.

I'm kind of hoping we won't have to move again, we have a large, detached 4 bed bungalow, which is ideal for family visits, so we're hoping to stay here.

I moved house 25 years ago and it was so stressful I never want to move again.
The packing and un-packing took a long time, with 2 children and all their stuff,
Now they have left home I still have so much stuff that would need de-cluttering that it would definitely put me off moving again, I am happy to stay where I am.

We are really looking forward to selling our successful B & B to down size and retire. Packing up what we want to keep and discarding the rest will be hard but it will be the beginning of a great adventure with more travel, family time and hotel stays. I am particularly looking forward choosing new colour schemes and furnishings.

We have just downsized to a bungalow, moving from England to Scotland. It was initially difficult due to the difference in English and Scottish conveyancing laws, meaning we had to have a solicitor in each country, but we found solicitors who had experience in this and they made the process a lot more manageable. It was hard work downsizing from a family home and we had to be really strict with ourselves. That and convince the kids that they really needed everything we didn't want! Overall, it has been a positive experience and my advice would be that it's never too early to plan a move, and to look for experienced professionals who can make it less stressful.

I can’t wait to move house all my children have moved out so I am looking forward to moving into a smaller house. The thing I don’t like about moving house is the waiting around for the transfer of money there is no definite time for this to happen.

I dread the day I need to address my clutter to downsize. It's all too much! I think I'm too sentimental about inanimate objects.

I would love to move to a home of my own but at 56 it very much has passed me by. All that packing and stress would be as cherished as a dream come true.

I think the worst thing about moving house aside from the cost is the uncertainty of it all. If someone will put an offer in on your house (at the right price), if you will find something suitable, how long it will take to all go through, if you can be approved for a suitable mortgage to purchase.
The actual moving costs can be significant especially if you need to hire people to help you move large pieces of furniture.
The clutter and boxing stuff up doesn't bother me too much as I frequently declutter throughout the year.
We definitely need to move in the future as I don't know how suitable our current home will be, however affordability of homes in our area may mean we will have to stay put.
