My husband and I sold our house last year and are currently renting. We sold because I have become disabled and access to and within the house was becoming increasingly difficult.

We had lived in this house for 23 years and 3 of our 4 children have only known the 1 property. The bonus of moving was that our loft was actually full and we therefore cleared an enormous amount of items we had stored "just in case".

The most stressful part was waiting to exchange contracts. We were not in a position to organise a rental property until we had exchanged contracts. A moving date of 14th September had been agreed but we didn't actually exchange contracts until 5th September. We had quotes in place for removals but hadn't found a property to rent. Fortunately, we found a property on 6th September that we could move into on 14th September.

It was incredibly stressful packing up and getting out of the house on time on the day of removal, especially as we had problems with the removal company. Once we had vacated the property, we had added pressure in paying for the rental (we were paying 12 months up front). The keys couldn't be released until the monies were in the account and if we transferred directly from our account, it could take up to 48 hours, which meant we would have nowhere to live/store the furniture for that period.

We are looking to move into another rental property soon. The difference this time is that we will ensure there is at least a week of overlap between moving into the new property and returning the keys to the existing property.

Moving can be stressful if you haven't planned properly. Make provisions for your pets and children and, where possible, try and get someone to look after them for a few days either side of the move date.

Moving is very stressful,i would certainly use a reputable moving company.
Packing properly & labelling boxes for each room will certainly help

We've had to move a lot and our experiences have been mixed. It's hair raising waiting to see if the sale will go through smoothly. Decluttering, packing and then unpacking and finding places for things in a new house are all stressful.

We are now settled and very happy where we are, but if one of us died or if illness made a move sensible, the Pegasus Life option would then be worth exploring.

I don't really mind moving house - I know it sounds bizarre! I find it refreshing to go through my things with a critical eye or see them in a different light when I imagine where they could be placed in the new house.

There is always going to be stress - I was an estate agent for 8 years so I've experienced some of the worst situations you can find yourself in, just try to make sure you keep on top of your mortgage company, your solicitor and your estate agents. They will all let it drag on if you let it.

Take one day at a time and try to be as proactive as possible whether that's chasing people, arranging provisional dates for removal companies, or starting to pack up or sort one room at a time.

When it's all over and done with, celebrate with friends, family, a takeaway and a few bottles of wine in your lovely new home!

We moved last year into a smaller house after a divorce. IT was great to declutter. We sorted into keep, donate and throw away. It amazed me the amount of junk that we had in the house and felt refreshing to get rid of it. We much prefer our house now

I was an estate agent for 30 years and the saddest scenes I saw were people (mostly women) who had left it too late to move. They were living in one room downstairs with the rest of the house going to pieces round them.

Do it before it becomes really necessary, if you leave it too late it becomes impossible to face.

I want to move house in a couple of years but I will decorate the place throughout beforehand. I'm not looking forward to the hard work involved.

I last moved house 32 years ago. I still have some items in boxes to this day.

I'm putting off moving at the moment, it seems like such a daunting task. I think I'll struggle with decluttering, although I'll like the results!

I think house moves are one of the most stressful things you can do! The amount of organisation and speed needed is unreal. Then there is always the loft! We always left it to the day and getting things out of there takes so much longer than you think! I think the key I see to get lots of help!

You are so right Dan29. My mother left it too late, wouldn't move to suitable accommodation. Fell down stairs top to bottom, hasnt walked since. She is 95.

She has hospital bed in lounge, sits all day in one room in wheelchair, saying that she wished she'd moved house sooner, and would not have ended up in this situation.

Don't leave it too late - I've seen too many people hang on in their house and then by the time they need to move somewhere with no stairs etc, they're too old to move!

WE have just moved house from a five bedroomed family home of 19 years to a 2/3 bedroom bungalow. We hope this is where we will manage to stay for the next 20 years but would consider something like an apartment if we could not cope here. Moving is stressful and sorting through all those precious things very time consuming and you go through a real emotional rollercoaster. There were many things we had to find new homes for and many things recycled (take photographs of all those treasured things) and we are only just settling into our new home. I wish anyone moving the very best of luck remember be organised, take your time and be happy in your new home.

I would not consider moving at the moment because the cost is so huge that it is not cost effective

We’ve already downsized happily in Norfolk. Pegasus Life look like nice flats, but the nearest to us are in London! As if we can afford London prices!

I've moved about so much, my Mother would move every 5 years or so, because she'd get bored, so there was a constant feeling of being unsettled. I learnt from an early age not to hoard too much stuff, every time I'd buy something new, I'd look to throw something out so as not to clutter up my room, or the house. When I met my DH, we moved 6 times, as we started in a small flat, and gradually moved forwards, I had the old habits of not collecting lots of rubbish, and he wasn't a hoarder so that was really helpful! We are in a lovely place now, and aren't looking to move any time soon. I still give lots of things away if I find I'm filling our place with too much stuff. I found our move to our present place quite easy, as I didn't bring much of my old furniture, except for a few things, as our place is much smaller and modern now. I felt happy to start afresh, and look back on the places we lived in with affection, but was glad to move on, as I felt we were making a positive move forward to better areas and nicer homes. The house moves were tiring, but I recruited family members to help, boxed everything up, labelled it all cleary, and made sure there was plenty of tea on the go to refresh the volunteers!

Regrettably my family and I are hoarders so I hope I never have to move as it would take months to get everything sorted, packed and moved.

Last time I had to move I literally had a panic attack in the middle of ASDA! The only time I have ever had a panic attack and suffered with terrible anxiety and it was because of the stress of moving. Seems ridiculous but it happened. I found it so stressful and hope we never move again.

De-cluttering is always an off putting chore. Also, I'm not great with change in general, so I would have to feel familiar with the area before I moved.

I love house moves! I like organizing in general anyway so I enjoy the chance to declutter the house, and decide what will go where, and I like packing. I never feel overly attached to a building. As long as my belongings are safe (I never let the removal van out of my sight) I'm happy and looking forward to a new start!

After moving 2 years ago, still can't find things that we knew exactly where they were before

I've never moved house - there's still time but I'm always having clear outs just in case it was to happen

I know some people who move every few years but I like to get settled so amnot a fan of moving. It's just so stressful and expensive.

We have lived in a few different rented houses while searching for our dream home and i loved having a good de-clutter each time we moved. It makes me feel lighter when i get rid of things i no longer use or need
