We all have a dream destination that we’d love to travel to - somewhere where you’ve always wanted to go, but never got around to visiting. While some would love to go on Safari in South Africa, others would be happier lounging on the white sand beaches of Greece. Whether you’d like to travel near or far, there can be many barriers to travel. Perhaps you simply don’t have the time to travel, or think that the total cost of the trip might break the bank? Or maybe you have fears about not being able to speak the language, or your health not being protected while abroad? With this in mind, Staysure would love to hear from you.

Here’s what Staysure have to say: “At Staysure, we believe that if something’s worth doing, then it’s worth doing right. That’s why our customers voted us the UK’s Best Travel Insurance Provider in the British Travel Awards.

We all want to be able to enjoy our holiday, knowing that we will be covered should something happen. We do not want to have to worry about possible repercussions and for that reason having good quality travel insurance should be a priority.”

If you could book a ticket right now, where in the world would you like to visit? What are the barriers that are stopping you from going (eg health, finances, mobility, fear of flying)? Is travel insurance important to you when booking a trip? Does travel insurance give you the piece of mind that you’ll be protected when abroad, or do you have some reservations about what will be covered.

So whether you want to take the trip of a lifetime or just a short weekend away, share below what it is that’s stopping you and you’ll be entered into a prize draw where one lucky GNer will win a £300 voucher for a store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

I have long held a wish to visit Peru and New Zealand. Both of these are based on the Projects I had to complete about these countries waaaay back when I was in school. However, having done quite a few long haul flights to other destinations in the world over the years, I don't feel I could do them anymore. 14 hours sitting in a cramped airplane seat fills me with dread now. Also, now we are in the South West, if we wanted to go somewhere like that, we would have a 4.5hour drive to Heathrow Airport.

If we could go anywhere, we could go to Japan for two weeks and travel across the country staying in a different hotel every night. Finances are the main reason we haven't booked it yet.

Travel insurance is a must whether you're flying short haul or long haul. I wouldn't travel without it. However, it can get costly with existing medical conditions to consider.

I worry that certain things may be excluded from our travel insurance cover and often read the fine print multiple times.

I would love to go to Borneo, the chance to experience such an exciting place, to see jungle and unusual plants but best of all, the possibility to glimpse an orangutan in the wild would be wonderful!

Bali ... for it's stunning beaches, the wild life and the culture. One can dream!!!

I loved ‘Herge’s Adventures of Tintin’ as a child and reading the stories set my imagination alight, spending many happy times joining Tintin and his friends Snowy and Captain Haddock on their adventures to far off lands like Morocco, America and Tibet! I could only dream of going to these exotic places when I was growing up, but I had so much fun imagining how a life of travel and adventure would be!

Now in retirement, I have the freedom to travel and I plan to make the most of it whilst I’m fit and well. Where in the world would I go? Who knows! But I will certainly take great pleasure in seeing and hearing the sights and sounds of every new destination!

I would love to go to Borneo and visit the Orangutan Sanctuary and also view them when they are released back into their normal habitat.

We did manage a cross Canada trip and an Eastern Mediterranean Cruise shortly after we retired, which is a blessing because ill health ( OH now in a Care Home), and lack of money (Care Home Fees!!) have resulted in me having to rely on happy memories, with no prospect of adding further adventures.

The lack of reasonably priced single rooms or cabins is also a factor, as is the horrendous cost of travel insurance once there are medical problems that bump the price up.

I would love to go to America but I'm scared of flying

Love travelling and been fortunate to visit some amazong places both at home and abroad. This year love to travel around the Greek islands and to the Philippines. Although focus for this year is moving home so hoping we still get chance to get away.

I would love to go round South East Asia, Australia and New Zealand with the kids. What an education for them!

So many places I'd like to go!
Some of the major cities in the USA would be first on my list - New York, Boston, Chicago and San Francisco for starters!
I'd love to go to Japan, and also the Philippines as my family has roots there.
Closer to home, Iceland sounds very beautiful.

The Channel Islands. The cost of insurance soared when I hit 70 so I didn’t renew my passport.

The Galapagos islands has always been a place I would love to visit, inspired by a long held fascination with the travels of Darwin and his subsequent theory of evolution. Financial constraints have prevented me, alongside the concerns of sustainable travel to area that struggles with tourism. However, if I ever .ake such a trip then travel insurance is at the top of my preparation list.

I would really like to go back to Florence, it is my favourite city because there is so much to do and see. I love the Renaissance paintings but even strolling around the medieval streets is lovely too. I would go there with my gorgeous guy & enjoy the Italian romance & lovely weather. We always take out insurance & when I am not sure I contact the insurer which always clarifies things. I am dreaming of sipping a lovely smooth cappuccino already.

rubysong the thread is about dream destinations, not about reality. If you read the posts you'll see that none of us have a hope in hell of actually travelling to our dream destination.

Disapointing to see a thread encouraging long haul destinations. Apart from visiting DS2 and Ddil and children every three years I have no intention of adding to global warming. If they were in this country I wouldn't be flying anywhere.

Having had a taste, we would love to explore South America in depth. Main problem? Astronomical travel insurance. We have minor health problems but, combined, they add up to disproportionate cost. Insurance companies set out to scare you - and they succeed. We have scoured many, many companies, including those that are supposed to deal with existing conditions. Sometimes the cost is equal to or more than the cost of the trip.

I would love to visit Fiji .My brother lived there but I was never in a position to visit him so would love to be able to do so now before it is too late.

I'd love to take a coast to coast rail trip of the USA, though it'll have to wait a while - until retirement - as I'd like to take my time and not rush. Having children relatively late in life has meant holidays have had to be family friendly, so I'm looking forward to pleasing myself.
I always make sure I have good travel insurance - I wouldn't travel without it!

MiniMoon Tue 04-Feb-20 13:54:16

I'd love to travel in Cambodia and Vietnam. I would love to visit Angkor Wat, and all the temples. I'd like to experience the different lifestyle of the people there, the sights, sounds, smells, and the food.
What's stopping me? The cost.

CHARLEY1 Tue 04-Feb-20 12:37:22

My dream destination is The Maldives but my husband would hate it - the thought of being on an island that could be walked around in 20 minutes would drive him mad so unless I go on my own it's not going to happen!

natavi Tue 04-Feb-20 11:10:14

Hawaii would be incredible, but the cost of it is what stops me! Hopefully one day...

Back to Israel and USA. Nothing stops us from achieving our travel dreams but ourselves. So looks like it's happening 2020.
