Suffering from either dry or itchy skin (or both) can be really difficult, especially if you aren’t sure of the triggers, remedies or what products to buy vs what you should steer clear of. Plus with so much information on skin out there it can be tricky to know where to look! Which is why Balneum would love you to ask all your dry, itchy skin questions to dermatologist Paula Oliver.

Here’s what Balneum have to say: “Balneum dry skin and itch relief Lotion helps to relieve itchy, dry skin, leaving skin feeling soft, soothed and hydrated. Created from soothing active ingredients such as urea and laureth-6.5, our dry skin and itch relief Lotion reduces irritation and locks moisture back into the skin. Easily absorbed, it’s proven to relieve the itch and is suitable for use with eczema and psoriasis prone skin. Balneum dry skin and itch relief Lotion has also just won the first ever Gransnet Rated!”

Here is a bit about Paula: “Paula qualified as a nurse in 1979 at The Royal Devon and Exeter hospital and has worked for many years in secondary care, as well as in primary care as a District Nurse. She has published several articles relating to dermatological conditions and has completed a Diploma in Nursing, BSc (Hons) in Professional Practice, Master of Science in Clinical Studies and Education at the University of Brighton and is an Independent Nurse Prescriber. Dry, red blotchy areas on arms, wrists and on face. Saw dermatologist a few years ago who diagnosed psoriasis but who also advised not using steroid creams unless absolutely necessary, but I have to use it when I get a flare-up, which happens about every 2 weeks, now. Diprobase moisturises, but doesn't hold back any flare-ups. Have been trying out a natural product which contains beeswax, propolis, honey and teatree oil, but not much improvement as yet (and it's very expensive).

Pjran Fri 21-Feb-20 09:56:01

I seem to have small very dry spots on my arms. So dry you can almost pick them off. Ordinary moisturiser doesn’t help.

What about skin with eczema?

funsizescot1975 Fri 21-Feb-20 11:27:15

I have incredibly sensitive skin especially on my face around my eyes. What s the best to use to deal with a flare up? Ive tried E45 etc are there any over the counter creams that are best for the eye area? i dont wear much in the way of makeup, in fact wearing makeup doesnt seem to trigger it all.

Is it worth wearing cotton gloves at night to break the itch/scratch cycle?

Desdemona Fri 21-Feb-20 12:13:39

I have fairly dry skin on my face, so use moisturiser day and night. However, from time to time I get whiteheads around my upper cheek area so I am wondering whether there is a specific type of moisturiser I should be using or should I stop using night cream to allow my skin to "breathe?"

Hi,
I have psoriasis on my scalp that gets very sore and itchy. It also causes scales that look like dandruff, so I can’t wear dark clothes.
I have tried all the over the counter shampoos but they are not effective. Can you suggest what I can use that won’t make my hair lank and greasy?
Thanks

My problem is an itchy scalp. I've never experienced this before and I'm not sure what to do about it. I haven't changed my shampoo or conditioner. Having spent half term with the grandchildren, I even checked for nits grin Any advice much appreciated.

Geminijen
Double check for head lice.
Shake, comb or brush your hair over a white piece of paper, sink, pillow case.
Just one adult louse can cause awful
itching, the eggs are glued to the hair shaft so don’t move!
It’s only when they hatch you see the little b@@@@@s.

I seem to have a permanently itchy back. There is nothing to see on the skin apart from a few broken veins. I've invested in a back scratcher which brings temporary relief, and how on earth do I apply cream to my back? Also, I have psoriasis on my scalp. Can I use Balneum on my scalp. Lastly (sorry for the long post), I have very itchy forearms which break out in red patches which sometimes bleed. My GP gave me Hydrocortisone which doesn't seem to help. Oh dear, I sound like one very large itch!

Both my 70+ year-old husband and daughter are currently suffering from dry flakingness in the creases of their eyelids, which is sore, but neither will go to the doctor. What do you recommend please, which is safe for such a sensitive area?

I tend to get dry skin after sunbathing. Even short time in the sun with the suncream - results in dry itchy skin. I have tried lots and lots of moisturisers but still no help. What would be your advise apart from staying out of the sun?

siggy88 Sat 22-Feb-20 16:13:34

I tried a free sample of the itchy and dry lotion produced by Balneum and have found it so helpful for my dry and flaky skin that I intend to continue. I had a hip replacement and between worry and loss of appetite I lost a stone and a half and my skin has suffered. I also have varicose eczema and wondered if this is the best product to use on it. I have flare ups and by the time .i can get a GP appointment they have subsided. I am just after some advice. Many thanks ?

Are there any foods that are good to eat or even avoid to help with dry, itchy skin?

marymod Sun 23-Feb-20 20:30:52

I have very dry skin that is sometimes prone to itchiness. I also have eczema and lots of allergies, which makes it difficult for me to find products that are efficacious and not make my skin flare up. My main issue is my scalp, which is dry and flakey, I used to find V05 hot oil really good, but now it contains coconut oil, which I can't tolerate. Anything to help would be really great.

I suffer from Discoid Eczema (this only started badly about 9 months ago) and I use Dermol for bathing and Aveeno lotion with colloidal oatmeal twice every day. I also have a steroid ointment (ClobaDerm) to keep it under control. These were the only products that worked as I was going to have ultra violet treatment if it didn’t get better. I would like to think I could get rid of it altogether one day. I never give up hope! It’s worse at times of stress. Dermatologist said that it’s not caused by stress but stress keeps it going. Any other good ideas or tips would be welcome

I have very bad combination skin. I often have really greasy patches next to really dry patches. What would be the best product to use across my face to handle both types of skin, and keep my dry skin at bay?

I have two conditions, both very long standing. Am prescribed diprobase for lichen sclerosis and betanase for lichen plants.
Any advise please, am at my wits end?

I used a retinoild for the first time a well known brand and it was supposed to be delicate. The reviews even commented how it worked on senstive skin. Mine however was red and blotch I had a real reaction. Could it be a general senstivity and what could I use instead?
