Suffering from either dry or itchy skin (or both) can be really difficult, especially if you aren’t sure of the triggers, remedies or what products to buy vs what you should steer clear of. Plus with so much information on skin out there it can be tricky to know where to look! Which is why Balneum would love you to ask all your dry, itchy skin questions to dermatologist Paula Oliver.

Here’s what Balneum have to say: “Balneum dry skin and itch relief Lotion helps to relieve itchy, dry skin, leaving skin feeling soft, soothed and hydrated. Created from soothing active ingredients such as urea and laureth-6.5, our dry skin and itch relief Lotion reduces irritation and locks moisture back into the skin. Easily absorbed, it’s proven to relieve the itch and is suitable for use with eczema and psoriasis prone skin. Balneum dry skin and itch relief Lotion has also just won the first ever Gransnet Rated!”

Here is a bit about Paula: “Paula qualified as a nurse in 1979 at The Royal Devon and Exeter hospital and has worked for many years in secondary care, as well as in primary care as a District Nurse. In 1994 her career pathway moved her into dermatology and Paula became the lead Clinical Nurse Specialist in a busy dermatology OPD and developed many nurse led initiatives. More recently Paula worked for Galderma (UK) Ltd a pharmaceutical company dedicated to dermatology and managed and led the UK nursing team for Galderma. This successful role entailed delivering education to HCPs on general dermatology, skin cancer and photodynamic therapy. Paula has recently moved into an independent consultancy role in Dermatology to deliver education, service development and clinical care. She has published several articles relating to dermatological conditions and has completed a Diploma in Nursing, BSc (Hons) in Professional Practice, Master of Science in Clinical Studies and Education at the University of Brighton and is an Independent Nurse Prescriber. She is currently an active member of the British Dermatology Nursing Group.”

Do you have any questions for Paula? Do you want to know more about selecting the right product to relieve itchy, dry skin? Do you have a specific skin condition you would like advice about? Would you like to know how best to use their product?

Whatever your questions around dry and itchy skin, post them below and we will choose 10 in total for Balneum to answer. Everyone who posts their questions will be entered into a prize draw where one GNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw!

For several years I have had a very dry patch of skin on the upper bridge of my nose. It gets to the point when it flakes off and bleeds. After trying many products I have found that Aveeno gives me the best results but never fully clears it up.

What can you get relief from an itchy scalp?

I suffer from itchy swollen eyelids and it's been diagnosed as blepharitis. I've been given blephasol lotion and an eye mask to heat in the microwave. I then have to wear it for 10 mins. None if this appears to work and my eyes are still itchy. Would love a second opinion. Thanks very much.

Hello I have dry skin which breaks out usually on my arms. I then tend to scratch as it becomes itchy which leaves scars. I have tried emollient creams and e45 but nothing seems to help. It doesn't help as I suffer with anxiety and I pick at my dry skin patches when I get anxious as a way of coping. Is there anything you could recommend for me to try which would also be good enough to work if I started picking.

I get a form of eczema that starts as tiny blisters before going dry and flakey. Steroid creams help but make my skin dry and thin. Is there an alternative you would recommend?
