We all know the blissful feeling of having a spare hour or two of precious me-time to do the things that make us feel good. While some might feel productive and get a few tasks done around the house, others may prefer to cook up a storm in the kitchen, have a coffee and a cake with friends or just do nothing in peace and quiet. With this in mind, McCarthy and Stone would like to know how you like to spend your spare time.

Here’s what McCarthy & Stone have to say: “At McCarthy & Stone we offer much more than bricks and mortar, we offer a lifestyle, somewhere you can feel safe and secure, make friends and socialise, enjoy the outdoors and have easy access to local amenities like shops, pubs and restaurants. From rural retreats and seaside living, to vibrant city centres and tranquil suburbs, our developments offer something for every taste.

With over 40 years’ experience of building tight-knit retirement communities, you can be confident that we can help find the perfect environment for you. Right now we’re offering to pay up to 100% of your service charge for up to 8 years* or give you 2 months’ rent free* on selected properties, don’t miss out this is a strictly time limited offer.”

*Terms and conditions apply

So, we are asking you: How do you love using your spare time? Do you prefer to keep an active mind and body, or prefer to indulge in leisurely activities to relax? Perhaps you love to go out in nature or maybe you prefer to wander around the high street and visit your favourite shops and restaurants nearby? Is there plenty of choice of things to do to occupy your spare time where you live? How important is it to you to be near to family and friends, and how do you share your spare time with them?

Whatever you do to keep yourself busy when you’ve got a spare hour or two, share on the thread below and you’ll be entered into a prize draw where one lucky Gransnetter will win a £100 voucher for a store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

I don’t get a lot of free time at the moment but I enjoy reading, pottering in the garden and walking & photography.

After a lifetime of working 70 and 80 hour weeks for the Health Service being retired is a joy. Waking up in the morning with a free day is such a luxury that everything I do is a pleasure - reading a book - catching up on TV - listening to a play on the radio - all small pleasures but all things that I never had the time for before - wonderful!

The thing I love most - arthritis permitting - is a relaxing class of yoga. It's good for the mind, not just the body, and there's nothing like it for easing stress, unwinding and letting your whole being feel at peace with the world.

I sing karaoke online, read thrillers, go for a country walk or maybe bake a cake. I also enjoy entering competitions online.

As a full time carer, I don't get that much spare time, but when I do, I like to research our family history. Between us, my brother & I have found all sorts of interesting things about our ancestors.

I love to play crown green bowls both for the actual exercise and the social interaction with my team mates

I have very little 'spare' time, but when I can snatch a few moments I research my own and other's family histories.

Zooming around the Devon lanes in our vintage sports car, with the music turned up to 11!

I've enjoyed learning how to say small pleasantries in other languages. It's amazing how relaxing it is but also how totally rewarding to put into practice. Smiles... makes the world a smaller place and need 'no language'.. but it's even better when a native word or two hits the heart.

I like running. I aim for 5k 3x per week. I'm slow, but I enjoy it.

I love to run and cycle in my spare time. I'm lucky enough to live by the sea so it's beautiful scenery!

I spend my time looking for good deals for my family to kit out their homes. Of course I can’t resist buying a few bits to update our home too.

marymod Sat 12-Sept-20 00:14:51

Working from home means that takes up too much of my time. I love reading, listening to music and watching some tv programmes. I have decided though that I need to get out more and aim to meet up with friends and go for a long walk at least every other day. I'm also planning on a more home-made Christmas this year and enjoying planning for that.
