Anything that I can do to help heavy periods that are causing anaemia?

emmal01 Sat 26-Sept-20 22:26:52

I have lots of menopausal symptoms, hot flushes, irregular periods, forgetful etc, but the doctor was sure I’m not in menopause following blood tests, I’m 46 so unsure what’s going on?

ItsGreatBeingAGran Sat 26-Sept-20 22:38:00

I'm 56 and my periods have been stopped for around 4/5 years now, the hot flushes I have are fairly mild in that I have no sweating or red face but I do go extremely hot extremely quickly, I thought they would be gone by now, how much longer do these go on. Other symptoms of menopause are quite mild thankfully.

I'm 51 and my periods have been awful for years. How long before they stop? It's really affecting my everyday life and relationship.

I am on Evorel 25 but still feel rubbish, the reason I am on a low dose is that I had a full hysterectomy with ovaries removed at 44 and due to headaches and bad veins they though this would be the best option as ones including progesterone made me feel depressed, is there any way I can feel better on these naturally or should I increase my patch dose? Main symptoms are tiredness, achey joints, anxiety and hot flushes.

How safe is HRT?

My family and I have a very strong history of BRCA1 or BRCA2 mutation: I have lost many members of my family. I was told I cannot have hormone replacement.
I have had all the normal symptoms of menopause quite badly. Then 3 years ago I developed other symptoms mostly at night, that have made my quality of life very poor. These include, very dry painful eyes (to the point of not being able to open my eyes) a very dry mouth, chronic pain, a chorionic itch all over my body. These symptoms are severe pain and mean I get very little sleep. My mood is low and I suffer anxiety
I was told I had an autoimmune disease, however recently a specialist said she believed my symptoms are hormonal and linked menopause and that I should go on to hormone replacement and the risk was very low.
I feel confused and do not know if my symptoms are indeed, due to menopause or whether, I should risk HRT. I have been taking sage but don’t find it very effective. I would really value your opinion on this. Thank you.

At 64, it's years since I went through night sweats, however I still have occasional occurrences of waking up feeling hot. Is this normal, or unrelated to the menopause.

I lost my mother recently and this was something we never got round to discussing. At what age should I expect to start showing symptoms and what should I be aware of ? I have no idea how old she was and have no idea what to expect only that stories I hear scare me !

Candelle Sun 27-Sept-20 10:00:53

Menopause began age 44 with extremely heavy periods leading to eventual 'flooding' and clots. Stupidly, I did not seek medical help.

Another symptom was night-time sweating which has continued for decades.

My question is:. when (or, will they will ever?) should these night sweats stop?

I have been medically checked for these sweats as I understand they can be symptom of underlying illness. Not in my case.

dannyelle Sun 27-Sept-20 13:53:50

are there any natural/herbal supplements that I can/should be taking to support my body during menopause?

fionajk42 Sun 27-Sept-20 13:53:51

since menopause, I have found myself putting on lots of weight. I was always slim, but now seem to put on weight very easily, and find it hard to lose that weight. Any advice?

How do I lose the spare tyre around my middle? I used to have an hourglass figure now I'm kind of square!

Libby01 Sun 27-Sept-20 14:25:30

I started menopause when I was 34 years old and I decided not to go on HRT, I had all the classic symptoms, hot flushes, bad temper, depression. This lasted for about 2 years and then I started getting bad pains and constantly feeling sick, the doctors could not identify anything wrong. I suffered with this for 20 years before they eventually decided to scan me to find out that all internal parts were in such a bad state that they had to do a complete hysterectomy urgently. Why do you think this was not picked up earlier

couzels Sun 27-Sept-20 16:50:17

I am 46 and have been experiencing night sweats for a number of months and quick bouts of sweating during the day, particularly to my face, neck and chest. However, I have not experienced a 'Hot' flush, when I have the sweats, it is like a sheet of water on my skin and I am cold - not hot. Is this Perimenopause? I have a marena coil fitted which has stopped my periods.

PinkingMouse Sun 27-Sept-20 17:22:17

How can I continue to exercise and deal with hot flushes?

jools66 Sun 27-Sept-20 17:25:38

I tried HRT patches which caused a withdrawal bleed each month, they made me feel great but unfortunately, the monthly bleed became more heavy and prolonged to the extent that I came off them for about a year. My menopausal symptoms returned and I decided to try continuous patches which don't cause a withdrawal bleed, I am now on week 6 and I have had some breakthrough bleeding on and off for the last 4 weeks, I understand that this can happen during the early days of using these patches but I am wondering how long I can expect this to last before I have to come to the conclusion that these patches do not suit me. Also, is this likely to happen if I try them again in the future, ie do they not suit me at this stage of the menopause but might be ok later on?

blondie123c Sun 27-Sept-20 17:30:07

I have been having night sweats recently which i never had before, despite being 34. Is this early menopause symptoms?

Ikea1234 Sun 27-Sept-20 18:19:34

I'm beginning to think I am I the menopause, although don't have the typical hot flushes. I was wondering what other symptoms were typical as I am slightly worried about a couple of my more 'personal' ones. Could you list them?

Annak789 Sun 27-Sept-20 18:21:22

I am having hot flushes and always so irritable sad does it mean I’ve entered the menopause ? I’m 41 and still have regular periods

sootyo Sun 27-Sept-20 18:27:34
