Is hair loss a sign of menopause and if so are there any supplements that can help?

alem2018 Thu 01-Oct-20 21:48:47

Why does the menopause affect your hair?

suzybean Thu 01-Oct-20 22:04:09

I'm 59 and have been taking HRT for the past 3 years. Is there a time limit and is it ever a good idea to keep on taking it beyond 60? Thanks to lockdown and working from home I managed to get my weight down this year, for the first time in years, so I'm worried about the associated problems that the menopause brings, especially the weight gain.

Any tips for keeping off those extra pounds post menopause ? This seems to be an issue so many others are facing too ! Thank yo

Why are some women affected more than others?

SuzC Fri 02-Oct-20 13:41:29

Would dropping oestrogen levels cause you to get 'hairier'? I am getting far more & thicker 'whiskers' now and my leg hair is more pronounced. This is not something I have read about in menopause symptons before - is it something that needs maybe checking out with blood tests?

Hi I have now had hot flushes for about 5 years . Are there any particular foods for supplements you would recommend to alleviate these as I have quite disturbed nights. Thanks

fevertree Fri 02-Oct-20 19:16:34

There are often posts about vaginitus and vaginal atrophy on these forums and I know of a few friends who have to try and manage it too. If you don't have it/have never had it (despite having had a hysterectomy and ovaries removed) does that mean oestrogen is still being produced? And if that is so, from where?

dragonfly63 Sun 04-Oct-20 09:41:18

Would you recommend any supplements for ladies who have gone through the menopause to help them look and feel more feminine again.

Are women who have a lot of children more likely to be affected by menopause?

I've been wondering about this.
Also, are you more likely to have a rough time if you were prone to PMT?
I'm child free and have never suffered from PMT. I seem to be dealing with the menopause quite well (so far, touch wood etc).

To everyone who is suffering with thinning hair, check if you are vitamin D deficient. I was, and my hair has been awful for years.
Since taking the vitamin D (I had to start on a very high loading dose) my hair is the best it's been for about 15 years.

Is it normal to start bleeding with ovulation as your periods become further apart?

Shoegirl1965 Sun 04-Oct-20 11:55:02

I get lots of painful hard spots along my jaw line infact I have more spots since the menopause than I ever had in my teens. I can also spend hours tweezering out hairs from my chin, throat and now my cheeks. Its so depressing. Does anyone know if there are any meds I can take for this?

I’m 60 eleven years post menopause recently started HRT patches Evorel Conti suffered terrible anxiety, poor sleep UTI’s in my fifties but didn’t associate my symptoms with menopause until recently when I came across the menopause doctor on social media hope it’s not too late to start HRT sleep improving already

My last period was about 20years ago but I thought I was lucky not to experience the menopause symptoms during this time. In the last few weeks I've experienced sudden sensation of heat in my chest and sweat on my brow once or twice a day, could this be me finally getting menopause ? I am 57. I am on various medications which I blame for the sudden infertility,in my thirties.

How can best prepare before menopause starts?

Is it normal to get heavier periods and clots at the start of the menopause?

jochrisbryan Tue 06-Oct-20 12:21:37

The hot flushes, I imagine it is top of the most questions asked, but it is the most awful, most visible symptom that has also got an emotional impact for women. Are there remedies to lessen those?

Missingmoominmama Wed 07-Oct-20 09:54:36

I don’t have night sweats, but I do sweat excessively during the day when I have flushes, or when I’m moving about. I’m pretty fit, so I don’t understand that.

I’m still having regular periods most of the time (I’m 54), but occasionally they go a bit odd, and I’ll spot for several weeks, or not have anything for a couple of months. That’s been happening for around 3 years. I get terrible stomach ache before a period, which radiates down my leg- I’m also sick and have diarrhoea.

Does it sound like I’m anywhere close?

cooljam37 Thu 08-Oct-20 14:58:36

Hi I just wondered if the hot flushes come back? My hot flushes appeared to have abated but I have had a couple while trying to sleep lately, does that mean they are going to start again?

Lollin Thu 08-Oct-20 23:09:13

If one can get pregnant while in the early stages will it stop the hair loss, insomnia, foggy brain and other symptoms?

butters01 Fri 09-Oct-20 15:31:03

I'm 43 and I swear I'm at the beginning of menopause, I haven't had periods for 4 years but think thats due to having the Mirena coil, however I do go through stages of having hot flushes, headaches and my libido seems to have hit the sky also for the past 3 months I've been having really odd dreams
