It’s natural to wonder about what the world might look like in the future, particularly for our loved ones. Sometimes this can be a worrying prospect but it’s comforting to know there are things we can do now to help our family members thrive in the future, whether it’s creating a safe home for them, instilling the life lessons we’ve learnt in our grandchildren, or leaving gifts and donations to charity. With this in mind, Cancer Research UK would like to hear your hopes for the future generations of your family.

Here’s what Cancer Research UK has to say: “A Will is one of the most important documents you’ll ever write. It’s the only way to make sure the people and the causes you care about are looked after, and it’s where you can decide what happens to your money and possessions. Once your family and friends are taken care of, a gift to Cancer Research UK – no matter how big or small – really makes a difference for future generations.

Thanks to our amazing supporters, Gifts in Wills fund over a third of our life-saving work, helping us to make treatments even more effective for future generations, bringing forward the day when nobody fears the disease.”

What advice do you give to your grandchildren about how to achieve their hopes and dreams? How do you hope the world will be for future generations and what steps do you take now to help achieve this? Have you thought about writing a Will? Would you consider leaving a gift in your Will to Cancer Research UK to ensure your family grow up in a world where more people survive cancer?

All who post on this thread will be entered into a prize draw taking place on 22/02, where one lucky Gransnetter will win a £200 voucher for a store of their choice (from a list).

Vouchers of winner's choice will be an e-voucher ordered via the Voucher Express platform. Choice will be dependent on availability at the time. Winners will also have an option to select a 'VEX Gift Certificate" which will give them the option to select a physical voucher or gift card from the full Voucher Express range.

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw!

Life is all about decisions & memories made.
I would suggest to my grandchildren that they listened to people they trusted, took advice from all quarters & made up they own minds. Take their time over the important questions & plan ahead well.
I am a member of Extinction Rebellion & watching the world waking up to climate change, I have great hope for future generations. Todays young are taking it all in & are acting to save the planet.

The most important thing is your health. No amount of money can buy recovery from Cancer and other conditions.

tashcat90 Thu 04-Feb-21 18:54:43

Live life to the full, don't hesitate and be kind to all.

Be happy - find a job that you enjoy - love those close to you and show it - enjoy each other's company & love growing old together - always look on the bright side & don't worry about the future & don't take life too seriously as it's too short.

Instead of thinking about it, I am going to include in my will 2 charities I have supported for years.
I wish good health and happiness to my grandchildren and an awareness and wish to help others in difficult circumstances.

TO BE KIND AND THOUGHTFUL TO OTHERS AND TO BE HEALTHY, HAPPY AND TO LOVE AND BE LOVED

dogcara Thu 04-Feb-21 16:27:03

If I was a Fairy Godmother I would wish my granddaughters Good Health and Contentment, They understand about helping others, compassion and kindness as all the family work in health care, they are interested in doing the same.

Wilsa Thu 04-Feb-21 16:11:07

If you have good health, family and friends you're rich.

ANITAJ Thu 04-Feb-21 16:04:40

I wish for a more friendly mankind. In many respects the recent Covid crisis has shown the best of people, but believe me, it often has shown the worst of human nature. Selfishness, greed, anger, to name a few of the bad things I have seen in the last year. Let's just hope for a "nicer" future...........

Nana29 Thu 04-Feb-21 13:54:57

I just want them to be happy, healthy and kind.
Think of other people and their feelings.

Lyndis Thu 04-Feb-21 13:12:28

To find what makes them happy and do more of it!
Make time for yourself and those that you love
Stop and listen and see all around you
Live in the moment not the past or future
Have the best life you can-be ambitious and take risks-try something newX

I would like my family to thrive in every way and be completely set free from abuse.

SANDIE22 Thu 04-Feb-21 12:20:33

Just to be happy and healthy and treat others as they would like to be treated themselves.

I'd like future generations to be encouraged to live in and relate to the real world, instead of the Internet world. It's sad that a medium which should have offered such potential for progress and possibilities has in reality become so often highjacked for misinformation and intolerance. I'd like the children in my family to retain their grip on reality and genuine values and perspectives.

My hopes are dreams are my grandkids be happy and healthy and enjoy their lives...life is short.

Your parents brought you up well, so rely on your instincts and not peer pressure

summergal Thu 04-Feb-21 08:49:28

I wish them health, happiness and love ❤️
These are the only things that truly matter

joysutty Thu 04-Feb-21 08:41:25

Sorry I forgot to mention I don't have any grandchildren as of yet but joined the Gransnet site as looked very interesting and have enjoyed reading other peoples comments and reading the daily recommendations on things like hair, beauty, HRT or whatever the topic maybe.

At this time for people all around the world to think of others whether they are family members, neighbours or people you see around just going around in their day to day lives. Lots have died, who knows some may not have even made a will as it could even be a younger member in society that has died of Covid19, or indeed other diseases, and lots of questions "if we are going to have this vacinne given once a year like the flu jab to protect us all". I hope that we can get to go on holiday in the UK as well as abroad as we normally save up for a half board holiday for 2 weeks in Malta each March and get the 3rd week free, but its a different world with flying restrictions now anyway. My mother in law had cancer and was treated at the Christy hospital in Manchester but unfortunately it came back end of last year. Cancer Research charities are always on the go trying to find cures.

Olgaharry1964 Thu 04-Feb-21 06:26:44

For me, it’s be happy and as healthy as you can be, don’t be hard on yourself, make the most of life. We have been through a bloody tough year so far and we will get through this xx❤️❤️?

ladyraven Thu 04-Feb-21 01:48:03

Treat everyone how you would like to be treated yourself

TONKATOL Wed 03-Feb-21 22:53:16

I advise that it is important to do their best at school, not because that's what their parents want but because it will give them the best choice of careers in the future. Even those whose job choices don't need many qualifications, I suggest they aim as high as they can and train for something more difficult because it wouldn't take long to train for the alternatives.

I have tried to instil in them kindness and consideration for others and to save up for what they want, rather than borrow.

They are aware of climate change and their carbon footprint so I have encouraged them to volunteer if they are wanting to travel.

Most of all, I want them to have happy, fulfilling lives, where they care about themselves, other people, the planet and animals.

Kittyme1 Wed 03-Feb-21 21:52:15

Be happy, fill your life with love and happiness.

marymod Wed 03-Feb-21 21:41:06

Be true to your own values and never let yourself down. Work as hard as you can, but don't measure yourself against others as we all have different skills.

I do worry for the future of our whole planet with the way we're treating it. I try to live with respect for everything and everyone and encourage them to do the same.

I have to admit that I've not written a will, but intend to do so this year and would definitely leaving a legacy to Cancer Research UK.

stewaris Wed 03-Feb-21 18:52:51

Be happy, healthy and kind and to have enough money to live comfortably but not enough to allow them not to work. Everyone needs a purpose in life.
