Life is a race. It's not a race you are running alone. You are running as one of a relay team carrying with you the baton of all you have been handed by those who ran before. How you choose to run is up to you, but make a conscious choice of your principles and stick to them. Run with all the courage and determination you can muster, always bearing in mind that those to whom you hand over will carry all of that with them. Never believe that your efforts don't matter. The strength of your run may change the course of the race forever.
Having to abandon my regular charitable donations was one of my most painful survival tactics when my husband decided to go off and marry someone else. Instead I have worked over the years with a group of friends to hold four jumble sales every year, each for a different charity. Since we began doing this we have raised of over £50,000 for a series of charities, amongst which were various Cancer treatment and support organisations. It's a small contribution when we have all lost too many in the ongoing battle to defeat this terrible disease.
