Are you getting excited about the Olympics?

I must admit that I'm not. I do like sports, some popular like football and cricket and some less so, like speedway, but I'm not yet excited by London 2012. Will this change when the games begin or will I stay grumpy and unmoved, untouched by this amazing and incredible experience?

Just had a look at the Sky menu - no fewer than 24 BBC Olympic channels! (and in HD)

BurgundyGran Tue 24-Jul-12 19:23:12

I am really looking forward to the cycling, swimming and athletics. But am waiting for the paralympics.

JessM Tue 24-Jul-12 19:03:40

Noticed our freesat menu had acquired a new menu choice last night - "bbc olympics"

Anagram Tue 24-Jul-12 19:01:15

OH says the BBC has procured several Sky channels to broadcast the Olympics. (Don't blame me if he's wrong! grin)

shysal Tue 24-Jul-12 18:58:49

No they are not putting on extra channels as far as I can see. The whole of BBC1, BBC3 and part of BBC2 are all Olympics. I can't bear that much choice, shall just watch highlights on the News I think, which will be more than enough for me!

Are they putting on extra channels?

Thanks Anagram - I'll try to remember AdFab on Thursday night.

Next week's Radio Times arrived this morning - it's going to take some working out. The magazine is HUGE and complicated!

Had a horribly long day at work but made myself stay awake to watch AbFab; however fell asleep halfway through it. Then spoke to someone today who also fell asleep halfway though it. Up until that point I felt it was trying too hard to be funny and wasn't working for me. Will watch the second half on Thursday and make my mind up then.

JessM Tue 24-Jul-12 17:45:45

Saffy's African outfit was utterly priceless. Possibly the best bit of ABFAB costume ever.

whenim64 Tue 24-Jul-12 17:13:30

Thanks merlot. Glad I aven't missed any x

Actually, the opening ceremony is really happening because it's DH and my anniversary that day. After all the expense, it seemed churlish not to let them use it for the Olympics as well! grin I hope team GB do well, but I can't work up much enthusiasm.

merlotgran Tue 24-Jul-12 17:02:40

I don't think so, whenim, I think it might be the last of three specials. One was at Christmas and I think there was one for Sport Relief or something? I don't know how June Whitfield keeps a straight face. grin

Anagram Tue 24-Jul-12 17:01:21

In my tv mag it said it was a 'one-off' confused

whenim64 Tue 24-Jul-12 16:58:56

Have there been two other AbFabs before last night? I noticed it said 3/3 when i turned over to watch it. I hope I haven't missed any. Last night was so funny smile

Anagram Tue 24-Jul-12 16:55:42

Very annoyed I missed that!
But it's repeated on Thursday at 10.35pm, if anyone else did as well...

HildaW Tue 24-Jul-12 16:53:18

Had me somewhat hysterical too Merlot.........especially Patsy in her shapewear.

merlotgran Tue 24-Jul-12 16:47:31

yogagran. Last night's Ab Fab certainly got me in the mood. Bubbles was hilarious grin

Bonmama Tue 24-Jul-12 16:46:01

Living in Aberdeen, I feel very far from all the Olympic activity (even though the torch did come here). But I shall be watching the opening ceremony with a glass of wine and have got the sports programme already organised. I shan't watch everything of course, but will be rooting for Team GB all the way. Having just had a foot operation I have nothing better to do anyway! I think we should all smile and be supportive - whether we are interested or not (and ignore all the bad press).

Frankel Tue 24-Jul-12 16:38:09

I might warm to the Olympics a little more if everything wasn't said to be amazing, incredible or fantastic. Of course, I wish the athletes well. I'm not a great nationalist but, yes, Team GB Golds will be special. It is still an expensive circus, though, a divertion from the real world, teetering on the economic brink. Bread and circuses to keep us all from revolting - nothing much changes.

MaggieP Tue 24-Jul-12 14:18:20

We have the Team GB tea towel and authentic tee shirts for the GC, and now beginning to feel more interested and even excitement at the amazing sports that are about to unfold in this country, it is happening and I wish the best of luck to all Team GB, enjoy watching whether there or on TV. flag otherwise have a nice holiday away from it all! smile

JessM Tue 24-Jul-12 09:26:47

Got my Team GB crop top on. Going off to do my U3A yoga in it. (yes I have got a vest thing underneath to conceal midriff flesh. Will remind them that practice makes you better at things. Even Balancing!
Am trying not to be critical about all the negativity... This may involve a news embargo. Even the BBC last night were trying to make a bad news story out of the fact that the IOC were happy with London.

goldengirl Tue 24-Jul-12 08:26:01

I just love Twenty Twelve! It appeals to my cynical nature

yogagran Mon 23-Jul-12 23:42:52

I seem to be in the minority along with jess, notso , granjura and merlot. It's happening, time to support our team and be proud of what they have achieved so far. I wish them well and will be watching quite a lot of it flag

Frankel Mon 23-Jul-12 21:33:45

I caught a little bit of the excitement after the torch came to town. It wasn't the torch, it was the infectious smiles on the faces of the children.

HildaW Mon 23-Jul-12 21:15:12

Obscene commercialism coupled with rank inefficiency and incompetence. Tis a shame really because all that I read or see aboput particular athletes show them to be hugely dedicated and highly professional. I wish them well but will not be watching.
