EU - Tops the Olympic medal table

Not a sovereign country

German consultancy - Euro Informationen have compiled a medals table with EU right at the top.

Yes - BUT - if it was competing as a country there would only be one competitor in each event from the EU instead of 28 as it is at the moment - hardly fair odds!

Does that mean that Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and England should not be able to compete as separate countries in the World Cup or any other sporting competition? Only the UK can have a team?

The EU is not even a sovereign state (which the UK is) but a voluntary grouping of individual sovereign states for their own individual advantage.

You can prove anything with statistics. . The EU is not a country and if thy are trying to muscle in the Team GB's medals total they can take a running --triple- jump.
I thought the comments yesterday (?) from a German cyclist and from Australia casting aspersions at our cycling success just smacked of being bad losers too.

No it doesn't mean that Monica and a few years ago there was great publicity about this very point - the football associations were afraid this could happen - however the Rugby Union has individual country teams and also a combined team - the British Lions. However they do only compete in any particular event as either an individual country team or a Great Britain one - hence each country had a team in the recent European football competition.
