Please join us in conversation if you enjoy Wimbledon - it is just 2 weeks of the years and greatly enjoyed by it’s fans.

I remember Angela Mortimer too, she won in 1961 and she's 90 now!

TopsyIrene06 Sun 03-Jul-22 16:03:19

No, you are not alone GrD. I remember all but Angela Mortimer. It takes you back doesn't it.

A few of them looked as if their hips may be dodgy. Good to see Chris Evert looking well after her rotten year.

Yes it was lovely to see all the past champions. Am I alone in being emotional seeing them all?

Come on Heather.

Smileless2012 Sun 03-Jul-22 15:08:36

Really enjoyed seeing the past champions on centre court earlier. Heather's game seem to have picked up but she's going to have to do much better to win this one.

Kyrgios was a disgrace. The man can play so no need to behave like a toddler throwing one tantrum after the other. Far worse than McEnroe ever was, but I always a McEnroe fan; still am.

Millie22 Sun 03-Jul-22 12:45:12

I agree about the boring ... so boring voice and he never stops talking.

Callistemon21 Sun 03-Jul-22 11:34:37

Mollygo

He reminds me of John McEnroe-same sort of stupid distractions and bad manners.

Amazing that McEnroe has morphed into the commentator with the most boring voice!

merlotgran Sun 03-Jul-22 08:55:47

Who is he playing next?

Luckygirl3 Sun 03-Jul-22 08:44:39

Tsitsipas described him as a bully - indeed so.

Sparklefizz Sun 03-Jul-22 08:38:58

I think he behaves worse than John McEnroe. I really don't like him and hoped he'd lose. Unfortunately he didn't!

JenniferEccles Sat 02-Jul-22 23:44:14

I didn’t see the whole match but I saw enough at the end to see that Kyrgios was up to his old tricks.
WHY aren’t the authorities tougher on him? Is it because he’s a crowd puller? (Well a certain mentality of spectator that is)
When I think about how strictly they enforce the all white dress code, it’s extraordinary that such bad behaviour from the likes of Kyrgios appears to be tolerated.
His opponent struck a ball into the crowd I understand?

It is not good tennis to deliberately try and rattle your opponent by your bad behaviour rather than your tennis skill.

The officials at Wimbledon must crack down very publicly on this. He was just game-playing - rushing to serve before ball-boys/girls had had a chance to return to their places - it is just plain rude and it should not be tolerated.

There is one lovely player who thanks them when they give him a ball. That is what we need; not this cheating show-off.

He is a good player - but he should rely on that for his wins.

I know who I was supporting tonight and it wasn’t Kyrgios. Dreadful man.

Nor me. I'm sure he spoilt T's concentration.

silverlining48 Sat 02-Jul-22 22:52:05

Suspect this isn’t the place to say it but will be glad when it’s all over.
Saw a few minutes of it earlier as I was trying to find a channel not showing tennis, and saw a lot of bad behaviour. Surely that’s not acceptable.

tickingbird Sat 02-Jul-22 22:46:26

Zoejory.

My opinion is just as valid as yours. My credentials may well be better than yours, yours may be better than mine, but who cares?

You obviously care a great deal as you brought it into the discussion and somehow thought it proved you knew what you were talking about and I didn't. You were wrong.

As for the match it was brilliant but spoilt by the behaviour of Kyrgios. He caused Tsitsipas to lose his composure and possibly the match.

Swearing and breaking raquets doesn’t bother me as they’re giving their all out there and understandably get frustrated. NK was deliberately provoking Tsitsipas and trying to break his concentration. It’s gamesmanship and tantamount to cheating. I hope he gets his arse kicked in his next match.

I won’t be saying anymore than that.

^Zoejory^. I wouldn’t go there if I were you. I played at county level myself. My middle son is a tennis coach and I’ve even met Nick Kyrgios in 2014 just before he went onto play at Wimbledon and beat Nadal. I could go on but that doesn’t inform the discussion in any way. Kyrgios has a bad reputation deservedly so. Tonight’s behaviour was intended to put his opponent off his game. In cricket it’s known as sledging - the Aussies are known for it. He once audibly informed Wawrinka at change of ends that his mate Kokkinakis used to ‘screw’ Stan’s current girlfriend It caused a lot of upset at the time. If he feels he can’t win with his tennis he will resort to childish petulance and displays of temper.

Obviously some find it entertaining. Personally, I’d rather watch good tennis.

I certainly will go there, tickingbird! I hope you don't mind. Maybe we even played each other!

My opinion is just as valid as yours. My credentials may well be better than yours, yours may be better than mine, but who cares? I'm sure you know that Kyrgios and Tsitsipas have a long relationship. They played doubles together. Tsitsipas knows him very well and is well aware of his match play and temperament.

Kyrgios has ended up being piled on by the media. He doesn't handle it well. He made some very valid points about social media and how someone becomes hated. Even amongst Grans! He has posted some of the vilest tweets he receives.

I know all about what Nick has said and done. There are endless lists and clips on YouTube, yes, YouTube of all places! I know he tanks sometimes. He certainly won't try for every point. He knows when to play the winners.

Obviously some find it entertaining. Personally, I’d rather watch good tennis

This match wasn't good tennis. It was brilliant tennis. Shame to focus so much on just Nick's behaviour. Had Tsitsipas hit someone in the crowd the 2 times he whacked the ball he'd have been booted out. Bit different to swearing, in my humble opinion.

Callistemon21 Sat 02-Jul-22 22:07:16

It's just not cricket tennis, is it.

Kyrgios is being absolutely dreadful and getting away with it. For some obscure reason the crowd is on his side. I’m so annoyed, he is a cheat and an offensive little sh.t.

WHAT…. you and I can’t have been watching the same match, either that or you must have left the room at some point. Kyrgios is quite disgusting in the way he tries to put his opponent off. I know who I was supporting tonight and it wasn’t Kyrgios. Dreadful man.

Sorry Honeysuckleberries, I was replying to Mertlotgrans post at 20.52.

I wasn't supporting either of them. I didn't care who won as they were more or less equally matched but Kyrgios did win so we'll have to see how he behaves in the next round.

I enjoyed the pace of the game and the brilliance of some of the winning shots. I don't go into pearl clutching mode over bad behaviour. That's for the officials to deal with. I'm glad they let the match proceed or we'd have been denied some exciting tennis.

Pity the officials don’t step in when they really should. Kyrgios is allowed to get away with appalling behaviour time and time again. As for pearl clutching………

Phew! That match wasn't good for my blood pressure!

Shame Kyrgios won

Couldn’t agree more.

It’s been a great tournament so far and tonight’s match was the best as far as entertainment goes.

So what if it was controversial? Saturday night’s alright for fighting! (only joking)

Both players were equally matched in skill and dodgy temperament. The pot was bound to boil over.

Anyone who says it’s not tennis is right but I’m sure normal service (pun intended) will resume tomorrow.

Callistemon21 Sat 02-Jul-22 21:36:46

Me too!
