Lots of adults say they don’t understand the scoring. Your little GS is doing well
Come on Katie !!

Grandmadinosaur Thu 30-Jun-22 15:25:05

I’ve had a Magnum. I need to keep a clear head for GS who will be here soon. He was here yesterday bless him we were sat cuddling up watching Emma Raducanu and trying to explain the scoring to a 5 year old! Seems to be getting into it though. Hurrah.

It is usual to support our own up-and-coming players and show off their talents on TV.
At the Roland Garros French championship Tv channel Eurosport showed more French players in their games.
There is a lot of etiquette and traditions around tennis - and I for one like it Honeysuckle .

Am I wrong (probably) but the bbc are showing a tedious match on the only beeb channel doing Wimbledon this morning because it has a British player, who is predictably not doing well. Meanwhile Kyrgios is playing but to find him you have to use red button or I player. Mind you they’ll probably switch channels at some point ad nauseum.

Zoejory

Isner himself admitted it was his serve that helps get him through. He didn't want to get involved in rallies with Murray due to his ability.

You have to use whatever it takes!

I'm so sorry for the loss of your sister GrammarGrandma flowers.

I thought Isner was very gracious in victory but I'm guttedsad.

GrammarGrandma Thu 30-Jun-22 09:58:13

I love it! And this year it is keeping me going during a difficult time. My sister died last week and I was in a hotel in Eastbourne for a few days sorting her affairs. I was alone in the evenings so thanked God for the reassuring familiarity of grass court tennis.

Oh no, Andy has gone! He was so fed up with himself. I have never seen him expressing that frustration before.

I agree the continual aces from Isner were boring. Andy miscalculated several of his drop shots which he would easily have managed in the past. He isn't on top form although his tenacity and determination couldn't be faulted.

I certainly needed Sewing Bee to calm my nerves smile

Interesting prejudices /misconceptions on here !
Owner isn’t a younger player !
He can do more than serve!
Can be beaten by clever play eg Murray’s frequent drop shots

Missed the end. Took the dog for a walk while the roof went on. It’s what I tend to do when there’s a penalty shoot out.

LauraNorderr Wed 29-Jun-22 21:28:12

Wow, cheerio to Andy… for now

LauraNorderr Wed 29-Jun-22 21:22:01

Just as well Sewing Bee is betting recorded.

Grannybags Wed 29-Jun-22 20:34:39

My heart is racing!

PoppyFlower Wed 29-Jun-22 20:33:41

Yes, I agree Isner isn't bad doing rallies, I remember some good rallies in that 6.5 hour epic match. Maybe his stamina doesn't last in rallies now... Talking of stamina or lack of, I may have to switch over to the Repair Shop for some respite!!

Smileless2012 Wed 29-Jun-22 20:31:33

OMG not sure my nerves are going to be able to take this.

Zoejory Wed 29-Jun-22 20:30:52

Well done ? Brilliant.

Sweetpeasue Wed 29-Jun-22 20:30:22

Don't MayBee70 !

Sweetpeasue Wed 29-Jun-22 20:29:39

Oh Wow! Phew. Andy's still in.

MayBee70 Wed 29-Jun-22 20:28:45

Woohoo! Trouble is I need to take the dog for a walk…

MayBee70 Wed 29-Jun-22 20:28:10

I was wondering how people do get to beat him. All I can think is that, being such a big-man, if you can play into a third set his stamina runs out. If every tennis player just played like that would people bother going to matches? To be fair, he does play some good shots away from his serve.

Zoejory Wed 29-Jun-22 20:16:22

Isner has a colossal serve. Apparently he had 54 aces in his first round match. He's set to break the record of most aces in career. He's powered over 13 thousand.

It must be disheartening to play him. But he's never won a slam which is interesting.

PoppyFlower Wed 29-Jun-22 20:06:37

Isner's serve is sapping the energy out of the game! Andy can't get a firm enough foothold. But he's not giving up!
