My local sports and social club and its management committee lack of vision and accountability, not to mention unconstitutional attitude.

Thanks for asking about this, Allira. It looks like there was a spammer on the loose on this thread - we've zapped the posts so they're no longer showing up.

Thank you so much for this advice, these people that claim to be in charge through a diplomatic committee process, are members of the club as we all are, it makes the good members feel like a criminal element has been allowed in. I intend to get to the bottom of it if it's the last thing I do👍

I think you may need legal advice here. It would be interesting and useful to know exactly what the agreement was with British Rail. If a peppercorn rent is being paid then it is still their property and the land cannot be disposed of by a third party. You can find out who is the actual owner of the land from the Land Registry for a small fee which I think would be worth doing. If it is still BRA then definitely approach them. You could do this anyway. If the land is now owned by this new company look them up at Companies House for free. This will show you exactly who the directors are and whether it’s registered as a limited company or a charity which could well have constraints on their permitted activities.

Thank you for your message, I know this is going to be a long painful journey, I haven't been to the citizens advice service yet, so that's the first port of call.

I would suggest you contact the Citizens Advice Bureau, some solicitors also offer a free initial appointment.

Our social club and its members cricket section woes.
When the former owners British railways association pulled out of our small town in 1993 and offered the club on a peppercorn agreement providing it ran the club for the members as per the British railways association constitution and prov8de sports facilities for its members I.e cricket, bowls etc.
It was once a beautiful haven of peace and tranquillity but alas the committee refuse to be accountable with no interest or vision to leave a legacy for the local community and associated groups wanting to use the green for recreational and to combat loneliness, and are now in the process of selling off portions of land to feed their negative and selfish ideals and far fr9m what the club was established for 140 hears ago, of a 999 year lease. It's a tangled web of deceit and lies in their attempts to cover up their almost criminal approach to running the club and excluding members and potential new members to the club. They have a constant gripe about us as cricket members, they refuse to invest in our thriving section and would have sold the cricket pitch had it not been designated green belt. But that doesn't stop them refusing to negotiate a shared lease to allow us to continue to thrive and prosper. Ultimately they are responsible for the funding streams available for its members but refuse point blank to assist in any positive way full stop, they have even gone to the extreme of blocking us from an EGM they called to discuss the sale of parts of the club without planning consent? My aim is to seek justice and gain control of the cricket pitch and move on, but unravelling their tangled web of lies and deceitful actions is very hard and I need some support and would welcome some legal advice. John Allan Earlestown cricket club chairman.
