A thread for those who are watching it.

Not sure how interested in it I will be.
Like I said on the not watching thread, it may depend how far some Countires I am interested in, get to, in the competition.

Kick off has been delayed until 2am. I’m out!

It was interesting what they were saying before the game about how much money Norway has put into football over the years to encourage young people to play. Reminded me of how much money we ploughed into sport in the run up to the London Olympics and how successful that was.

I'm not normally pleased to see Erling Haaland score goals but those tonight were brilliant.

Norway may be a team to beat.

I'm not impressed with Trump either. Nor FIFA.

MartavTaurus Sun 05-Jul-26 21:39:15

True JaxJacky but he was on home turf! 😆

Jaxjacky Sun 05-Jul-26 21:33:48

But Lewis was on the podium for the British GP Martav (might be clutching at straws there, I hope not).

Casdon Sun 05-Jul-26 20:46:23

I’m not impressed with Trump interfering with the referee decision to give a USA player a red card. That was nepotism at its worst.

MartavTaurus Sun 05-Jul-26 20:44:16

Oooo dear!
You do know that a Mexican won Stage Two of the Tour de France today. I hope that isn't an omen.

That’s our plan squiffy as I said yesterday, media blackout, BBC2 at 7:10, it was announced on the BBC yesterday ‘stay up or get up’.

I'm still confident in my prediction on here 7 days so, France to go all the way.

Last night, Paraguay were thugs. The French kept their cool, which doesn't always come naturally to them.

Agree probably will be France, with Mateta joining Mbappe on the field and also scoring. Well I’d like to think this as he also plays for my premiership choice of teams.

Just an observation, after Paraguy's poor behaviour last night, does anyone else think the referee is sometimes useless? I know it's a tough job, but letting physical violence carry on under your nose is wrong, completely.

The media are agreeing with you. On all of it.

I don’t understand the technicalities of football but the pundits were horrified by the refereeing last night saying Paraguay should have had several yellow cards and were actually out to do physical damage. All credit to France for rising above it but the beautiful game in this World Cup has become decidedly ugly. I have wondered if the reason why some fancied teams have gone out is because the newer teams are playing dirty? Was that referee last night being paid to ignore blatant fouls? Thank goodness France won.

This looks like a great idea!

In addition, there will also be a full no-spoiler re-run of the game on BBC Two from 07:10 BST, while a full re-run will be available on demand on BBC iPlayer immediately after the match.

This was announced on the radio this morning.

Just watching the noise the Mexicans are making outside the England hotel. Banging drums, singing, chanting, shouting, fireworks. I could never sleep through that. Very unfair.

It makes my blood boil. 😡

There was one foul in particular, where there were about 4 players annoyed with about 4 players from the other side. Referee handled things well.
I shouldnt imagine every referee is good.

fancythat Sun 05-Jul-26 09:05:06

I didnt see that match.

Watched Canada V Morocco.

9 yellow cards issued in total? About euqal for both teams?

In that game, not that I know too much what exactly constitutes a foul, the referee seemed to do a good job.
The crowd seemed largely happy with all the decisions.

Yes, they’ve got a good chance too. Or Brazil, never to be written off.

MartavTaurus Sun 05-Jul-26 07:40:31

Outside Europe, Casdon, Argentina has to be one to watch.

Casdon Sun 05-Jul-26 07:36:58

France are the Bookies favourites, so you could well be right MartavTaurus. Spain can always surprise though, so I’m not writing them off either. If it’s not going to be England, I’d like another European side to win.

I normally pay a visit to the loo around 3am. I doubt I’ll be able to resist putting the bedroom telly on to check out the score.

Snap!!! grin
