A thread for those who are watching it.

Not sure how interested in it I will be.
Like I said on the not watching thread, it may depend how far some Countires I am interested in, get to, in the competition.

As in, pointless game.

If ever there is a pointless game of football it is 3rd/4th place in the World Cup. The England team must just want to get home to spend some family time before their domestic leagues begin again next month.
Tuchel must shoulder the blame for last night's defeat. To take off Anthony Gordon for a defender and play 5 at the back when we were only 1-0 up was foolhardy, to say the least. You may get away with that tactic against a poorer side but Argentina, who are reigning World Champions, not a hope.

Gosh yes.
I wont be watching.

I really hope Spain win now.

So disappointed especially for all the children watching last night. It was great for a short time to have something to be happy about.

Galaxy Thu 16-Jul-26 12:07:24

That made me smile.

Jaxjacky Thu 16-Jul-26 12:05:55

Keir Starmer has been asked who he’ll be supporting in the final, his spokesperson said ‘the PM wishes both teams well - especially Spain’

Shame on the Argentine fans for booing the English national anthem and for displaying the placards. Whatever the rights and wrongs and there are plenty of wrongs on both sides, the question of who rightfully holds sovereignty of the Falklands/Malvinas should not be debated at an international football match.

Thanks for that.... Saturday it is.

The English team did brilliantly to get that far . I had to switch allegiance to England ,my second team, once my team was defeated but Australia did well, too, considering they are pretty much newcomers to international soccer ( we have the AFL, completely different)

They did 👍🏻

“We”? It’s nothing to do with me. If anything I’m relieved that England didn’t win, because if they had, the news would have been about nothing else for weeks.

Ahh that’s a shame you feel like that.
It would have been happy news for a change, instead of all the doom & gloom.

MT62 Thu 16-Jul-26 08:42:59

I really hope Spain thrash the Argies 🤞

Galaxy Thu 16-Jul-26 07:42:32

Why would I need forgiveness from someone I don't know on the Internet.

Padstow13 Thu 16-Jul-26 07:38:48

Galaxy

You seem to be the one who is becoming enraged by it all Padstow. I think it is fine for people to have strong feelings like yours and fine for people to express pride and enjoyment in their team.

I'll say I'm enraged. On a very serious note let's consider all the female victims of domestic violence whose de-ranged football fanatic husbands/partners will have laid all the blame for England's defeat at their feet........ that's a result of 'strong feelings' Galaxy.

But I'm prepared to forgive you this time.

MartavTaurus Thu 16-Jul-26 07:37:57

I think it is Saturday at 10 pm.

That champagne needs to be drunk sometime though I need to restock the nibbles!

Jaxjacky Thu 16-Jul-26 07:36:48

Such a disappointment, we were outplayed.
Think it’s Saturday Plevey.

Plevey08 Thu 16-Jul-26 07:29:02

Yes MartavTaurus, we still have a chance for Bronze against France on Sunday 😊

At least there won't be a bank holiday now, which I didn't think was a particularly good idea.

Padstow13 Thu 16-Jul-26 07:16:46

Listening to local radio this morning and people are reacting as if there's been a death in the family!

It's purely a cold-hearted business now whereas it used to be a simple game of the people. But a game nonetheless.

Do get a grip.

MartavTaurus Thu 16-Jul-26 07:16:24

Dare I say it, but I'm looking forward to the match England v France.

Plevey08 Thu 16-Jul-26 07:10:18

Argentina were pretty excellent in the second half... played nasty in the first.. Tuchel knew we didn't stand a chance after our goal. That's why he put in more defenders, damage limitation. This was the only match we didn't see Tuchel remonstrating on the sideline, he knew what Argentina were about to unleash. England players should be proud they achieved so much getting into the SF.

Rosie51 Thu 16-Jul-26 01:27:30

That poor football fan Surely Padstow13 you meant Ha! Ha! Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! he’d be one of the people that supported the team?

Padstow13 Thu 16-Jul-26 01:15:22

That poor football fan featured in yesterday's media who was so very certain of an England win at the final that........he had an elaborate tattoo of the trophy done. It's very good quality so must have cost a few bob.

But now what?

So you don’t have any empathy for the disappointment of the team who gave it their everything, and the people that supported them just because you’d have to avoid some news for a bit?

Empathy? For 11 more than exceptionally over-paid and over praised Divas, who "gave it their everything"?

Ha! Ha! Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

Ditto and all agreement, Grandma70's: never mind weeks, it would have dominated Brit media on all levels for the next 60 years!

And Harry Kane would have been given a seat in the House of Lords......
