Any tennis fans? Especially Wimbledon?

Sad to see our female number one not competing due to injury! Emma R did so well at Queens.

Still, this week we do have a number of Brits and a good few wildcards.

Will you be watching and who are you supporting?

I’ll def be watching all our girls and boys and the Williams Sisters who are playing (as wild cards) in the doubles.

Might have to turn off the volume if there is too much “grunting” on court, drives me nuts!

I’m on tenterhooks. The wheels are starting to come off for poor Arthur.😰

J52 Fri 10-Jul-26 14:49:48

I’m not impressed with the umpire.

Cossy Fri 10-Jul-26 14:37:17

Come n Arhur! 🎾🎾🎾

J52 Fri 10-Jul-26 14:29:01

He’s certainly holding his own so far.

merlotgran Fri 10-Jul-26 13:37:45

Good Luck, Arthur. 🙏

JenniferEccles Fri 10-Jul-26 12:36:17

He certainly has!

Luckygirl3 Fri 10-Jul-26 12:25:42

Yup - I'll be cheering him on - but fear my cheers might not help as he is facing a challenging opponent. Whatever happens today he has done brilliantly!

JenniferEccles Fri 10-Jul-26 12:04:15

He’s certainly likely to have a tough battle on his hands today playing the number two seed, but he never seems to be daunted by who’s across the net.

I’m sure the majority of the Centre Court spectators will be rooting for him which should help.

I will certainly be cheering him on as will everyone on here!

Come on Arthur 🎾 !

Yes this afternoon will be very interesting. Just as well it’s too hot to do anything else!

I never understand why anyone comments on a thread, which is full of enthusiasm,
just to say. “Can’t stand it blah blah” .
There are many other threads you could have a worthwhile contribution to.

Agreed.
I suspect it's just a 'wind up'.
I really don't have time for that.
Heyho - today should be wonderful!

NotAGran55 Fri 10-Jul-26 08:33:42

I had a great time yesterday at Wimbledon, and both finals at Queens.
I wasn’t bored for a single second, just very hot every day 🥵

Luckygirl3 Fri 10-Jul-26 08:29:45

Today looks like an interesting day in the men's!!!!

TillyTrotter Fri 10-Jul-26 08:21:05

Or start your own thread about something you are interested in.

Can't stand tennis. It is boring and very over rated and still full of snotty class snobbery. Have you ever seen a game of Padel. Much .more inclusive and exciting.

As for the yearly BBC overkill coverage of Wimbledon. Can they now ditch this and give us better value for the ever increasing in.price TV licence?

Snotty class snobbery?
I play tennis and it costs me less than £90/year at our local club. I could play every day for that.
Our local Padel courts are £40 an hour.
I don’t think I’m a snob, just enjoy a great, OK these days it’s a mediocre, game with friends and a drink in the bar afterwards.
Actually this year it’s been 5 weeks, Queens, Eastbourne and Wimbledon.
Hurrah🎾🎾🎾

Arthur Fery v Flávio Cobolli ‘s quarterfinal was thrilling,
as was Coco Gauff v Kristina Muchova’s semi-final.
A treat for us fans to watch and inspiring to youngsters.

Padstow13 Fri 10-Jul-26 02:40:59

The cat seems to like watching Wimbledon - watching him following the ball is crazy!

JenniferEccles Thu 09-Jul-26 23:40:19

Whatever happens tomorrow Fery has much to be proud of.

I’m sure he will put up a good fight though and his dogged determination to battle to the end regardless of the score, has erned him a lot of respect.

singingnutty Thu 09-Jul-26 21:29:28

I tuned in to the Fery match at the beginning and just had to watch the whole lot. Brilliant, particularly the final set.

foxie48 Thu 09-Jul-26 20:57:50

Thought the last set of the Gauff/ Muchova match was riveting. tbh I didn't mind who won, they both played great tennis and either would have been a worthy winner. I'm all set for tomorrow's Fery match!

Can I ask what sort of programmes you would want to replace it with?

Do you play Padel? Quite a new sport, I believe. When it involves international tournaments, it probably will involve expense that only a few can afford.
I play social tennis at our local club, they have sessions for the local primary and secondary schools. They also have classes for ages 7+ subsidised by the LTA. The children get a free racquet and kit..
Hardly ‘snooty snobbery’.

Wimbledon doesn't feel snobby either. We were lucky enough to get tickets in the lotterys a few years back.
On the other hand it's a place where tradition is very important, perhaps WKOI is conflating the two.

I really wanted Coco to win. What a nail biter of a match.

So did I. It certainly was, right to the bitter end.
The quality of matches this year has been superb.

She’s so elegant and beautiful ( I know that shouldn’t make me support her but it does). I felt so sorry for her hurrying off the court obviously upset sad. I now feel guilty about wanting Dimitrov ( swoon; heck I’m so shallow) to beat Fery but I hope he can take consolation in knowing he actually got beat by a phenomenal player. What is good is that these young players are so grounded and make a point of tennis not being their entire world.

Plevey08 Thu 09-Jul-26 18:53:37

I love watching Wimbledon and the World Cup. Only thing that's kept me sane in this heatwave. I really don't enjoy listening to Tim Henman in the commentry box, he is so dull and predictable and every sentence is a cliche. Much prefer McEnroe as he really understands each players strengths and weaknesses. Jobs for the boys , they now have Jamie Murray giving statistics...he looks uncomfortable and sounds odd in the role.
