I really wanted Coco to win. What a nail biter of a match.
The land is dry, and the people are ...stupid?
Any tennis fans? Especially Wimbledon?
Sad to see our female number one not competing due to injury! Emma R did so well at Queens.
Still, this week we do have a number of Brits and a good few wildcards.
Will you be watching and who are you supporting?
I’ll def be watching all our girls and boys and the Williams Sisters who are playing (as wild cards) in the doubles.
Might have to turn off the volume if there is too much “grunting” on court, drives me nuts!
I really wanted Coco to win. What a nail biter of a match.
As the BBC pay for commentators like Martina and Tracy, players with outstanding credentials, plus others in the commentary box with them, why do we need this extra 'courtside' layer?
If not Naomi Brady, then as today, Laura Robson 'telling us what she is seeing courtside'?
Just why?
Does it really add anything of value we haven't heard
from the experts?.
Padel is really quite an elitist sport because of the cost of court hire. Courts are expensive to build . Pickleball is much more inclusive as it's easier to learn and tennis courts can be adapted for use. Also pickleball rackets are cheaper. Having said that, tennis isn't that elitist, there are public hire courts in pretty much every town or park. Where I live they are free to use, you just turn up and play. I used to belong to a club. As a senior member I would now pay £190 for a year's membership and there's a range of discounts available with rates for children and young adults being particularly attractive. Hardly elitist!
Tennis might be regarded by some as being all champagne and strawberries but imo it’s the most gladiatorial of all sports. There’s no quarter given on those courts especially if someone doesn’t have the crowd behind them.

Can't stand tennis. It is boring and very over rated and still full of snotty class snobbery. Have you ever seen a game of Padel. Much .more inclusive and exciting.
As for the yearly BBC overkill coverage of Wimbledon. Can they now ditch this and give us better value for the ever increasing in.price TV licence?
Do you play Padel? Quite a new sport, I believe. When it involves international tournaments, it probably will involve expense that only a few can afford.
I play social tennis at our local club, they have sessions for the local primary and secondary schools. They also have classes for ages 7+ subsidised by the LTA. The children get a free racquet and kit..
Hardly ‘snooty snobbery’.
So glad Serena got put out by a unknown! The arrogance of her...Knew she would either have an injury or come up with something to withdraw,to save face. She has had her day now time for both of them to move on and let younger ones play at that level. Both selfish to the core... Young Fery is amazing never heard of him till a few days ago. Zverev in semi though. Should be interesting. Not much intetest in the women tbh.

snotty class snobbery?🤷♀️
Can you explain in greater detail?
Do you they mean “elitist” It’s a very expensive sport to take up once you start competing, big pockets and sponsors needed for many.
But I know people from all walks of life who love to watch competing tennis well played.
My favourite thing after Wimbledon ends is seeing all the “would be” tennis players in all our local park and council tennis courts.

Im another one who loves Wimbledon fortnight. I think Fery comes over very well when he's interviewed.
Me too, not in the slightest arrogant?
I wonder if the smaller players have an advantage over the bigger ones ( and the players seem to be getting bigger and bigger) in this extreme heat. Heavyweight boxers have to conserve their energy I think.

It was an amazing achievement for someone as young as Fery to have such poise and confidence. Hopefully he will go far, maybe not this year.
Anyone remember when Boris bounced into Wimbledon as a teenager? There was confidence. Those of you who decry the skills of Djokovic should remember what he has achieved over the years. I do not see arrogance but confidence. He would not have achieved all his success without it.
I love Wimbledon, used to go regularly in my youth and paid a fortune for a seat at the men’s final a few years ago. Tennis can be so exciting, it is a truly skilful sport
I thoroughly enjoyed the game, remarkable.

MayBee70 Did you notice the Queen looked quite emotional too? I used to be a very keen club player until injury stopped me playing but you didn't need to be a player to see how exceptional Fery was in this match. He was amazing and seeing someone rise to a great occasion and be the best they could be was, IMO, truly inspiring. I loved every minute of his game.

I’m not so keen on football and find cricket extremely boring. Football dominates our tv and media week in, week out.
Wimbledon is our major tennis tournament and it’s two weeks once a year.
It’s ok not to like it, but don’t diss us who look forward to Wimbledon every year.
For me, it’s triggers lovely memories of watching it with my DM who died in 2022.
There are lots of things I'm not a fan of. And I'm only a once a year fan of tennis. But even as a complete ignoramus when it comes to the sport I realised I was watching something truly brilliant. And I must admit to having a tear in my eye at the end, something that catches me by surprise sometimes and it usually means I've seen something really special.

She's a joke, always injured one hit wonder, there will never be the likes again as Evert, King Wade
Gosh, have you watched the best women players in this century, your players all retired in the 80's. Women players have much stronger games now , they are fitter, technically better and no longer rely on the serve baseline play that was sooooo boring!
I was on the edge of my seat, Fery played a fantastic game, his work ethic and speed is amazing and he's got the whole package despite his size. I'm definitely going to watch his semi. Go Fery!

Great game and result!
I was flicking between the channels and the two matches were very similar.
I like Zverev and think he will be a more difficult opponent for Fery, could be a very close match.

Are you talking about Emma Raducanu?
She’s hardly a one hit wonder! She’s only 23 and plenty of sports men and woman miss time playing due to injuries.
Emma reached the finals just two weeks ago at Queens, and she’s our no. Female player atm.
At 23 she’s already won $6m+.
I would not call her a “waste of space”
As for your assertions about there never being the likes of Evert, Wade & King, (you missed out Navratilova) I think the Williams sisters have outplayed the three you’ve mentioned.
Well that was quick! I see Zverev won as well. He’s another I don’t care for. He has a nasty temper.
Poor Flávio😢 Not a happy day for the Italians as Paolini went out as well.
What a match! Such talent. Can’t wait for the semi.
