Any tennis fans? Especially Wimbledon?

Sad to see our female number one not competing due to injury! Emma R did so well at Queens.

Still, this week we do have a number of Brits and a good few wildcards.

Will you be watching and who are you supporting?

I’ll def be watching all our girls and boys and the Williams Sisters who are playing (as wild cards) in the doubles.

Might have to turn off the volume if there is too much “grunting” on court, drives me nuts!

^How anyone can say tennis is boring is beyond me^

Well, this match certainly isn’t!! 🎾🎾 😂

It sure isn’t. Although I’m not a fan the same can be said for the Djokovic game last night.

Withnobsonit I don’t watch Eastenders, Strictly and the like. Wimbledon fortnight is the only time I feel I get anything for my license fee

WithNobsOnIt the thread title is Anyone for tennis? Obviously you’re not but I think us tennis fans are entitled to enjoy it. It’s only 2 weeks in the year.

I’m going to be torn watching this one! I love Cobolli but feel un-patriotic if I don’t root for Fery. May the best man win, I guess! 🎾 🇬🇧 🇮🇹

I am the same 🎾

Grandmadinosaur Wed 08-Jul-26 16:53:52

Yes he’s racing through it.

merlotgran Wed 08-Jul-26 16:51:13

Wow! Fery. Doing great!!

jakuss Wed 08-Jul-26 16:34:53

She's a joke, always injured one hit wonder, there will never be the likes again as Evert, King Wade

WithNobsOnIt Wed 08-Jul-26 16:01:40

Can't stand tennis. It is boring and very over rated and still full of snotty class snobbery. Have you ever seen a game of Padel. Much .more inclusive and exciting.

As for the yearly BBC overkill coverage of Wimbledon. Can they now ditch this and give us better value for the ever increasing in.price TV licence?

DamaskRose Wed 08-Jul-26 15:15:51

I haven’t watched a Djokovic match for years, can’t stand his arrogance and gamemanship. Will definitely be behind Sinner. Fery too has a bit of arrogance about him and I do like Cobolli but I should really support the Brit ….

merlotgran Wed 08-Jul-26 15:14:46

I agree. I won’t be too heartbroken if Fery loses to Cobolli but it would be fantastic if he wins.

nanaK54 Wed 08-Jul-26 15:14:33

'ere we go!

I’m also settling into a tennis afternoon. Tesco have just delivered so it’ll be cold drinks and a choc ice to keep me going.
I see Queen Camilla is in the royal box. Good Luck Arthur!!

I agree re the toilet breaks bridie54

Grandmadinosaur Wed 08-Jul-26 14:47:30

playing

Grandmadinosaur Wed 08-Jul-26 14:47:15

I am also no fan of Djokovic and his losing to the crowd I was so wanting his opponent to win last night. Not to be but he has a tough game against Sinner next.

Currently one eye watching Paolini whilst doing paperwork. I like her but not to be.

bridie54 Wed 08-Jul-26 14:18:34

Just sat down for my tennis afternoon and my match of choice is Jasmine Paolini v Kostyuk (marta ?)
Paolini is just a delight to watch.

Re some of the current behaviours, I think some players use ‘comfort breaks’ very tactically. . Of course.
Also I’m not in favour of players being able to get coaches advice during a match. Surely, as a player at that level, they should be able to decide for themselves to how to play the match.

Greenfinch Wed 08-Jul-26 10:44:57

Bellasnana I totally agree with what you say about Djokovic. Also I tend to favour players according to their personalities and gamesmanship rather than their nationality and so was upset when Dimitrov lost.

Smileless2012 Wed 08-Jul-26 10:39:59

I just can't stand to watch him Bellasnana, yes he's brilliant but his arrogance is second to none and when in a difficult match, he always takes a medical time out.

Bellasnana Wed 08-Jul-26 10:35:20

Djokovic is undoubtedly an incredible athlete but I can’t help but find his huge ego and haughty manner obnoxious. Also his ‘tactics’. Medical time out for his foot then continues to prance about the court like a gazelle for several hours. I was so disappointed Felix didn’t get the win.☹️
