Applying make-up

I'm a complete make-up junkie and don't feel dressed without it - plus my 'au naturel' eyes disappear behind the old varifocals these days! My current faves are:-
The new Estee Lauder mascara - Double Wear Volume & Lift. It stays put all day
Cream blusher - looks better on older skin. I like Bobbi Brown's
Too Faced Naked Eye palette - lovely muted, non frosty colours
Touche Eclat - never leave home without it
Transparent lipstick - gives a much lighter but not over glossy finish

Fellow Gransnetters might want to get some tips from lisaeldridge.com. She does some great anti-ageing makeup videos with all the products listed. I just want to look like myself - only better - and Lisa's site has some very natural looks.

Yes keeping makeup up to date is tricky. There is nothing more ageing than someone wearing exactly the same makeup they have been wearing for decades.
Do you remember the wonderful Lesley Joseph meets Trinny and Susannah programme. She resisted the change in makeup at the time but i saw her a year later and she had taken it on board. (I couldn't believe that she looked like Dorian in everyday life. That was a great series wasn't it) . There are probably a number of other time-warp makeup examples in the media. Joan Collins maybe? Glam or fossilised?

Have to confess that when younger, early 20's, I adored false eyelashes.

Elizabeth Arden navy blue eyeliner defined the '60s for me!

Moisturiser every day. Winter brings on the foundation, blusher and eye make up. Not a lot, you understand BUT I have real problems finding a decent mascara. It always ends up all over my eyes (behind my specs) and I end up looking as if I have been crying or like a panda. I have wasted so many ££. I now use vaseline to define lashes (what's left of them) but would like to know of a decent mascara in brown/black. Can anyone suggest one please

I use a Clinique mascara mrshat that I like. I wear glasses so cannot wear a "lash lengthener" mascara and the Clinique one gives good coverage without added length

I use the Clinique high lengths mascara [although with my sparse lashes it doesn't do much except add a bit of colour]' Got a funny curved wand that is good for bottom lashes [not that I've got many of those, either].

I work on the less is more premise (but then have done since I was 20). Use Nivea Visage, tinted moisturiser available in Tesco about a fiver. It really is light reflecting and gives a lovely glow. And Touche Eclat, touch of dark brown eyeliner, lashings of mascara, a brownish lipliner infilled with a little No. 7 neutral gloss. No blusher, but keep eyebrows professional shaped, and neatened with a little brush. And this is day or night make-up, but use a darker lippy at night.That's me done, I'm off out for the day!!! (or night!)

I saw an advert for what appeared to be temporary eye 'tatoos' for shadowing your eyes. Avon in the USA does them but not Avon UK. I bought some online and also some eyemajic instant eye shadows and actually they are surprisingly good. I especially like the eyemajic product as it gives the smokey eye effect I have never managed to achieve using conventional shadow. They are quite expensive so I wouldn't use them every day but good for special occasions.

Cotton buds and those little sticks with sponge tips are the kit for correcting mascara and other makeup mistakes.

I met a woman the other day after one of my talks on cancer; she had just finished chemo and we were discussing the whole hair loss thing, especially how awful it is to lose your eyebrows and lashes. (I know lots of you will identify with that!) Then I noticed her eyebrows, which were beautiful. She told me they were semi permanent tattoos. Has anyone tried this? I was SO impressed!

I have a friend who has had this done. I thought it looked a bit odd but she was delighted with the results. She had them done in two stage, first one was very faint then the second one made them more definite. Apparently they last for months. To be honest - after seeing them - I'm not tempted, although if I had no eyebrows at all I'd probably think differently

I am certainly one of the make-up brigade, and have always felt sorry for men, who can't do much to improve their looks (or the older ones, anyway - my dear hubby in particular). I have had to go for cheaper lines recently, as on a fixed income, but still find the cash for Estee Lauder foundation - goes on like a dream and looks good all day. If I win a prize on the premium bonds (sadly reduced to £25 now) this is where the money goes! Have a lot of Bobbi Brown in my drawer from the days when I worked, she makes superb products which do last for a long time.
My daughter gave me Neal's Yard for Christmas, but sadly it doesn't suit my skin and I have had to give up on it - it is a lovely smell!
I've used moisturiser since the age of 11, just wouldn't feel right without it.
We live in Cornwall, so any chance I get to browse the beauty hall at John Lewis, I love to do it.

This morning I sorted out a lot of my make-up time for a revamp I think. Off the boots with my boots card to spend my points !

My favourite - getting something "for nothing"!!

My favourite mascara in the last few years was Rimmels Magnif'Eyes, which had a curling effect, but sadly they have discontinued it. Their Volume Flash is pretty good, and not expensive.

If I am not going to work, generally speaking I dont bothe with make-up, if I'm in the office it's just the eyes (liner, shadow, [often 2 shades] and mascara).

Meeting with clients or special event, then full metal jacket. (See post on "I have been to school" thread for explanation)

another tesco barbara daly product I have taken to is the liquid eyeliner pen in brown. You can do a really fine line with it and build up the colour or not.
Eyebrow pencil products anyone? There used to be a nice one with greyish goop at one end and gel at the other. discontinued.
I had a greyish clinique propelling pencil which was great but not good value as it did not last long. I have a number 7 propelling pencil thing at the moment that is ok but not wonderful. I never used to wear eyebrow makeup but as they start to fade ... It stops them disappearing completely under my overgrown fringe and helps to raise the focal point of face away from saggy lower section.
Recommenations anyone?

I use Elizabeth Arden brow shaper in a very light colour.

I am currently using Liz Earle's tinted moisturiser, but have decided that I prefer the Clinique one which is more fluid and easier to apply. The Liz one has a stiffer consistency.Thanks to JessM I now use the Barbara Daly cream blusher and find it very effective and costs very little.

I always wear make-up Clinique or if I can afford it Sisley for foundation and lipstick. Almay mascara my eyes have got sensitive . Nivea Cream for night have used it since I was 16 am now 69 nothing else will do. x magnifying mirror as cant see without my specs!!! Also have facial manicure pedicure & eyebrows done every 4-5 weeks.

ALMAY for sensitive eyes also if mascara gets runny put into fridge for hour or so
