Thank you to everyone for your help. I feel inspired for my shopping trip.

We've got off track again.
A dress for under £100.
How about trying the charity shops.Often have lovely evening and bridal wear that has had very little wear. The St Peter's hospice shop in Nailsea (SW) is locally nicknamed 'Harrods'.
They are more pricey than other charity shops but often have designer clothes.

Herefordshire is heaven as far as I am concerned - every time I go on holiday I can't wait to get back - truly, nothing compares!

Hello absent, what news? Has your new GC arrived safely?

absentgrana Sat 31-Mar-12 22:03:50

Not so much of the only glass grin Right now I am in Richmond, South Island, New Zealand - about as far away from the UK as it is possible to get without starting to come back.

HildaW Sat 31-Mar-12 19:02:58

Hello Mishap, yes it is weve only been in this house 18 months and the general area 3 years but its so lovely and green and peaceful compared to the dreaded Thames Valley.

Mishap Sat 31-Mar-12 18:44:01

Hello HildaW - I too live in the wilds of Herefordshire - what a great place it truly is!!

HildaW Sat 31-Mar-12 18:27:56

flowerfriend, I too needed a dress and as I live in the wilds of Herefordshire I dont get much chance to window shop so I browsed John Lewis website to get an idea about what is about. Once I'd narrowed it down a bit I then went to that shop's website to see their whole range. Off the top of my head Phase eight, East, Coast and Kaliko had some nice ones under £100. Good luck.

I expect to get a complete outfit for less than £100! But I shop mainly at Bonmarche.

Mishap Sat 31-Mar-12 18:07:08

£100!!!! - I have never in my whole life spent anything near that amount on a garment and could not even think of doing so! So it must be possible to get a dress for under £100 or I would be running around in my undies!

Greatnan, we have a house in Fran and | too wonder where the French got their reputation for style.

I think it arises because in Paris and other big cities a very thin layer of well off people do dress very well - and expensively. Some years ago my daughter was an avid reader of Vogue, French and British versions, and we used to comment that in the pictures at the back of the magazine of high society social events awash with the aristocratic ladies, the French women were always beautifully dressed and groomed and the British aristos always looked as if they had just finished washing the dogs.

Annobel Sat 31-Mar-12 12:09:24

That's where my GD takes me, Greatnan. She is my style guide and is rarely wrong- the least effective wedding outfits were bought without her help. She is threatening to take me shopping again and I will have to hang on to my credit card as she wants some summer clothes for herself.

Greatnan Sat 31-Mar-12 11:45:47

I am looking for an outfit for a grandson's wedding and I will also be buying when I am in England. I don't know why the French have got the reputation of being stylish - I wouldn't buy anything I see here!
I will be going to the Trafford Centre in Manchester with my sister, as there are so many different outlets with dresses at all prices.

Have you looked at Principles, Next, M and S, Hobbs - they are all online and have some very stylish dresses. Debenhams, John Lewis and Selfridges have lots of designer/high street dresses that are well cut and stylish for much less than £100. Hope you find what you want.

flowerfriend Sat 31-Mar-12 08:59:07

I hardly ever wear dresses. I am actually quite feminine STILL - just. But I am feeling the need for a dress now. Not too dressy - not too low cut and as you can see from above not too expensive. I live in SW France and its hopeless for affordable clothes for me but I am off to the UK next week to visit DS3 and family and to celebrate my 65th birthday. Hence the need for a nice dress. HELP please.
