Clothes help needed for a very short lady

Like kissing a lot of frogs before you find a prince.

The trouble with TK Max is that to find anything worthwhile you have to sift through a lot of dross. I have a very good waterproof jacket that I bought a good six years ago and it's still in one piece and waterproof. The other big drawback of this store is their sizing which I completely fail to understand.

micelf I am glad someone else shares my views on TK Maxx. I can never be bothered with the place. I bought one blouse when they first opened. After one wash the fabric went completely limp. I now wear it for painting the house.

A dreadful place IMO.

I took my lovely mother in law to the shops this morning, having done lots of online research first. We bought the first outfit I picked for her to try on; lovely shift dress with matching bolero- it looks so stunning on her that we were both quite emotional. Well, I'm the same height although my problem is being short waisted. In that case she probably needs to wear separates but these ranges will fit on the shoulders which is one of the problems with 'normal' sizing. There is also Top Shop petite range and some of the items may fit, they are very small, but they do tend to be young styles. If there is a problem with waist and hips not fitting look for either a dropped waist or an empire line dress. I got a lovely Fenn Wright Manson dress last autumn with a vee neck, and an under the bust seaming which is lovely and would avoid that problem.

Or of course, you could get out the old sewing machine...

Unfortunately although these are 'petite' ranges, they mostly offer fitted dresses which just don't 'fit' my mother in law and she is very short in the leg which means that the waist and hips on dresses are in the wrong places.

Prècis Petite, Minuet, Principles Petite are good, and Phase 8 come up small too. For trousers M&S size 8 Short should fit. Next do a petite range too, but not always very stylish. For skirts it's possible to find 'mini' skirts that are actually just below the knee. I got a lovely black pleated one from Debenhams recently. And there's always TKMaxx if you can bear looking through racks of rubbish to find the gems. I've found Calvin Klein dresses there that fit perfectly in very small sizes. And a quarter of their original cost.
