Home remedy for thin or fine hair

Boots probably. My friend, who cuts my hair said there was not much you can do. My hair is thinning now I'm over 70. I might try the Epsom Salts but be careful not to swallow any rinsing water than runs down my face.

Where do you get epsoms salts haven't seen it for years?

just to add I was always blessed with thick hair - even in parts of the body where it would not be desired nowadays when 'hairfree' even on arms seems to be the norm. Anyway I digress, given a family history of low thyroid function (hypothyroidism) and feeling excessively tired most of the time I eventually convinced my GP that my borderline low thyroid function could be the cause as well as elevating my cholesterol.
the upshot of this is I am now on a fairly low regular dose of thyroxine and my energy has improved and new shorter hairs have sprouted on my head (grey unfortunately) which hopefully will eventually catch up with the rest and thicken my mop

Of course you could always try chicken manure!! There was a bit of a thing about it quite a few years ago. Never heard if it worked!

Some of us have had thin hair all our lives. I don't think mine is thinning further – otherwise I'd probably be bald by now – but it is very fine and there simply isn't much of it. Of course, a good cut disguises many things.

glamma Just looked up sea kelp and it is a good source of iodine, which is related to thyroid function. An underactive thyroid can lead to thinning hair, so perhaps that's why the sea kelp helps.

Agree with Jess that applying something to your hair is only going to disguise the problem not cure it, and AbsentIi have to say I'd much rather eat the avocado and drink the coconut milk

You're absolutely right there Faye. Things may coat individual hairs and make them behave or look less like very fine hair, but they are not going to make those hair follicles come back to life once they have shut up shop.

Stress can lead to some temporary thinning/receding, so relaxation practice might help...

I have always used sea kelp as a suppliment and noticed the difference in my hair when I forgot to renew my supply.
For hair thickening shampoo's/conditioners you cannot beat Umberto Giannai products I only buy when on special offer though as rather expensive,but then you do pay for what you get.

Sea kelp it really helps my hair and nails

Way back when my hair was still dark brown, I'd always put a good dash vinegar in my final rinse water, gave it a lovely shine (in the days when the final rinse was with a plastic jug over the bath!). Perhaps they mean adding cider vinegar in the rinsing water? I'd give it a go if I had oily hair.

I'm not sure about the tip for oily hair, Grannyknot! Apply a mixture of epsom salts and shampoo to dry hair, leave for 20 minutes and rinse off with cider vinegar?

Another home treatment is to mash 1/2 avocado until smooth, then stir in 4 tablespoons canned coconut milk. Apply the mixture to your hair, comb it through and leave for 15 minutes before rinsing well.
