A book called 'Advanced Style' by Ari Seth Cohen was published last year. I immediately bought it, although, at just approaching 70 I am a bit young for it, most of his photographs are of the 80 +.

The joy of it is that it tosses the idea of age appropriate clothing into a hand basket and says wear what you like but do it with style. It is as much about being confident as anything, granny activist says it all in her second posting.

And Bags , it is not about him changing the youth culture, but of us taking his message and going out into the world with confidence and heads high and refusing to be ignored, brushed aside or dismissed and changing the culture for ourselves. EmbraceAge!!!

I still feel 25 yrs old but the mirror tells me I'm not.

GD and her half brother used, when they were younger, to refer to me as the 'golden oldie'. However, now, when I talk about getting older, she quite fiercely tells me, 'You're not old, granny.' Rose coloured specs, methinks.

Can't they just, rosiebee!! Concentrate the mind, I mean. "Gather he rosebuds while ye may" and all that.

My DGS often refers to DH and I as 'the old people'. Affectionately I hope!
But he looked a bit put out when I pointed out that these 'old people' were the ones going on holiday while he was still in school and generally doing what they want to do and when they want to do it.
I try to look reasonably well turned out, maybe a bit quirky at times, but not enough to frighten the horses. After that I'd rather concentrate on what I'm doing or who I'm with. A couple of really scary health scares regarding DH , if you see what I mean, can concentrate the mind wonderfully on the important things in life.

I would love to be brave enough to have my hair dyed red I've always wanted red hair but have never had the confidence to do it.

Achieving old age is great - I love the fact that we still have friends we have grown old with - lucky us! but even more, I like that fact that we mix we quite a few people who are younger, and they seem to have an affection for the fact that we are older, and can still enjoy our lives. LullyDully, you may be the baby-boomers, but look around at the 70/80/90 year olds who provided the baby-boom! We are still in there.

Why should we do anything? I am just getting on with my life. It doesn't matter a jot to me if people call me old. What else would you call somebody of 72? I don't think anybody has ever made assumptions about me because of my age. One or two men did because of my gender - they regretted it.

I guess if you had bright red hair you would have to wear the full works makeup to go with it. Wouldn't work for me. Can't be bothered.

We are the baby boomers {many of us.} We are a large group and are healthier than our parents mainly. So we need to be as active politically as we were in our youth. Not sure what I could do but do feel something should be done. I think dressing bright is a good thing. When I was in Spain I dressed brightly and felt visible. Now at home back to my favourite black with a bright scarf.

Half of my walk this morning was rained off - it poured - so dived into a friends house for coffee. As it happens we chatted about the aging process and how it's presented in the media!

I agree, which is why I wondered about the thread title.

Bags I have no objection whatsoever to either the word 'old' or even less, the concept of 'getting old' - it's happening and I don't give a hoot. This chap expresses beautifully what I feel about ageing; I'd quite like to adopt him, he'd be fun to have around I think.

I love the old lady at the end of the article, with the yellow patterned dress under the brown puffer coat. I want to look just like her when I'm 102 .

It's funny, earlier this week when I was at the hairdressers having a trim, a woman was having her hair coloured bright red and I thought, I wonder....

I hope this guy seeking older models begins to change the stupid youth culture attitudes that dominate nowadays.

I'm old and it doesn't bother me at all. Mind you, my daughter has jokingly (I hope) called me 'Old Woman' for years.
I know there are some women who are great-grand-mothers at a much younger age than I am. Oddly enough, being a great, great aunt to my nieces grandchildren sounds older than great grandmother.

She's old, ga! Who are you kidding? The point is she's old and proud of it.

Wish people would get over the word old and stop objecting to it. I think I need to start an "Old Pride" movement.

I'm perfectly happy to be "getting older" and when people use old to describe me I shall smile.
