A recent article suggested that a Brazilian or Hollywood is the norm. Is this true for older ladies? Has this been discussed before?

My Nanny used to hold her stockings up with threepenny bits. She would lift her skirt and give us a threepenny bit to get some sweets.

Corset pink! So distinctive. I suppose it was meant to be flesh coloured.

My granny had matching directoire knickers in that lovely salmon pink shade as well!

Deedaa Sat 14-Dec-13 21:08:16

I used to be fascinated by the corsets when I was little Galen All those laces! Once laced up you must have been trapped in them for days. And why were they that weird pink?

Flowerofthewest Sat 14-Dec-13 15:04:46

Oops, thought I may have, matching colanders maybe grin at least I am consistent. smile

Flower You have posted these two stories on Gransnet before. Although my memory resembles a colander more than a sieve, the images they conjure up have remained with me and are, no doubt embedded forever grin. It's the way you tell 'em.

My sister's friend once, when going for a check with the Dr., sprayed her 'garden' with feminine deodorant. She had mistaken her daughter's glitter hair spray. Dr's comment "Thank you for making the effort!" grin

Another went for a smear and the nurse picked up a pair of tweezers and plucked a 1st class stamp from her 'bits' Goodness knows how it got there. The mind boggles.

Deedaa grin

Did she have the pink lace up and clasp in front corsets my gran had as well?

The only person I have known to wear "panties" is my mother in law. Anything less like panties than the vast white cotton garments that adorn her nether regions would be hard to imagine. I presume there must have been a time when panties were daring and modern. Probably shortly after the days of the pink directoire knickers so beloved of my grandmother! Never mind a lady garden - you could have hidden Birnam Wood and the three w2itches inside those things tchgrin

yourusername123. I haven't noticed your name before. Have you just joined today?

Soutra Fri 13-Dec-13 22:18:59

It's like I can hear a Christmas song that starts
"Dashing through the snow.
In a one-horse open sleigh........."tchconfused

Galen Fri 13-Dec-13 22:12:59

A ring of roses?

Marelli Fri 13-Dec-13 21:52:25

Quite a 'number' of roses....?

Elegran Fri 13-Dec-13 21:45:40

I smelt roses too. Coincidence?

Lona Fri 13-Dec-13 21:45:02

I agree Ana

Ana Fri 13-Dec-13 21:18:17

I wish, Galen....but I think you're mistaken.

Galen Fri 13-Dec-13 20:44:31

Am I getting a 'Rosey' feeling?

yourusername123 Fri 13-Dec-13 20:38:39

Can't imagine MiceElf.

yourusername123 Fri 13-Dec-13 20:36:55

Of course it was ok for people to join in. It was an enjoyable thread at the time. smile

MiceElf Fri 13-Dec-13 20:36:14

Why do I get that déjà vu feeling?

yourusername123 Fri 13-Dec-13 20:33:28

Soutra! Didn't you see the wink? That was meant to show I didn't really mean it. Joking.

Ana Fri 13-Dec-13 19:44:28

Tetchy tonight, Soutra!

I suspect that panties is an Americanism to distinguish undergarments from pants (trousers). I don't think I have ever actually described my knickers as panties, not least because it sounds so juvenile, but I'm not offended by the word.

Soutra Fri 13-Dec-13 19:35:34

Oh sorry, Ana I had formed the (clearly erroneous) impression that the majority of posts were informed and that GN enjoyed a refreshingly high standard of discussion. "Jokes" thread is fun, "Soop's ktchen "warm and friendly, but standards are still standards- No? I stand corrected.
