How to get make up stains out of clothes

Worked on yachts I remember,except we used gaffer tape?

I seem to remember a sort of saying along the lines of "if it doesn't move and it should, then use WD40. If it moves, and it shouldn't, use duct tape"

Reminds me. My sil noticed my wd40 was priced in shillings and pence! still works though!

At the risk of sounding like a completely anal retentive type person, I don't put on foundation (currently only using BB type stuff anyway) until after I've dressed.

Surgical spirit is also good for stain removal. If you get lipstick on clothes, blot with surgical spirit, then wash in the usual way. Alternatively, try using acetone-based nail polish remover on white clothing. (Do not use on coloured items.)

Blot up greasy [make-up] stains, then sprinkle with talcum powder, bicarbonate of soda or cornflour and leave for 30–40 minutes before brushing gently with a soft brush. If the stain is still greasy, repeat the process. Next squirt washing-up liquid on the stain, brush it in and leave for 2–3 minute. Soak the garment in hot water for 30 minutes before washing in the usual way.

Btw, WD40 is very efficient at removing play dough from children's clothes.

Does WD40 work on grease stains please.

And if you spray the WD40 while wearing the garment might it help the odd stiff joint or two?

I have had success with stains that have remained after washing with Fairy Green Bar Soap. I damp the stain and rub the soap in, then I leave the article to dry once dry pop it back in the machine wash and fingers crossed it has come out.

I find that the White Wizard paste sold by Lakeland is brilliant stuff and I've had great results with it. Mud and grass stains are a bit of a b though.

The worst things I ever had to wash were DS2's grass-stained cricket whites. I never quite got them as pristine as I'd have liked, despite spending time and energy on them.

What a find,I wish I had known that as a few weeks ago before the nice weather DGS5 had his football shirt badly stained when playing on a rainy day and mud was all up the back and side, needless to say it was mostly on the white part and even to this day it still looks grey,a definate football kit must have I think.

I'll keep it in mind - WD40 is something we always have in the house!

In a previous existence I worked for Jaeger. In the fitting rooms we supplied head scarves that you could gingerly hold over your face as you tried on something that went over your head....its a bit of a fiddle but worth it for those occasions you have full war paint on and are aiming to wear something special.

That will go on my shopping list, Ruthdpl. What a useful tip. I have found that rubbing vigorously with a Vanish bar is an effective remedy even for tomato stains on t-shirts.

Worth remembering, thanks for the tip, have added it to my notebook for handy hints! I always use lighter fuel for stains and sticky stuff.
