Surgical spirit is also good for stain removal. If you get lipstick on clothes, blot with surgical spirit, then wash in the usual way. Alternatively, try using acetone-based nail polish remover on white clothing. (Do not use on coloured items.)
Blot up greasy [make-up] stains, then sprinkle with talcum powder, bicarbonate of soda or cornflour and leave for 30–40 minutes before brushing gently with a soft brush. If the stain is still greasy, repeat the process. Next squirt washing-up liquid on the stain, brush it in and leave for 2–3 minute. Soak the garment in hot water for 30 minutes before washing in the usual way.
Btw, WD40 is very efficient at removing play dough from children's clothes.
