Favourite shops?

Hi I am just interested to know which are your fave shops for clothes in England.
I now live in New Zealand but tend to buy most of my clothes if and when we visit the rellies in UK. This year the only places I bought from were Gap and Wallis. I am 55, fairly tall and love colour, have always said I will never join the beige brigade but am finding it increasingly hard to find nice casual stuff. I like Gap styles and colour for tops and cardies but think the quality is pretty tatty and Wallis was good for smarter tops, great to see some sleeves finally! Otherwise nothing that I liked or more importantly fitted! M and S have the quality but seem to be way out in their designs, not sure who they are trying to aim their stuff at. Casual dresses for summer, where do you go for those?
Most dresses seem a bit short for me, my knees are best kept under wraps!
Look forward to your tips and suggestionssmile

If you love colour East is the shop for you. They use a lot of natural fibres too. I love the place x

I buy colourful separates from Kettlewell. They are really well made and fairly classic. They are available on line. Boden is good too.

East, and if there is a John Lewis near to where you're staying they have a large selection that includes most major brands. I find Mint Velvet fits, and like lots of the styles. I'm 5. 8" and find things are long enough for me.

Yes, well, given the dismal choice in NZ I can see why you come over with an empty suitcase and do your shopping here.grin But it has other compensations doesn't it.
The brand White Stuff, that has shops and is in John Lewis, if you like patterned colour maybe.
I like Zara because it does not do the same clothes as the other UK stores (its Spanish) but they do seem to do more neutrals than colours.
This last season in UK seems to have been dominated by very bright colours.

Managed to buy my outfit for Godson's wedding in Next yesterday so they are my number one favourite at the moment. I am over wide and over tall so most impressed and pleasantly surprised.

Monsoon clothes are bright but not particularly cheap!

FlicketyB Sun 25-Aug-13 13:41:17

Currently Next, Monsoon, Fat Face and Sainsburies

Nonny Sun 25-Aug-13 13:51:41

I sometimes find things I like in Principles and Next. Monsoon must only aim at giants as I find everything there is far too long- I am 5 foot 1inch tall. Trying to shorten dresses and trousers often spoils the line so I dont bother to look there now.

Uniqlo. Great for all the basics that M&S used to do. They currently have fab little light-as-a-feather autumn jackets in wonderful colours.

YankeeGran I like Uniqlo too.
FatFace and Toast, though Toast is expensive and I wait for the sales!

As I`ve mentioned before, most of my clothes come from Bonmarche, mainly skirts and tops, if I had the money I could really go to town buying their tops!

Definitely East - their clothes are lovely. I do like Monsoon, but they are expensive. I always try to buy at sale prices though wherever I shop for clothes.

Personally I am in love with charity shops. Half my wardrobe comes from these - but they are hit and miss.

Nonu Sun 25-Aug-13 20:14:15

Yankee don"t you be starting me on charities , love "em to bits !

How did you pick your name? Are you in USA a lot ?

I like East for jewellery. They have some lovely stuff and it's always reasonably priced.

Nonu - I'm a Yank but have lived here for (whisper it) 40+ years. Children and grandchildren are here, so this is home.

I like to wear White Stuff and Fat Face mainly for casual but also love Boden for casual and dressy, add in M&S for jeggings (never anything but trousers and undies there).....sorted. I am 62 but think I'm younger grin

I am not a standard size (is anyone??) but some shops do cater for large petites and those are the ones I use!
