Pink makes larger ladies [me] look like a rather wobbly blancmange.

I don't know a lot about the price of silk chiffon, absent. Correction: I don't know a bloody thing about the price of silk chiffon. I think you are right though and it's synthetic, in which case, however pretty it is, I'm afraid my verdict would be Yuck. The 'feel' of my clothes is as important as the look. I couldn't wear even the most desirable-looking garment if it felt icky, as synthetics do to me.

My ball gowns (yes, I did have several at one time cos I went to lots of balls) were all cotton, some home-made, some bought, and all machine-washable. Laura Ashley was a good source before she died and the comapny lost its genius.

And as I wrote, the OP was deleted by HQ! GrannyKnot you were right.

I thought it was just me! I refrained from saying anything earlier, but agree with most of you, especially the "mutton dressed as lamb" bit. And if it is polyester as well, as seems likely, that is worse. Anyway, I have a ball dress. Whether I could actually get into it any more is another matter.

Neither of my GD would dream of wearing that soppy shade of shell pink, prom or no prom!

Grandmanorm Thu 19-Dec-13 10:42:19

I agree with Grannyknot as the web site says Prom dresses.
I think the majority of us are past that.
Apologies if some aren't!!!!!

Methinks this is an ad for the website that sells those dresses ...:P

thatbags I shouldn't think it's silk chiffon at that price. It doesn't look like it either but it's very hard to tell just from a photograph, although the price is something of a clue.

It's quite pretty but I wouldn't want to wear that unappealing shade of pink in the photograph. However, I am unlikely to be attending any formal occasions – let alone a prom – in the forseeable future, so it's definitely not for me.

Are you new, angleli ? I have not seen your username before? If you can wear that dress without wanting to hide your upper arms, and you don't keep tripping over it, then you must be one of our younger grandmothers.

janeainsworth Thu 19-Dec-13 09:39:36

It's certainly a beautiful dress, but I'm afraid it comes into my personal mutton-dressed-as-lamb category sad
I rather think my 'prom' days are over.

With my figure, I can dream!

Would catch in the wheels of my scooter!

thatbags Thu 19-Dec-13 08:22:02

Nightmare to walk in! I'd trip up.

When they say chiffon, do they mean silk or something synthetic?
