garden centre soaps

a few years ago I started buying the slices of soap [mainly sold in garden centre gift shops] they come in a lovely variety of scents and colours, and that was what I liked [oooh! my hands smell of rhubarb!]However, I have found that since that time, I hardly ever use hand lotion, maybe once a week, whereas before I had used it every day in Winter. Got to be a connection, so they must have lots of glycerine in them?I cut each bar in half and use it that way. Lasts and lasts. The unused half goes in the airing cupboard until I want it, and keeps moths and spiders at bay.

Are you allowed to name names? I can be a bit slow at hints!! PS when I saw the thread my first thought was that it was a new TV series blush

Soutra very good! I can see why you would be fooled.I can't name names [simply because I'm not sure if they have a name]They are laid out on a table in big bars with chunks [thick slices] already cut, and you pop what you want into the available bags.In the section where all the fancy bath bombs that look like cakes are. They are unwrapped. I have also seen them in any old giftshops, but they come wrapped there so you can't sniff before you buy.Go to any garden centre that also has a gift shop area, they sell them all over the place I believe. maybe somebody else can come up with a name for them?

I've seen some in a few Garden Centre's one of the best smelling one's was Grapefruit & Mango they did have a small label on them saying they where hand made but I don't remember there being anything else on the wrapping, georgous.I think you may be right about a higher glycerine content roses

I love soap that leaves a lingering smell after you've used it. Liquid soaps don't do that.

merlot Molton Brown's Rose Granita hand wash has a lovely scent that lasts and makes the bathroom smell nice.

I was getting all excited, I used to work for a large plant nursery and thought there was going to be a new TV series about working in a garden centre!

glammanana Fri 10-Jan-14 11:12:29

grin it would make good viewing though I'm sure.

janerowena Fri 10-Jan-14 11:18:28

I have a couple of friends who work in large GCs and it really would!

rosesarered Fri 10-Jan-14 11:45:41

Awww, so sorry to disappoint you janerowena!Never mind, seek out these 'soaps' instead. grin

janerowena Fri 10-Jan-14 11:54:08

They do sound good.

I can't use soap, unless it is hypoallergenic, so I keep the hand made soaps that people have given me in a big white shell dish in the main bathroom. They smell lovely.

Janerowena,I work in a plant nursery and although I would love to watch a series like that,I would be hiding under the benches if they were filming at my work,Camera shy !!!

janerowena Fri 10-Jan-14 14:24:47

I know what you mean - I worked in propagation for a tree and perennials nursery. They would sometimes bring round bands of WI ladies and I would always find a desperate need to go to the loo or go to take some cuttings!

merlotgran Fri 10-Jan-14 15:35:43

Lona, I googled Molton Brown's soaps....YIKES, the price shock

I'll take your word for the lovely smell. grin

I was given Jo Malone hand/body wash and matching soap for Christmas, but am reluctant to use them because they're just too nice! How cockeyed is that reasoning!

ninathenana Fri 10-Jan-14 16:23:22

* anno* sounds like my mum. When we cleared her house we found at least 15 sets of good brand soaps and other toiletries she'd obviously been given as gifts smile The local charity shop was delighted.

Don't save ANYTHING for a rainy day or a special occasion fellow Gnetters, don't want to darken the mood but now may be all the time we have!!I don't want my children to find cupboards full of 'best' things unused and unworn.I love all my 'stuff' wear it, use it, eat it, drink it, admire it etc.

annodomini Fri 10-Jan-14 17:36:41

Message received and understood, roses.

Although, saying the above, I do sometimes wish I had saved the posh toiletries for when guests come to stay!
