These dark mornings

I am expecting any day now, to get dressed up and then go out in my slippers, it's just waiting to happen.Yesterday [Saturday] my son rang, and I said ' oh, why are you at home on a Friday? are you having a work at home day?' He then panicked for a second, and double checked his calendar and said 'it's SATURDAY Mum, get a grip!' we both laughed a bit hysterically.

During a Christmas midnight Mass many years ago, my mother discovered she had gone to church in her slippers. As they were black she might have got away with it but for the fact she told all the family in a very loud stage whisper

Some years ago I came to London from South Africa for the first time with a friend who won a competition run by the British Tourism Association. We stayed in a smart hotel on Kensington High Street and coming back from a day out sightseeing, we stripped down to T-shirt (you know when you pull the bra off via an armhole) and knickers and jumped into bed (large hotel suite with a double bed each, pure luxury) for an afternoon lie down and relax, as two middle aged women might do.

No sooner had we dozed off when the fire alarm went off. We grabbed our handbags m(I think) but hurriedly made our way outside (we were on the 5th floor) only to discover - standing bare feet on the pavement on Kensington High Street on a cold and rainy day in our T-shirts and knickers - that we were the only hotel guests who actually followed instructions, everyone else was fully dressed. Some American tourists who had their video cameras on them, started filming.

The one good thing was - it had been a false alarm!

I once had a very near miss with a wardrobe malfunction.

I was setting off to pick some friends up and go out of a meal. For once I had a decided to wear a skirt, and as it was cold I had put a slip on and my winter coat.

As I was getting into the car, my coat fell open and I felt a very cold draft around my knees. The skirt was still in my bedroom!

I did own up to this and it provided a lot of amusement.

I managed to get half way to work one morning without my teeth. I only realised as I was shinging along to the radio and shounded all shoushy. Home to find them smiling at me, shiny clean, on the counter in the bathroom, then back to work - better late than Gumsy

Shy? Phoenix shy? Never!

Kiora I was just going to ask phoenix about the meetings, as the errr rather different [and deliberate in the case of the pj's but NOT deliberate for the other?] outfits left me wondering........ you do hear stories, etc.
of course any of us could forget we were holding a whip and handcuffs when we go out [especially if we are the police in South Africa.]It happens, I hear you cry merrily.Tell us more Phoenix and dont be shy!

I also did the slipper thing.I don't drive and I was walking down a long hill in Winter to the local shops. Thought my shoes were extra comfortable that day until I looked at my feet.Had a longer walk up the hill back home-didn't have the chutzpah to continue into town.

Phoenix please tell us what kind of meeting. The mind boggles. I'v seen T.V programmes on channel 4 late at night about those sort of meetings !

Odd shoes - one black and one navy, almost but not quite the same style; odd earrings - small studs, one dark blue ad the other dark green.
These did not occur on the same day, fortunately.

Last meeting of GN in Edinbirgh just before Christmas, I got home to find I had put my trousers on backside foremost must be forming a pattern I think.

I went to school and then tesco with my trousers on inside out after dressing in the dark.
Also have done brown/black shoe mix up at work, they were the same shoe but different colour.

My sister-in-law did the slippers thing...........at her daughter`s wedding! She didn`t realise till someone told her as she walked down the aisle, fortunately, they only lived 100 yards down the street from the church.

Odd earrings sometimes. And of course the classic 'yesterdays knickers working their way down the trouser' leg as I'm walking down the street . I found it very liberating when I decided that socks that didn't quite match were ok, even if they were the same colour but not a matching pair. Also worry sometimes [not having much in the way of eyelashes or eyebrows these days] that I might leave the house with only one eyebrow painted on.

I once went to a meeting in striped flannelette pyjamas but that was deliberate.

I went to another meeting wearing leather trousers, a gas mask and carrying a whip in one hand and a pair of handcuffs in the other.

At a work colleagues funeral we did notice that the Boss's wife was wearing one black boot and one brown one.

That would never happen to me - I can't drive in slippers!
I have done the shoes thing, though...

I once went straight to a business meeting from home, only to notice as I got out of the car that I was still wearing my slippers . Decided to make a joke of it and as I walked into the meeting said something along the lines of that as I intended to take as long as necessary for the meeting I thought I may as well be comfortable. Fortunately the people I was meeting all saw the funny side.

Oh, Grannyknot I thought I was the only person to ever done that. In my case one red shoe one brown. I only realised as the train drew into Paddington Station.

I managed to wear a black and white top with a navy suit for work one winter's morning. And it had to be the day we had important visitors too! It did not complement the suit at all

I noticed when I put the trousers on that I'd thought it was the navy suit that had the double fastening at the waist not the black one, but ignored myself and carried on. I was sixty miles away before I saw myself in daylight and realised I should have listened to my inner self.

LOL. Yes! I've gone to work before with one navy blue and one black court shoe on. And they were slightly different heel heights.
