Thank you all for so many good suggestions. We managed to find her a lovely loose top and trousers in JL and their hat person has even persuaded her into a very pretty fascinator. The drawback witj petite ranges is that they expect all short people to be thin as well grin. I have made a mental note to redouble my efforts to keep my weight and shape within reasonable bounds and not become a couch potato!

Country Casuals could be good as they do a petite range, and in fact their normal length tops are too short on me (I am only 5'5").

Phase Eight at Debenhams or elsewhere might be a thought as well. And Precis Petite.

My mother always headed for Country Casuals for wedding/special,occasion outfits and was always pleased with the choices on offer.

MrsJamJam hope that you have success with your shopping spree today, I like the Kasbah range glammanana, am tempted by the red linen top , myself. The Belladona range was lovely, I bought it for my DD's (2nd) wedding, & it has been great to wear for all sorts of occasions.

Gray and Osborn catalogue is good for occasion stuff.

My mum bought a Jacques Vert outfit for DD wedding. Mum was 80 at the time. They do up to a size 24 and do some lovely 'occasion wear' they can be found in John Lewis.

I like the look of lots of the box2 outfits, Joelise, but I have yet to convince Mother that she could wear trousers to a wedding! I'm taking her to John Lewis today so we'll look at what Eastex have to offer, though I would like to persuade her into a more loose and flowing mindset smile

Have a look on line at box2 www.box2 .co.uk they do silky flowing jackets ,trousers & skirts in sizes 16 - 30.

What kind of clothes does she normally like MrsJamJam?

What about something like this with silky trousers?

My own mother wore a longish silk edge to edge jacket over matching sleeveless top and silk trousers to my DD's wedding. She looked smart and felt comfortable.

My mother is a size 18 to 20 and only 5 foot tall. My father died three months ago and she is struggling to stay cheerful. Her granddaughter, my niece, is getting married this summer and I would like to help her get an outfit that would make her feel good. Price no a major issue within reason. Can anyone offer ideas about shops we might try?

We live in Devon and do have a good local dressmaker who can alter hemlines, sleeve lengths etc.
