I'm a size 20/22 and 5'5" tall and, with a mid thigh top, I don't look like humpty dumpty! I may even go out in them!grin

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 02-Oct-14 23:24:43

You sound like my husband. hmm

missdeke Thu 02-Oct-14 23:06:01

I can't abide leggings, anything, absolutely ANYTHING, with an elasticated waist is a no-no as far as I am concerned, they are just so uncomfortable. I wish they would bring back pjs with tie waists!!!

RuthKJones Thu 02-Oct-14 21:31:24

Right! I've resisted leggings for years - thought I was too old - but reading all your posts I'm going to bite the bullet and have a trying on session at M&S tomorrow! I need a change - if I look a bugger I'll blame you lot!

janerowena Thu 02-Oct-14 21:24:24

grin It could be? We could all go blue as a fashion statement. Blue wiggly tattoos - it could catch on. Then we won't notice when the real ones arrive.

rosesarered Thu 02-Oct-14 21:10:53

Ah! Thanks Ana that would explain it.Thought it was another fashion trend I had missed.

Ana Thu 02-Oct-14 20:59:20

Varicose veins.

rosesarered Thu 02-Oct-14 20:56:26

Will someone please tell me what is the meaning of all the 'blue' legs and feet????

rosesarered Thu 02-Oct-14 20:53:58

Just shows we are all different..... I hate the leggings/jeggings look, to me it always looks Max Wall [especially if the legs are on the thin side.]

Anne58 Thu 02-Oct-14 18:57:08

Ariadne have PM'd you! grin

Leggings are the greatest thing ever for updating a look but they must never be too thin for those aged over sixteen... M and S jeggings are good but the elastic waist should be covered as it is very cutty.....my favourite are by Oska but at £60 are they worth it? I would say yes as mine are going strong after six years and are beautifully soft...

I have been unwell with autoimmune problems for years and also find that leggings are easy to put on, unlike tights which I gave up years ago. I usually wear pumps as they give a neat look.

I also think layering looks good with leggings - longer top/shirt with shorter jumper/jacket/cardi....

Best advice my hairdresser gave me was to invest in chunky interesting jewellery. Mine is mostly silver and I have to say, it really does add interest.
And that is the key to looking good, I think - look interesting. Needless to say, a wardrobe of scarves is also good during the winter - particularly if you want to distract from the hips.

Long live leggings, I say. You are never too old or too young!

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 02-Oct-14 18:44:20

In your opinion ducks. hmm

Caroline Thu 02-Oct-14 18:41:36

In a word NO
PLEASE don't wear them unless you have nice legs and are under 40, slim fitting trousers look much nicer

cherryblossom Thu 02-Oct-14 18:30:28

ha, Ha Tanith I have legs like a straggly chicken and definately look like Max Wall. I have even perfected the walk it has my husband in tears but would not be seen out in public. Wear them under trousers for warmth only during the winter months.

janerowena Thu 02-Oct-14 17:47:27

I have started to buy cheap dresses on eBay, then chop them shorter to become long tunics. Long flared dresses aren't selling for much, but they are like skater dresses when cut up, very flared and hip-skimming and flattering. One of my friends last night (no spring chicken) was wearing such a pretty flared but stretchy mauve, yellow and black patterned dress, just below the knee but looked shorter when she walked, with black leggings and beautiful mauve suede flats. Yet if I had seen the dress in a shop window, I probably would have ignored it. I nearly took a photo but I thought I could be in huge trouble if someone recognised her!

I did put on a lot of weight last winter when I started wearing leggings as I didn't get the 'tight trouser waist' warning till it was too late. Bought some cheap ones from Asda to start off [in fact it started with me looking for clothes for the gym] and then moved on to M&S. My main problem was finding tunic tops to go with them [I found some in charity shops] but I've since discovered online places such as Adini. I then had to buy Ugg boots to balance myself [very pear shaped].

annodomini Thu 02-Oct-14 17:20:48

kitty, I have found that Sainsbury's sizes are quite big which is fine if I'm looking for a baggy shirt to wear over a tee shirt but not so good when trousers which fit me round the waist are baggy round the behind.

kittylester Thu 02-Oct-14 16:22:38

I came down to earth with a bump having bought leggings in a size 20/22 which were really baggy and top in a 22 which showed all my imperfections all too clearly! They were Sainsburys! Going to try Next next!!

goldengirl Thu 02-Oct-14 16:16:41

I love leggings / jeggings and I'm a pear. A long tunic covers all the sticky outy bits and they are soooo comfy. It's great to be able to bend more easily without any tightness around the waist. I've bought them from Boden (a bit pricey but don't bag) and Cotton Traders. I've got a Next voucher so might try there too.

glammanana Thu 02-Oct-14 16:05:49

Jings do you have a Next Store near where you live ? I have bought their legging for years and find them the best of all the pairs I have bought,I have about 12 pairs in different colours black & denim blue being the most favourite,I also buy the cut off ones for summer or gym they all wash well and don't go bobbley at all.

Ariadne Thu 02-Oct-14 15:50:32

Very tempted..... but at 5ft 3ins and decidedly curvy ( being euphemistic) I have resisted leggings etc so far. And I have fat knees. But nice ankles.

Might just pop up to Asda tomorrow and buy a cheap pair to try. Phoenix are you around? We could go to M&S outlet too! Would need to buy long tops as well. Ooh, quite exciting!

I also have a blue leg and as I'm going to Malta in 10 days the difficulty will be to keep blue leg concealed. Ok most of the time. We don't normally bother sitting around a pool but think that the occasional dip may be refreshing. I got a long skirt/dress semi sheer. There is side split at the left side but I'll swing it round so it splits at the right leg which, like kitty is 20 years younger than the left blue one.

Unless of course, I wore my leggings under it..... lol

Anne58 Wed 01-Oct-14 19:22:27

My body shape problems, plus the fact that it is becoming increasingly difficult to put on eye make-up with any accuracy is making me think that there are definitely some good points about the burkha. confused

Anya Wed 01-Oct-14 19:16:05

You couldn't make this up could you?! grin

I have had to completely renew my wardrobe for winter following a very satisfactory run on the Fast Diet. I always wear jeggings or slim leg trousers. I think looser trousers unless you are tall with legs up to your armpits are always unflattering. they make you look square and if you have short or plump legs they make you look squat.

This year, despite being a vocal M&S critic, I have bought several pairs of jeggings there

I confess, as I get cold feet very easily I wear tights of varying thicknesses and colours under my jeggings, depending on how cold it is.

GillT57, you could always order some online and try them on at home and return them if you do not like them.
