Where do you wish you could shop!?

Hi Gransnet!
I am a student at the London School of Fashion and I have been given the task of creating a new sub brand within a store to cater for woman age 65+ and I was wondering if you could help!
From what I understand, it is quite hard to find clothes that you like on the high street.
So my question is, which stores do you already shop in for clothes (including supermarkets)? and where do you wish had a range that targeted your age group?
All opinions would be very useful, thank you!

Really, really flattering things for tummies.

I like East too, but I think they are designed for women who are taller than me.

Just looked at Phase Eight. (Hadn't noticed them, the shop is in a mall where I don't often go.). Thanks Jane. A bit pricey for me for every day - but there's 20% off until Sunday!

EAST are among my favourite labels but I also enjoy "finding" labels I have never heard of in small independent shops - usually Scandinavian or German.

That's why I have started buying from Phase Eight, they always have a range of flattering tops with sleeves that are smart enough to be worn anywhere, but are really easy to look after. I just wish they were cheaper. I've started customising clothes, buying dresses on eBay and cutting them up to tunic length and tops with long sleeves and shortening them to around the elbow. Linen shrugs over sleeveless tops on really hot days.

I agree that fashion shouldn't be age specific - but I do wish more summer tops had longer sleeves - preferably bat wing to match the shape of my arms!

tegan I use various, I get them out the day before I want to wear them and air them. You can use covers instead, but I can't be bothered. I only do it once a year, in the late Spring when I don't tend to wear them as often. Keeping them clean stops moths but I don't like to wash them too often, in case they bobble more.

Elegran grin. Think I'll pass on that.

Galen Thu 13-Nov-14 18:17:56

Rome! Lovely clothes, but the prices?

Elegran Thu 13-Nov-14 18:04:42

So you don't need a tigerskin rug, ffinnochio?

ffinnochio Thu 13-Nov-14 17:44:51

Noted anno smile

In answer to the OP, after today's brouhaha, anywhere but France. Preferably UK.

Join the Woolovers appreciation society anno and janer! I love their cashmere and merino and in summer, their silk and cotton mix. Getting to be a bit of an addiction!!

annodomini Thu 13-Nov-14 17:15:41

Tegan, I keep all woollies, with or without cashmere, in ziplock bags to keep the moths out. I did find some moth holes in a rather nice cashmere scarf last year which taught me a lesson. Thanks janer for introducing me to Woolovers. I've been spreading the information round my nearest and dearest.

Tegan Thu 13-Nov-14 10:29:59

What do you mean by fly spray? Is it the one I've seen that specifically targets moths? I know it says it doesn't harm the fabric but I've been loathe to use it thus far.

janerowena Wed 12-Nov-14 18:42:51

It was me, I am the Woolovers addict. I keep all of my acquisitions in their own drawer with a packet of mothballs. Any wool I have hanging in the wardrobe is sprayed with fly killer once a year. It works for me. I had a lovely camel cashmere coat eaten by moths after only two years, and was not amused.

I bought the Woolovers because they do longer lengths (the longer v-neck and the long v-neck cardigan are my favourites, I wear them together like twinsets) so cover my bottom in the winter nicely, and because they aren't bulky so don't make me look fatter than I am! I only buy the merino wool or merino and cashmere, and sometimes have them as birthday presents. They are incredibly reasonably priced.

I would buy all of my clothes from Phase Eight, not M&S, I have decided. Their clothes are far more flattering on me.

Tegan Wed 12-Nov-14 10:04:41

I've just bought a couple of tunics from them. Only thing that worries me is, with them being cashmere I don't know if I should keep them away from the dreaded moths that invade my wardrobe. I find their pure wool jumpers a bit itchy though. They say delivery will be several days but my order seems to arrive almost straight away.

annodomini Wed 12-Nov-14 09:33:41

I took advice from a poster here some time ago and bought a tunic from Woolovers. Very satisfied with that purchase, I bought several other items and have been equally pleased. I like their variety of colours and their fibre combinations (merino/cashmere, cotton/cashmere, cotton/silk). The prices are also very competitive. So far, I have no complaints. So thanks to whoever first mentioned the company on Gransnet.

Heading for John Lewis today - got a good book, will park myself in their cafe with endless coffee whilst Mrs. P and daughter shop, could cost me on the credit card, but think of the brownie points I could earn. (and I will need to build up the brownie points for my next model project)

Overthehill, I`m dressed almost entirely by Bonmarche, with just a few exceptions, I love their clothes, with the occasional gripe that some dresses and skirts are way too long, we`re not all beanpoles, I`m only a short, fat 5`1"!

Deedaa Sat 08-Nov-14 17:11:33

If I can find anything I like I buy in the sales at M&S ( and I get staff discount as well grin ) and I buy odds and ends in Sainsbury's when they're having one of their 25% off days. My best buy recently has been a lovely Clements Ribeiro coat that I got in TK Maxx for £33. Cheap??? Moi???

NanKate Sat 08-Nov-14 17:01:25

I like Tigiwear which I buy online or at the local Garden Centre. All their clothes are cotton or stretch jersey in lovely colours and patterns.

I also like the Edinburgh Wool Shop now known as EWM's cord trousers, I have them in 3 different colours.

Some people shop in the more expensive shops but if you read in detail you will find that most of us are High Street/ Supermarket purchasers. A lot of my clothes come from Sainsbury's, Next and M&S (this winter).

Lona My current favourite and most useful cardi is a little thin black cotton one with elbow length sleeves, looks good over a vest with jeans or over a dress and cost £10 from Tesco.

hildajenniJ Sat 08-Nov-14 09:45:09

A couple of years ago I bought a fabulous grey suede and faux fur coat by Dennis Basso from QVC. It's my absolute favourite, but unfortunately not waterproof.
I got a rather nice long cardigan from Tesco yesterday, pale grey and fluffy.

Lona Sat 08-Nov-14 09:01:38

I've stopped buying expensive stuff because I don't go anywhere special to wear it.
I do love to 'cherry pick' though from Matalan,Tesco,Sainsbury, River Island,H&M etc.
They have some great clothes in amongst the basic stuff. And I do love a bargain!

Ana Fri 07-Nov-14 23:27:54

I really like 'viscose type stuff' and don't find it sweaty or nasty at all! grin

I'm not a huge fan of Bon Marché, being tall and thin, but they have some lovely warm jumpers in this year and I've bought three.
