I really like Benefit's Porefessional although I also found a very good primer in Aldi for a fraction of the price.

I use all kinds of primers and when I remember, they are fab. Sometimes it is just such a phaff!!! However, if you use the mineral powder kind of foundation, it makes a huge difference. Just wish I could remember to use the primer!!

What a lot of time and money I've saved by just using water!

Never been one for make up but now i,m getting a bit onld in the tooth for make up at 57 not sure what to wear or how to do it ( sad )

I felt my make up routine had become a bit stale, using the same colours and brands for years and it would be nice to try something new, so together with a girlfriend we had a " make up lesson" at Shu Uemura, which is a Japanese (?) company with concessions in some big department stores, this one was at Liberty's. I think we paid £25 each, but this was knocked off the price of anything we bought. It was such fun, we had their international make up artist there, a very gorgeous camp man , who asked me what colours I usually wore, and then said he would try something completely different. Of course I ended up loving a lot of the products, wasn't sure about the black eyeliner or eyelash curling(!) but spent far more than £25 on new make up, a lot of which has lasted so well I am still using it even though this was a couple of years ago. I am sure lots of other brands in department stores do similar things, it's definitely worth it for a fun afternoon out and it made me update my make up bag!

For the last couple of years I've used Garnier roll on concealer for eyes. (Not to conceal my eyes, but drak circles etc) it makes a great primer for eye shadow and helps with the wrinkles! X

Or even 'dark circles' !! X

apricot putting something on your face is a question of comfort as well as appearance - my face would feel really dry and uncomfortable if I didn't put some sort of moisturiser on. You don't have to spend a fortune either.

mosey pluck up your courage and book a make up lesson somewhere. I'm thinking of doing that myself, as I think my colouring has changed over the last few years.

Has anyone else noticed that their eyes have gone paler? I asked my optician and he said it was just old age, though slightly more tactfully. It still worries me a bit though.

If choosing one, serum or primer, which is best to make skin look/feel better, or do they do different things? Have been using Boots #7 serum for a few week but can't really see any difference; looking for something to fade age spots/even skin tone a bit.

You need something with perhaps a bit of hyaluronic acid in it, then. Fruit acids, alpha hydroxy, glycolic, salicylic, they all take the dead cells away and help the skin cell turnover to speed up if used regularly with lots of exfoliating. Roc is quite good. I've tried a few, it does take time. Also you shouldn't let the sun get to your skin while you are using them, so I only do it in the winter. I wouldn't say I am winning, but I am holding it back a bit.

Apparently Helen Mirren is the new face of L'Oreal and she uses a primer. She looks lovely (good bone structure, nice eyes) but as for her skin - it looks no more nor less wrinkly than mine and she is the same age as me. Oh OK, I'll be truthful - I'm sure she is a bit more wrinkly than me but she is better-looking! I have never heard of primers until I saw a thread on here the other day.

I agree that Helen Mirren looks lovely but I wish she had chosen to promote a cruelty free cosmetics brand rather than L'Oreal which still tests on animals

She has also had cosmetic surgery of some kind, so it's a bit rich to pretend it's all down to skin care or makeup.

If Helen Mirren hasn"t had work done I will eat my hat, same for Lulu, it is NOT POSSIBLE for women of their age to look like they do without surigal help.

Obviously Lulu has had something done (despite her protestations to the contrary!).
Helen Mirren has probably had her eyes done (I would like mine done but am too scared - and too broke).

I meet with a few neighbours for coffee once a month. They are all in their mid sixties, like me.

None of us wears foundation, let alone primer and we all look OK. I find foundation makes me look worse rather than better, it sort of kills any natural look to my skin and I've tried plenty.

I just use powder, touch éclat round the eyes and a bit of blusher, along with eye makeup and lipstick.

I wear the full slap, but not in a showy way. Without makeup I look about 80 with makeup I look like my own age 68. I would never leave the house without my camouflage.

I asked the Clinique consultant at Debenhams if she had time to give me a facial using a primer. There was no cost, I really enjoyed the experience and
the opportunity to try new products and colours, a bit surprised to discover that there was a primer for eyelashes but I do think my makeup lasted longer.

Don't use anything except a little lipstick and sometimes powder. My mother always used Ponds cold cream. As a family we are lucky to have good skin and not too many wrinkles. My daughter had to carry her driving license well into her late 20's to get a drink!

My best friend bought me a jar of Nivea Primer. I absolutely love it. I blob a bit on each cheek and then blob a bit of moisturiser on top and rub it in. I want to buy all my friends some for Christmas.

I have a little tiny pot which came 'free' (who's kidding whom?) when I bought a Clarins product and have yet to use it. I thought I ought to try it out on a day when I'm not going anywhere in case it causes a reaction.

I did get some other 'free products' from Clarins - should have bought the blusher as I went very pale when I saw the bill!
