Buying jeans.....

It seems that the best way to ensure jeans/jeggings fit is to buy a size smaller, because denim 'relaxes'.
Is this really so, or do you end up unable to sit down, breathe or even move?
I'm fed up with jeans stretching when I'm not shrinking!
Any advice?

I had stopped buying from M&S as their jeans got so big, but I saw a turquoise pair that I liked so bought them.I have worn them twice, and the waist now needs a belt, however I like the material and the colour, so just wear them with a belt.Shouldn't have to though!

Last pair of jeans I bought were from Sainsbury's. The short size fit me perfectly ( I'm only little). I bought black ones, and just go back for some proper denims. I cannot recommend them highly enough.

Before you think about buying skinny jeans, read this

If you purchase cotton jeans they will tighten up on washing but relax after wearing.

I buy stretch denim straight leg/slim leg they are comfortable to wear sitting bending and walking always go back into shape.
I do think though you need to buy a decent quality fabric though.
My last two prs were from Next, bought them over three years ago and still fit as good as new.

I do hate jeans which are baggy on the legs and bottom, I like clean lines and these suit me perfectly.

I tried to buy a pr yesterday in black but the colour doesn't seem to be popular at the moment so not much of a selection.

I always buy the same trousers, CraggHoppers. Same size every time, no problem, until now. Tried on a pair exactly the same style and size as I was wearing, they were an inch smaller, had I bought them on line, I would have had to return them.

But bear in mind that they will probably shrink a bit shorter the first time they are washed, so either allow for that or wash them before getting them taken up.

Buy several pairs of jeans/trousers that you like and then take them to somebody locally to have them taken up. it won't cost much.

I don't have a problem with fit, but I do have a problem with leg length - I have shrunk and now need a 25" inside leg. Any ideas? And NO, I am no seamstress! smile

I went to GAP outlet store and found a pair of jeans that fitted for the amazing price of £5.99. I'm not fond of buying jeans and won't buy if they don't fit - all the main stores jeans don't fit very well so I end up hunting everywhere. I may even go back tomorrow and see if I can get another pair - Uniglo sounds good too.

Don't look then, feetle.

I am sick of looking at people in blue denim...

Lona Sat 11-Apr-15 18:52:30

Thanks coolgran I'll bear that in mind! smile

Uniqlo have the best jeans, sizes go up in 1 inch, so you can get 29, 30, 31 etc. super stretch so comfortable, but they do,all sorts of shapes and sizes. Online and are easy to return etc,

Lona M & Co can be bought on line, their service and returns is excellent. I have only just discovered them on line.
And then found that there is a store 12 miles distant.
It's still convenient to use the on line - Cheaper than petrol smile

GAP has a flare style, Baubles. I'm going to get a pair from them or which ever chain store has the best fit & price. let us know if you find a good pair.

Yes, I think so too. The ones with 2% are ok, but 5% is too much.

rosesarered Fri 20-Mar-15 22:14:51

Absent is correct, it's the fault of denim jeans all now having a percentage of elastane in them, so that they start out fitting properly and over time get too big. I don't buy them nowadays for this reason.M&S are the worst offenders.

janerowena Fri 20-Mar-15 11:32:48

I have some roma cut M&S that are a very thick cotton and I love them, they fit me perfectly. The denim ones however, don't. Which is rather odd.

My very favourites are BHS, the second favourite are Next. The far-too-stretchy Phase Eight ones that cost twice as much have been relegated to the gardening clothes box.

I buy Levis. They do different waist shapes, slight curve, demi curve etc which at first I thought was a load of rubbish but the staff in the shops are very helpful and mine really fit well. The last pair cost about £70 and are still going strong about 8 years later.

Teetime Fri 20-Mar-15 09:32:41

£120!!! not £1120 although I wouldn't put that past some of them.grin

Teetime Fri 20-Mar-15 09:31:13

My best experience of buying jeans has been at GAP - the assistant took endless trouble to get me properly fitted - the only thing is they are quite long and I had to take them up but wonderful quality. £50 I know but all my golf lady friends where the £1120 NJYD's and I'm not doing that - they don't look any different to M & S to me and at least the Gap ones have really good quality dark blue denim.

Lona Fri 20-Mar-15 08:15:54

I used to wear those M&S jeans but now I have M & Co boot cuts and they are great! Unfortunately our shop has just closed down, but I managed to buy a couple of pairs at half price.
Sainsburys jeans are ok too.
