In a mood as having my toenails painted for summer this afternoon. Will have to take a codeine to stop feet tingling and think of dull things like politics and finance to stop laughing at the tickling. I am all right if she takes my foot in a firm hand and knows how to use clippers and files, but am sitting here now wondering if she had a drink at lunchtime or a row with her boyfriend or, worse, is timid. I must get a grip, though, and be philosophical as one always suffers for beauty and think how pretty my toes will be sandalled for summer.

I'm going to have my first pedicure at the local beauty college- they only charge a few pounds so I'm trying a facial with them as well tomorrow.

Spray tan - I thought the paper knickers were just for modesty blush

I've had my toe nails professionally painted in the past and they are brilliant, last for ages. However, now I have had my hip replaced I am hoping I can go back to doing it myself eventually. smile

I can manage my own manicures, but bending to the toes is getting harder and a pedicure is a great treat, especially when it's time to put on the sandals. I like a very dark polish, perhaps this summer it will be a dark purple - damson or aubergine. Wish I could afford a foot massage every week!

Ana. The paper knickers remind me of hospital- white coat phobia.I believe they are needed to stop the paint leaking into orifices. Pompa - you are so right, your bands of cheeky cloth would make me look like a hot-crossbun.

I have used sun beds years ago but nothing happened!! DH was a H & S expert (yes groan away) and is very opposed to sun beds so I wouldn't do that now also people with Lupus are meant to avoid sun beds and sun. I like to look a bit glowy though so have had one fake tan in a salon. its so smelly and you have to sleep in it so it makes the sheets brown and you feel all itchy all night. Now I use Clarins fake tan to get my legs and arms started and everything else more or less stays covered up.

If you wore some of those micro bikinis you would look like a noughts&crosses board.

I have chunky legs and worse ankles. My legs look like pork sausages. Not things I want on show, so dresses, skirts and shorts are out for me sad

I do wear linen trousers in summer - that's my go-to uniform (sorry about the cliche!)
Until a few years ago I'd never dream of having a pedicure. I thought all that was for airheads (or airfeet). Then, while I was in the grip of a bad bout of depression, a friend suggested we go and have our feet done and I agreed. I was delighted. My legs were still hideous but suddenly my feet were soft and pretty-looking. We've gone a few times since and I'm long overdue for another. I rather like a moody, dark red colour myself - possibly similar to Rouge Noir, but what do I know? wink

No need to shave legs - my leg hair has steadily disappeared over the years, almost to nothing.
I wish my fat legs would do the same..... grin

A nice ruby red on toe nails last night.
Linen trousers and fit flops today.

A visit to the chiropodist first, then did my own pedicure.

Why does wearing paper knickers freak you, jo1book?

(I'd be far more freaked by wearing a porno bikini bottom!)

jo1book Tue 14-Apr-15 22:46:15

I only want my legs down from my knees to be tanned, but they tell me you have to have the whole leg done. It's the wearing of the paper knickers that freaks me. Perhaps I should get one of Pompa's porno style bikinis to wear,

NotTooOld Tue 14-Apr-15 22:37:15

How did that happen? I only pressed the button once, honest!

I've never had one but I think sprays can look rather good. The manufacturers seem to have overcome the stripey look. Might be a good idea if you are going to some sort of posh do, or don't want to look too white on a Spanish beach.

One of my young neighbours is sprayed. She has black hair and would be marvellous as pocohontas.

A friend of mine had a spray tan a couple of years ago and she ended up looking very orange, really put me off doing that

pompa Tue 14-Apr-15 22:20:52

I remember heading off for a meeting in London with my lady boss early one morning. I had to go via a M&S to get some black tights because she had attempted a DIY spray tan and her legs were some very strange colours - note I say colours, rather stripey.

jo1book Tue 14-Apr-15 21:59:20

Has anyone had a fake bake? You know, a spray job.

annodomini Tue 14-Apr-15 21:39:34

yogagran, I have never used a sunbed - especially in the ten years since I had a melanoma removed. There are various creams, lotions and potions that will give you a tanned look without any danger of skin cancer. But be careful! When my DS got married, I put a self-tanning product on my legs. However, I'd failed to exfoliate and my heels turned very dark brown. Before the big day, I had to scrub very hard with everything I could think of, short of Brillo Pads and did succeed in getting my heels to match the rest of me.

NotTooOld Tue 14-Apr-15 21:35:52

I did once, yogagran, but these days warnings are issued against them - skin cancer and so on. Stay interestingly pale.

yogagran Tue 14-Apr-15 21:29:13

Have any of you used a sunbed? I've never used one and always thought that they were unnecessary and a danger to your skin, but seeing my pale, pasty arms today I'm wondering if it might be worth a try.

NotTooOld Tue 14-Apr-15 21:26:08

Mine brings a box of about three dozen colours and you can choose. Is brilliant!

It's alright for you lot but I'm stuck with wearing surgical stockings until next Monday. Can't wait to get them off but I'll need the body scrub and a razor before I can dig out the shorts.

jo1book Tue 14-Apr-15 20:35:59

She puts your foot on her lap, so you would kick her in the chops!

Galen Tue 14-Apr-15 20:33:02

Had a pedicure and manicure last week. Paraffin wax to ankles and feet was soooooo nice.
I can't reach my feet and they and the ankles are very painful all the time.
